Hang in there buddy. You have the right attitude. Believe me I’ve made MANY MANY mistakes over the years with my aquariums. Years ago I had a 240 gallon glass aquarium setup with a red belly pacu who at the time was almost 9 years old and about 30 inches long. I knew for a very long time he had outgrown this 24 inch wide tank. He struggled to turn around for a few years. I knew he needed a bigger tank but I just kept putting it off. I woke up one early morning to the sound of gushing water. The seam had separated on the back left corner of the tank. So of course I panicked. I took the pacu out of the tank with a large towel. He weighed at least 30 plus pounds. Boy was that a challenge getting him out. He plopped out of my arms falling about 5 feet into a 2 foot deep plastic container. Water was everywhere. To make a long story short, I’m ashamed to say I took him to a nearby river and released him. I so regret that. He was my buddy fish for almost 9 years. Come to find out, the tank had no crack. It just needed a reseal in the back left corner. I fixed the tank in about 2 hours. My poor pacu probably died in the cold river water. I also had 2 large silver arowanas, a lungfish, and a large leopard plecostomus I donated to the local fish store. If I had been patient, I would still have all my fish back in the tank. Have you thought about replacing that back section of glass? I replaced one on a sump for the first time. It wasn’t as hard as I thought. Anyway I enjoy your videos and keep persevering.

I have some stories on fish situations that makes me feel the exact same way. The key is to live and learn. With this incident I’m at least able to share my mistake and lesson with whoever chooses to watch. In hopes of preventing others from making the same mistake. You definitely have me thinking... idk if I’ll try replacing the back piece of glass..maybe I’ll use it when I build a plywood aquarium when we move into a house....nonetheless it will serve a purpose so it’s not a total loss. 👍🏾👍🏾

@@TheFishCorner Like I said earlier, I had never replaced a section of glass before. Even though it was on a sump, I’m glad I made the effort. The funny part is I watched a few KZread videos before I attempted it. I have faith in you to replace that glass. You seem like a very smart and intuitive man who is very hands on. Give it a try. You may surprise yourself. I wish you could see my 4 tank setup. It’s all plumbed with pvc pipes to send water to five 275 gallon containers to my backyard. It’s also plumbed to send fresh water back into my tanks. I also have separate submersible pumps in each tank setup for water changes and separate pumps setup in each 275 gallon tote tank. It saves me so much time doing water changes. The 275 gallon totes are plumbed to send water to my wife’s plants trees and garden. I think I mentioned that to you a while back. Anyway glad to hear from you again. You seem like a very nice person who has tons of patience in the fish hobby. Looking forward to many more of your adventures. Take care.

Man this video must have been hard to film/post. I'm glad that you are able to upload this failure as it was a though lesson to learn. Im sure that you have educated your audience to not repeat this error. You handle the situation better than most with ability to stay calm and admit mistakes. Thank you for that! I really appreciate your kind words! It was actually a protruding screw head that applied pressure on the trim of the tank and cracked it. But it’s okay, it happens and I was able to share this mistake with others in an attempt to prevent someone else from making the same mistake. 🙌🏾

Not really a failure brother just a fish keepers worst nightmare but it happens sometimes I respect you doing a video of it and not just play it off like nothing happen like some of the youtubers do

I just saw your video today of the first assembly of the 240-gallon table and then I was hooked on seeing the 225G one, until this video arrived, only with the image that you put with all the pain you felt at that moment, it's true, nobody wants to go through that , but here you show that you have the courage to face it and apart from the possible criticisms that surely are never lacking, your objective was to publish it so that the rest of us who love this beautiful hobby can learn and prevent any possible accident at home where we have our things and our children they are our treasure. a big hug my friend from Lima Perú 🙋‍♂🙋‍♂

Man that sucks! My worst fear myself. Good luck brother! I dont have tanks as large as yours but every morning i come down stairs i am looking for water with that fear on my new 55 rimless setup on my workbench. I have the foam covering up for some inperfections too. Keep moving forward, that is all you can do!

I have 5 tanks now, need to figure out where to put another.... Not sure where you live but if you can get a house with a well you would love it. It seems like your woman is on board with the fish keeping, lucky man! I am working on mine slowly.... I cant get her to approve a 240 in the living room yet.. haha. I'm stuck with tanks in the office and the basement so far.

Man the same thing happened to my 225 gallon tank over 20 years ago. Only difference, my bottom piece of glass cracked all the way across. I was home when it happened, sounded like a gun being fired. It happened after a year of being setup in the same spot. I believe the culprit was the stand as well. Good luck man we really enjoy your videos.

Thanks for sharing, the timing is perfect. I have a custom 210 gallon rimless being built, not cheap, and I'm going to be building the stand in order to save money. I hadn't considered the importance of having it perfectly level. This will certainly help with my design.

I’m sure you’ll secure the mat to the stand by other means other than screws. I knew better too, I was just exhausted so I got lazy and the crack was the end result. So if you get tired, take a break and come back fresh. Don’t work through it if you’re feeling like cutting corners... 🧠

I spilled 5 gallons of water during a water change and nearly started ripping walls down... over a tiny 5 gallons.... I have a lot of respect for you not absolutely losing your mind over this. Definitely not your fault and nothing to be embarrassed about. Only a fool would talk down to you over this. Like you purposely broke a 1100 dollar tank and dumped 100 gallons of water on the floor of your home. Btw I honestly think the new rock work set up looks better than what you had before. One positive to look at!

