It's because Paul F. Tompkins is also a comedian (specifically a comedian who's familiar with absurdist comedy), and completely understands what Eric Andre is aiming for with his persona. So I don't think Eric feels like he has to be insane and fuck with the other person, because it would be a waste. Fucking around is primarily for people who don't get it. That leaves room for a really cool interview where they can just joke each other's jokes and have fun.

I agree with Eric, the intention should be to be to mess with people, but not be mean.

Conan is a shrew, Kimmel's a'ight, High with Doug was as dry as the grass they smoked, that Sirius show had a frigid cunt ruining the vibe the whole time, and Joan Rivers (RIP) was surprisingly funny when she wasn't making sure Eric's penis was Jewish enough for show business. But this Speakeasy interview / chat was actually enjoyable althroughout and had good questions that elicited the most out of Eric Andre and his eponymous show. He's honest and completely up front about the method behind his show's madness here, whereas with others where he's not comfortable or if he's worried his humor will never get across, he'll default to over-the-top to make the most of his wasted time.

+ffnovice7 Conan is an ill-tempered woman? Is there an alternate definition that I'm unaware of? I actually think Conan is really good with the more eccentric guests, like Eric and Russell Brand, for example. I'm not a fan of Kimmel though. I'd also like to point out that he's probably more comfortable here because he's not in front of a studio audience, so he's being sincere instead of acting crazy to entertain them. I don't think the interviewers are to blame so much.

"My Dinner with André" is a classic.

This is the best interview of Eric I’ve ever seen. You do an awesome job establishing a connection with him and asking interesting questions that people would be genuinely interested in knowing the answers to.

What a strangely captivating video

For some reason I enjoy that Eric still considers getting another upright bass.

I love Eric Andre and watch a lot of his interviews but I’ve never seen someone handle and match him so well. Great interview.

Totally. You can tell by his comedy style and pretty much ANY other interview that this man’s brain is probably just running in countless directions at all times, so an inhibitor / depressant slowing him the fuck down makes perfect sense.

This guy is a great interviewer! Lots of unique questions that provoke longer, more story-like answers. Very refreshing change of pace!

I'm pretty sure guest's already expect the "join me next time when my guest will be... a different person" bit, because maybe they have seen these online before, but I always like to see the reaction. Even though you can only see the back of their head, the small bit of face shows they crack up.

I've just realized Eric Andre sounds like Thomas Hayden Church.

This segment is my favourite thing in the internet right now. Can't stop watching these.

I think Eric is brilliant. I'm British and what he does is so close to monty Python. Confusing, slapstick and ironic humour. We had a similar kind of show to his in the uk called shooting stars. Not as dark, but exactly the same kind of humour. His humour isn't typically American. The whole premise is that not everyone gets it. That's what makes it funny. It's like telling the best joke ever to a group of people and one person just stands there confused and bewildered. That in itself is so funny. The reaction, the juxtaposition. That's why we did monty Python, the office etc. Eric Andre has got it so right.

Eric's most normal interview I have ever seen. I don't know if this was one time thing, or if in the past few years one could get from him a normal interview, but the most recent ones I've seen he's always fucking it up.

This is one of the best interviews I've seen with Eric.

I think Benson just wings it, hoping that the weed, talent and chemistry all work out together to create a more informal interview that feels natural. It doesn't always work and sometimes he comes off a bit unorganized and unprofessional, but I do like the format and see people put up some defenses or drop them all because of the reefer.

Where's he been? I find him hilarious but haven't heard from him since like season 3 a few years ago of his show. I wanna pitch a spinoff character of his ranch bro... ranchy salad. He dresses like randy savage but with more lettuce n ranch n does the same stuff but in randy voice
