Stumbled upon this video while looking for tips on being a first time motorcycle tech. Loved your honesty, and your humility. I'm 24, and I've done a ton of hands on jobs, building equipment for airplanes, submarines, other electronic components, I was an aluminum mig welder, and I went to school for motorcycle technology and received a cert. For it. I'm a certified motorcycle tech... Cool. But the way you're talking about it shows shop experience, which I lack. I'm hoping to hear good news from an interview I had for a dealership today. I enjoyed hearing about your experiences. Keep it up man. You earned my sub. 🤙🤙🤙

I really am happy I found your videos and congratulations! It took me till now at 26 to realize what I really want to do. I used to ride a harley 05 sportster and loved riding. Used to do small work on my bike not knowing shit before but taking the time to research an figure it out. Two months ago had a fallout with life an my living situation and had to start all over again an really reconsider what I want to do, what drives me an pulls me out of my dark places, and I just miss working an riding on my old bike. I started to go looking at bike or looking at bikes nearby that need small handywork done. And I realize I want to work on bikes. I'm starting to look now around southwestern CT for shops in need of some general help or possibly an apprentice.

Congrats on the new gig!! I'm sure you'll be successful and much happier now. I've often thought about what I'll do to keep myself busy when I retire in a couple years and have considered doing something motorcycle related. Maybe just buying old bikes and getting them back on the road. My son, who is 2 years younger than you just started a motorcycle repair certification program this week. Part is online and part is in class. Best of luck to you and I look forward to more videos.

Idk how I came across this a year after you posted haha. I'm in the same boat of being a novice tech getting into this at 28. When you said MI, it caught me off guard being that I work at a dealership in Warren. Even with the off days, this industry is worth it. 🤙

How would one do this if no one in the area is looking for a apprentice? I am willing to learn. for free, outside of my regular 9-10 hour job if someone would be willing to teach me. I really want to be a motorcycle technician :(

Cozy up to your mechanic. Bring beer with you when you pick up your stuff. Show the interest. It can take time. Don’t give up on that.
