Also the point about DJs hearing the count is spot on. The DJ curse is that you can’t enjoy music as easily as others in clubs if not mixed properly or if the song doesn’t track well when your mixing it. Beat matching makes you hear things that none of the crowd ever will. anything dropping out of beat ruins the song and even the set depending how bad. So many modern DJs today don’t have the same problems and ultimately love due to using sync. Turntables will always be the great equaliser and cultivated love for music as Clark is describing, now days it’s easy to do without the love of leaning for years with no progress at times for long periods which only love can get you past. Finally, not going through the process he’s describing leaves you ill equipped to overcome problems which inevitably happen when djing to a lot of people. What an absolute legend Clark is and what a great perspective to listen to, undeniably the game would not even look the same without this man’s influence.

It makes you say to yourself.. “Come on.. I can do better than that” 😂 Everybody is using technology to bypass what makes the art really fun. I use a MPC Live 2 stand alone. I still chop by ear and everything I do falls on the 2,4,8. Reason being is Natural for Black to do everything off the “1 2, 1 2,” in hip hop. That’s makes my transitions fall on time

Clark Kent is definitely a legend. I remember when he came to Club Plastic's in Atlanta and 91, blew the spot and changed the landscape for DJing from that point. He was the first cat to slam records and keep the crowd on the edge with excitement. I'm so glad that he brought up Legends Like Larry levan, because a lot of people don't understand how connected the DJ culture is in different styles of music particularly during the 70s era when Disco, Hip Hop, salsa, and Underground hardcore Rock, were all emerging. All of these forms have a lot to do with hip hop and it's Global popularity now. I beg to differ with Clark's mc/ rapper Theory, but that's a whole different discussion. Salute to him.✌🏿

My favorite part of this entire interview is how important Clark made it known to continue the education of hip hop. To become a 5 percenter you just know your 120 lessons you must pass your student enrollment etc. There are guidelines and boundaries that take place in order to ensure the quality of the individual being welcomed. We just find a way to create something for hip hop that way. The new generation has the responsibility on their shoulders to educate themselves and others as well as protect the integrity of the culture. The older generation has to find a way to teach them.

bruvh... my last comment on this... Dj Clark Kent Just taught us a dj formula... and he mentioned blending before cutting and scratching... the blend of records was real with disco, funk... now the break beat mix back to back was another level.. too fresh ... Salute .. jewels on this .. like amazon prime like a cryptocurrency block chain owning the block

Credit to you all, massive fan of the podcast and fairly new to it and after this episode I’ve realise what it is. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen so many interesting people in a room having a conversation which breaths and each person offering interesting looks and opinions whilst always staying focused on the guest not trampling on the conversation or story. I’m from the UK and white which shouldn’t need saying but I’m saying it because it’s worth recognising the inspiration and lessons your giving to all different demographics where other shows sometimes make me feel like I shouldn’t be listening even tho hip hop is my favourite music and I most relate to growing up. Thanks for the great content, keep it coming and love from over the pond 👊