Really feel for you just went through this on one of my 30 gallon tanks. Luckily I saved the corals. The real bummer it was in my bedroom with carpet. Thank you again for your comment! It’s a real pain when this happened! You know what I had to do? Shampoo the carpet’s twice. I mean for hours to get them fully cleaned and smelling good, then they had to fully dry with industrial fans. thanks for sharing. One thing I learnt about large thanks is the importance of leveling it. I guess some shops provide that service and some don't upon purchasing new large tanks. Thanks for sharing this, was helpful!

It’s okay, thank you for that! And good, that was the idea, preventing others from making the same mistake. One recommendation though, if you’re not putting an acrylic tank on that stand, don’t use a mat. Glass tanks don’t need it. But it’s entirely up to you obviously. Good luck!

AWE SHIT. Damn man i feel you. My 180 cracked at the corner after 16 years 1/3rd the tank on the floor on one sad sunday. You be back man. When my new tank came in we put a level pad on too, but we used double sided tape all over the bottom to keep it center.

I'm happy you shared this. This has been my worry with setting up my saltwater aquarium. I just bought a 75 gallon and I want to have some contingencies for water damage just in case the aquarium cracks. I was thinking about adding a metal plate with a lip underneath it that can hold water and having a large capacity Shop-Vac on hand. I don't want to take the chance of ruining my rental property floors. Besides that I've read some negative reviews on aqueon 75 gallon tanks cracking. I've even read that I can add my own bead of silicone to reinforce it.

I’m glad you found this useful. We can’t guarantee our tanks will never fail but as you said, it’s really about having a contingency plan. I acted very fast, and my rug doctor carpet extractor along with a fan saved the day. No damage at all.

Damn bro, that was tough to see! I felt your pain. Sucks having to clean up that mess & trying to save the rest of your fish!! Not to mention kinda expensive! I used a spray adhesive for my leveling mat. No screws or nails. Well you probably helped some beginner fish keeper on what not to do. I can't believe there are people who would give negative comments on what you went through. It can happen to any of us who love this hobby. The new tank looks beautiful. Take care👍

Yep tank sunk in resting the rim on the screw!!!!! My man Im so sorry to see this and it's saltwater so you're cleanup has to be on point....dam this sucks!!!!! Dude hate seeing this but you live and you learn, thank God you are in position to replace quickly!! Could of been so bad, but fish come first over everything I'm glad it worked out!!!!!!

Thanks for showing real what to expect situations an how to maintain stability. While under pressure , salute and respect for the form of staying ready . Honestly this is only talked about but to see it ,opened my eyes I’m holding a 65 fresh water cichlid tank new to this. I had a 55 gallon start to leak on me after over 5 years of being used. It was an old setup and the crappy wooden stand had started to shift making the aquarium twist just enough to leak. Luckily it didn’t completely break. I’m sorry for your loss.

This sucks man. But these things do happen unfortunately. Thanks for updating us to the reality of fishkeeping. Hoping things go better with the new tank. Get a box turtle for that tank now. They have big personalities.

Researching and thinking about getting an aquarium going. And shit like this is what I needed to see man. Not to scare me off but because now I know that tanks have to be level. That's not even something I've thought about. No one has mentioned it in a "Beginners How to" yet. Something I have to be aware of as someone who's never done this is the "dangers" of it all and how to fix them should the worst happen. So I appreciate you sharing this even though you may find it embarrassing.

Thank you for commenting. I really appreciate your feedback. There’s so many things that we as fish keepers learn firsthand, KZread has made it easy for us to learn from others mistakes. So regardless of how embarrassing I felt when this happened, I didn’t want someone else to go through it. Your comment reinforces this video being helpful. To elaborate more on the flaw of the stand, it wasn’t necessarily the uneven stand, it was the screw I used to secure the foam mat I didn’t need for a glass tank with trim, that cracked the tank. An uneven tank can make any side of the aquarium blow out from water pressure though. If you have any questions that will help you transition into a fish keeper, don’t hesitate to ask. This hobby is worth the money spent on it.

@@TheFishCorner thanks for the reply I actually have a bunch of questions. 1. Someone is offering to give me a large amount of coral skeleton. It's all dead. Been sitting in his garage. Free. But what's the best way to prep it to use it? 2. Due to the tank I got the best way for me to get setup is a cannister filter. I've found if they aren't maintained they become nitrate factories. But I haven't seen a vid yet on how to maintain them. Do I just rince them out with soap and water? Daily? Weekly? Monthly? 3. Is coral and reef something different? I probably have more but I can't think of right now. I don't suppose youd be cool with me emailing some questions I may think of? I actually have a 55 gallon tank and the funds to get started. I just don't wanna be a fish murderer if I can help it.

I'm sorry of what happened to your tank. When I saw that crack I was just thinking what happened to it but looking really hard I noticed the foam n before u lifted the tank up I said to myself he had to screw the foam., but things happened n it hurt but I'm glad that u got another one. Your saltwater tank looks wonderful. U should do a african cichlid tank.
