MY ENTIRE BALDING JOURNEY AGE 16 - 21

Welcome to The Baldcafe Podcast.
In this Episode we welcome Agostino.
Agostino first noticed that he was going bald back in High school. He took to wearing headbands to hide his receding hairline but when his hair started to go thin on top he needed a new strategy. The thinning at 19 brought on some strong hat game. He would even wear hats around his own home...all the time.
Eventually enough was enough and with the help of a good friend he entered the world of the confident bald man. Here he is sharing his entire story in an effort to help any other kings out the struggling to deal with their own balding and who are looking for a way out and on to better things. Thank you Agostino. Thank you for watching.

I think it’s the vibes man. I wish I could say it differently somehow but let’s be honest. Guys being honest About how they overcame such insecurities by essentially just recognizing they have so much more to do and give is some feel good shiiiii! Feeling so good they just want to come on and share in order to help their fellow man. I love to see it every time. Will never ever tire of it.

Couldn’t have said it better. I’ve tried watching some of the hair transplant guys and they just aren’t NEARLY as inspiring. To each his own, but I just think that excepting yourself for who you are, facing your insecurities head on, and recognizing there is so much more to you than your hair is a much healthier route to go. Your doing the lords work Harry. Cheers mate

Hair transplant aren't it tbh you won't have a good hairline also you'd star to bald again after hair transplant you'd need new one and not just that it just the stress man stressing over your hair and fixing ur hair in the morning and all that so embracing the baldness and shaving it off is way better and it removes the stress and you'd become free

It's so funny. We're ALL going through (or have gone through) the EXACT same steps/phases. At this point, they can add these 6 steps to the medical literature under MPB: -Denial (is it my thyroid, is it my diet, is it stress, is it lifting weights) -Constant checking (photos, videos, mirrors) -Researching a "solution" (googling minoxidil, finasteride, dermarolling, lasers, transplants, etc.) -Cover up (comb over, hats, different weird hairstyles etc.) (this step wastes THE most amount of time. Sometimes decades. Sadly) -Wake up call (brutal comments from friends and family) -Acceptance (BaldCafe) and relief.

Don't give up on the facial hair bro, at 20 i could grow peach fuzz on my chin, then at 20-smth i noticed that i grew pretty decent side-burns seemingly over night, now i'm 26, my chin grows a good goatee, i have my sideburns (if those are any indication to the eventual thickness of my beard i think i'll be okay) and FINALLY this year my cheeks are starting to sprout hair, and my moustache seems thicker by the week, i might actually eventually grow something i can leave on my face in the moustache area :D. I have a friend who was baby-faced until 25, then at 25 he started going bald, he's now 36-7 and he can basically grow a full good beard. Point being, your beard will get better through your twenties and thirties, some people say they grow new hair in their 40s and 50s even. Until my full beard grows in i'll just rock my goatee and burns.

If you see this look into minoxbeards. You can likely grow a beard. I started recently and am already seeing beard gains. A study showed you can double hair density with minoxidil + microneedling vs just minoxidil. This is good advice I promise.

Been watching the channel since it started. Like many of the guys, I spent too many wasted hours worrying about it slowly thinning. I could style it so it wasn't noticeable, but avoided rain, swimming, wind and even started to become reclusive and depressed. I was scared how I'd look, how friends and family would react. Last week I had a binge of the channel. Harry and his guests gave me the push I needed to give it a go. I got some Wal clippers, put on a no2 and buzzed it off. Then went to no1. The relief is hard to explain, I'm 54, and looked in the mirror and cried.. the relief of not having to worry about direct overhead lights, anti-balding products, laser caps, special shampoos, researching HTs, the Fin gave me temp ED whilst I tried it.. it was over. I went out bravely and faced the world. No one seemed to notice, no one mentioned it! All that worry for nothing. First night out a girl came over to me in the pub and chatted me up! Thanks Harry for the channel, the work you do, how you listen to the guys you have on and take them through the journey. I can't describe how good I'm feeling about myself after at least 10+ self-conscious miserable years! Cheers.

Tried to even do procedures such as prp or prb (I forgot the right one) nothing worked. I decided to just stick to being bald and honestly it’s probably one of my best decisions being able to own it and just take that step of letting go of your hair can be so positive for yourself and give you the confidence you need to do the things you’ve always wanted. Bald and proud and massive respect to all the brothers out there, you’re not alone we can own it!

I just love he says "I would even wear it in the house", meanwhile, cut to a picture of him posing with what is probably his dad, clearly with plenty of thinning hair XD can't outrun genetics! But it definitely is a mourning process, for a lot of guys. It's hard to wrap around the notion that losing your hair is "normal", it's usually associated with sicknesses like cancer and chemotherapy...not just getting older.

