I love the way they put together a capsule wardrobe with their patterns every month. Their podcast is also good!

Thanks for the review. I just joined yesterday at the premium level, month to month, to see if I liked their patterns. It’s good to know that I will definitely need to muslin. The support/community was the draw for me.

I have to agree with the other comments. I won’t be renewing my seamwork membership. I have been disappointed with the patterns and also struggling with sizing.

I just joined at the monthly basis as their “styling” isn’t mine, BUT, being a “rusty” sewist, back to it, after MANY stagnant years, the tutorials, articles, & podcasts, all are helping me re-sharpen my skills. Sure, I’m taking advantage of a few patterns (the wrap skirt, another skirt I’ll modify to a mini-skirt, the bo-top… which I’ll modify to hopefully look like an early DVF top in viscose, & which I’ll try in a chiffon w/ possible a bit of sequins embroidered- I’ve DKNY cami that’s similar-I’ll try emulating, sans arm cuffs-) In general, if one looks at the Instagram site, TONS of modifications can be found- gets one’s imagination going. I totally agree about the instructions-I’m also long-waisted, an A cup, sz 4/6, 5-9”, so muslins on ‘complicated patterns’ will be required (or measuring 3X/chking pattern pieces!), or, speaking w/ others-seeing others’ troubleshooting. You make some great points-esp for accomplished sewists. But if one IS an accomplished sewists, I’d guess one could troubleshoot their shortcomings pretty easily, & enjoy the community/fabric discounts/overall inspo/support. Nice job. Will subscribe to you-see/learn what else you hv to share 👍🏽🌝🌻🧵

I like Seamworks and try to make one of the new monthly patterns. I have the Unlimited plan. I do struggle with sizing. I use my measurement to pick a pattern size but usually end up sizing down 2 sizes. I find the seamworks patterns a good jumping off place for creating.

I have the same problem with their patterns! It NEVER fits. I always have to go down several sizes.

Seamwork is good for beginning sewists because the patterns are not very detailed and are generally loose fitting. But, if you are not a 5’8” C cup, you probably will need to make a muslin first to make all the necessary pattern alterations to get a good final result. In my experience, these muslin alterations for my 5’ pear shape required a lot of online research and learning beyond what Seamwork offered. That’s not a bad thing though. It’s just something to be aware of.

I have found very poor sizing in Seamwork patterns. I find I get better fitting from the Big 4. I am 4'10" and 112 pounds!! No WAY is a pattern designed for big and bold will fit me.

I canceled my seamwork acct last year. I am so disappointed in their patterns. They are drafted sooo big and shapeless. I find so many of their patterns unflattering.

I hve to agree with you. I am 4'10" and I weigh 112. It's the big problem I have. But, I still love the community. I learned using the muslin and pattern drafting. I will turn you on to a great KZread sewist: Evelyn Wood. Her monthly charge for her actual classes( although her videos are.so.precise) is 19.99/month. I love her. also: Thoughtful Creativity. For about 5 bucks a month you can download templates and instructions. But the best? Pattern blocking!!!!

I agree, I’m small also, their patterns are waaaaay too big. I know that pattern companies can’t cater for all. So, sea work is mostly for heavier people.

hi i just joined seamwork directly from your link when i went to pay with credit card for the unlimited it came up saying it was billing me a full 180.00 usd i ended up doing the preimum instead as it came up 9.00 per month billing not sure why there was no 50% off the unlimited i do like the patterns some of them have not ever did a pdf full size pattern before so that maybe a challenge but considering patterns here cost sometimes over 18.00 per pattern seemed like a good deal for me but did want the unlimited membership

Hi Rhose. They are pdf downloadable patterns that you need to either print off or project onto your fabric to cut. I use SewYYC for large scale printing here in Canada (I have a video on that as well). If you're outside of Canada, I've heard good things about pdf plotting. Some independent fabric and pattern shops are starting to offer the service as well.

I am leaning towards not renewing my subscription either. The staff is nice and supportive but the styles are too bland and the fit isn't great for me. Many of the classes are for beginners and for the most part not that knowledge intensive if you have sewing experience.

I like their community, but I find all their post-Colette patterns really boring. The sizing is all over the place, I made the Paxton for my boyfriend and the Astoria for myself and his Paxton was huge and I almost gave away my Astoria because it came out so small. I may have also been part of the reason the Sydney got pulled. The sizing on that was so, so, so off, like I took 3” from center front and back of the smallest size and it was still massive, like an XL, so I put them on blast in the tag and it disappeared from the site.

  • @seasonallyproductive

Yes, the sizing is frustrating! I think it may be getting a bit better, but I do like to measure the pattern pieces before cutting my fabric

I did not renew my membership once it expired. I even took care to block auto-renew option for my credit card because once I missed it and it took full amount from my card without any notice. I did not like this because the amount was much higher then in previous year. Main reason for unsubscribing was too much hype with BLM matters and donations Seamwork made at that time. I am not racist in any way,. I do not take people down because of their skin color but I also do not want to prioritize anyone based on color. And I definitely am not going to support with my money political parties. If I pay for pattern, I pay only for pattern, not for politics. All this madness is over now (till next elections in USA of forever) but I do not renew my subscription anymore because I live in Europe and do not want to be involved in US politics.

@@shimmerine1 yes, but just a few while I have more then 74 patterns. Sounds terrible, right? The fit is OK after adjustments but I never fit right from envelope so it is normal for me to make adjustments.

That's so sad they gave you over 2 years and you are encouraging others to not subscribe. Plus you obviously made tons of their patterns. I think your business would do better if you were a supportive community business person. Also, I just joined and plan to cutomize them with my measurements while making them more avant guard and fashionable. Nothing is limiting a person from using his or her own creativity. 🤔🙄

I believe in honest and transparent feedback. I would never promote a business without telling my true feelings. People have still purchased through my link after watching this video and appreciated the complete review. I 100% support other businesses, especially women-owned, but I'm also a supporter of keeping everyone accountable and getting away from the "buy buy buy" mentality that is so prevalent on KZread, Instagram, etc. This was my personal experience and what I will be doing going forward. Viewers are welcome to take that as they wish. Just like I made a challenge for myself to not purchase fabrics or patterns for the year. That doesn't mean I don't support fabric and pattern shops.
