My Entire Biomedical Engineering Degree in 16 Minutes

I graduated from Brown University with a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering last month. Given that a portion of my viewers has expressed interest in Biomedical Engineering (BME), I thought that I would make a video talking about the classes that I took and the experiences that I had.

When you mention Dynamics and Vibration was an amazing unit, with an amazing Coordinator, for sure I had to agree with you, haha. You may wonder what makes me say this, and that is because I'm using your lecture notes to study for my finals this semester, even though I am in Australia, haha. It was a random online search, out of frustration, and I found the gold! I wish my tutors were as dedicated :(

Hi, just want to clarify some point. Cell biology is enough for tissue engineering ? Because I have surfed in the internet and saw only your major for it. Maybe you know something about this topic ? Maybe I should choose BME as major too.

Hey spring 2024 , I will start my journey in biomedical engineering, I graduated in electrical engineering, I just have 6 month time to improve my skills before entering the university, I have already learned Python, Machine learning algorithms (they are in process) ,and I just started to learn image processing techniques What is your suggestion being a top Student in this field???

I don’t get.how can we continue to med school with With an engineering degree??My dream was getting into med school but that didn’t happen and now iam a BME 1year student cuz there was no other option.I hate it here hate math and physics and everything…while doing some researches I saw your video and that comment ..Can we really become doctors after graduating ?and if yes then why doesn’t pp get into.engineering since it’s easier than medicine and continue rather than getting directly???

BME would be helpful for gaining experience in medical physics or devices, especially if you wanted to do research that was more engineering-focused. That being said, I'm sure that there are other routes to becoming a radiologist that don't require BME

BME is the best degree if you want to go to medical school. BME is really taking some of the intro classes to electrical engineering and mechanical engineering, some courses from biology, chemistry, physics and math beyond the science general education requirements, and then in your junior year, you choose a track to specialize in (like biomechanics, *bioimaging* (for you), tissue engineering, etc.), and your senior year will include a project/research and some electives specific to your BME track. it's wonderful training for med school. i would strongly advise against doing a BME major if you do not want to be a doctor, tho. it is much better to major in mechanical engineering or electrical engineering, then do a master's in biomedical engineering, if your end goal is to work as a biomedical engineer.

@shav yes! if you are UNSURE about going to medical school, then it's better to major in mechanical engineering. if you are, however, 100% SURE that you want to go to medical school, then do the biomedical.

so i am in high school and I am in dilemma between choosing microbiology or BME as my major. i am siding mostly with BME but my only concern is that biological aspect is not given as much importance as math and physics .So my question is will a person like me who is mostly interest in biology and wants to do something innovative in this field enjoy this course or regret it? please reply thank you

my question to you would be how much do you like math and physics? BME is very diverse (e.g. drug delivery, medical devices, stem cell engineering, etc.) and there is opportunity to pursue biological applications but many of the courses I had to take were heavily engineering-focused.

@@leonzhaoo omg firstly thank you for replying to me .And to answer your question honestly I don't like maths and I do not like physics as much as bio or chem.So I think microbiology would be a great fit .Your videos helped me clear this up tysm I expected BME to be different.

Junior in BME here. I haven’t learned much on biology. It’s been a LOT of engineering classes. Personally I like it so far, you just have to stick it out until you get to the good stuff.

does brown give a chance to move ahead on classes to get to inorganic chemistry with ap scores or is it up to you to take prereqs/more intro courses? for the plme program you would still have to do premed classes anyways right?

@Ronald S I don't get why so many people say that it is hard to find a job after BME. You can work as a Software engineer, data Analyst, IT technician in hospitals,Bioinformation scientist and sooo much more, I don't know the names in English but you can basically do anything that information and computer engineering students can do and in addition work specifically in the medical field which involves very exciting and cool jobs. All of my friends who graduated from university with BME bachlor degree got a job immediately without any problems