Nice Mo, that suits him. I shaved all my hair off around COVID time and rocked that for a couple years, but stopped bothering to shave and now I have fairly long to medium length hair, and turns out my hair loss isn’t that bad, just some thinning a bit in the horse shoe areas and the back but it’s not so bad so I just rock it. Sometimes I forget how self conscious I was years ago, some people forget I shaved my head and was “bald” ever since I started taking oral finasteride. It at least gave me the confidence to stop taking heaps of supplements and doing heaps of shit to keep my hair, and for that reason I do recommend trying to grow it back and just let the hair grow.

I'm 22 and I lost a lot of my hair this year. At first it felt really weird and I didn't really notice the hairfall until someone pointed out. When I noticed it, I started to feel a lot insecure and very self conscious. Now I have two big semi circles in my temple area. If it gets any bigger I will shave my head. Thank you for the confidence.

Looking back on my life now, I think of balding as the least thing I need to worry about. I now just accept it and wouldn't worry if I lost every hair follicle on my body. But we are of course all different and have different feelings about things. Admittedly, balding at 16 is rough compared to balding when above 30s and beyond.

  • @Nordicroo

@@ancientwonder7812 I think at your age (just my opinion), maybe going for a 1 or a zero hair cut might suit best. If you're feeling more adventurous you could start rocking a shaved head. I do both, depending on how I feel at the time. It seems to me that for most guys either seems to work well. In the end, it has to be a personal choice. Remember, at 16, you might get more comments from people being shaved than having a crewcut. I'm now in my sixties so don't care about people's opinions. I will even joke about it myself. Beat them with better humour and they become numb and harmless. And you become bullet proof. Stay strong and good luck with whatever you choose!

@@ancientwonder7812 I started thining at 16 too, this is what worked for me, no hats or caps or anything of the type on my head (only helmets when I ride bikes and as soon as I finish i take it off), no gels or sprays either or any chemical whatsoever, shower everyday no exceptions, hot shower and then finish with really cold water, let your scalp breath/ventilate, if you have a stay at home weekend let your scalp rest, don't comb your hair the whole weekend, let it be, try to keep you hands away from it, your hands are greasy most of the times, grease or oils are big no no. Always buy different shampoos, good quality brands of course but different types so your scalp doesn't get used to a single type, this will help your scalp stay "challenged" and therefore strong, if you decide to cut it short, don't shave it off completely clean, if you do some hairs will come out again but way thiner or they won't come back at all. Now, the psychological side... I give credit of this to my parents, my dad is completely bald, he has like 1 inch left behind his head, my granddad was the same, both my mom and dad told me since little "you will be bald when you grow up, there is nothing you can do, but it doesn't matter", so I grew up with that mentality, I cared when it started thining for a couple of years but then I gave up and I felt completely free. I joked about it, my friends had nicknames for me about it (some friends who are completely bald now btw), everytime I got a new girlfriend I would joke "glad we are together now, since I only have like 3 weeks of hair left" all of them laughed and said that they didn't care. Just as the other commenter said, don't worry about what people think. I turned 40 this year, my hairline is probably half inch further back compared to when I was 16, I have a tiny scar which has served me as a metric. My younger brother is now bald, he grew up partying and drinking a lot, me on the other hand always slept early and I drink socially, so I would say that helped me too. Hair also grows back, we are not dogs who regrow fur every year, but we are creatures from nature who have a biological need for hair in their bodies at the end of the day, there is some sort of cycle, if you see your hair thinning or falling one day don't worry too much a few months down the line you will notice it is stronger and thicker relatively and then thin again, and so on. If you are at the age of looks and can grow a beard, do it, beard helps a lot to have a balanced amount of skin on your face, in other words if your forehead is growing or big you can compensate with a nice looking beard.

I used ti be a big fan of hats when I started balding, the funny thing about it it's that people used to say: "Hey, you wear hat all the time, that's the reason you're balding, because you scalp can't breath." Now I still have a collection of hats, but I only wear them sometimes in the summer.

Leader of the Pack! How about the chart that shows what kind of male pattern you have. I felt like a country club golf course as the greenery disappeared. The descriptions and council here is extraordinary. I went through it alone year after year until I buzzed it on my 30th birthday. For a time I noticed older women clutching thier purses in public as I went buy. Funny now 30 years later. Losing ones hair is a curse and a mindfuck until it isn't. 👍 Seize The Day!
