5:00 An easier way would be to mount the GPU directly to the motherboard and solve the driver issues, set the BIOS settings Gen 3 and then connect via the PCIe riser. Of course in your case it would need disassembly etc so if you have a Gen 3 GPU lying around I understand how that'd be easier! I had been debugging this issue since days and finally found this fix some time back.

Yep, back to the M1 with dual 240 rads. It’s just such a great setup! I rebuild my main PC about once a year, jumping cases and components, but my last several builds have been M1 and dual 240s. For peak single-GPU gaming, this is my favorite combination of size, acoustics, and performance. My system is a 3700X and 2080Ti now. I’m planning to upgrade to a 5900X and 3080/6900XT, and I will still have no problem dealing with the heat quietly. The 30-series’ smaller reference boards will even give better airflow to the bottom rad while being much easier to build around.

Hey, I've been having the same performance issues with my Crosshair VIII Formula and my 5950X, thanks for the sanity check. I've played around the BIOS and found a few settings tweaks greatly improved performance, both single and multi-core. So far, going in and simply setting a -0.0875V offset has increased my effective all core boost up to 3.8GHz, up from the 3.6GHz I had when everything was "Asus stock settings." My processor also kept boosting up to 4.9G8Hz or on a single thread when using CBR20 (615pts, much higher than the stock 589 I was getting). Temps went also down considerably when a single thread was being used (was getting upwards of 70°C when stock on a dual 360 radiator open loop with a similar DDC pump, down to 60°C-ish). Explicitly disabling PBO max enhancer also improved the accuracy of reported clock speeds (it reported 4.4GHz all core when enabled, which was obviously wrong as was visible on HWinfo64). Enabling PBO expectedly increased multi-core thermals (50°C on average without PBO vs 79°C with PBO in CBR20), as the current limits went off the roof (215W reported vs 120W without PBO), but the all core boost clocks went over 4.3GHz and the single core boost kept hovering around 4.9GHz. All in all, the max VCore I observed stock was 1.5V on single core workloads, which went down to 1.413V max with my undervolt. PBO raised the average 1V all core workload to 1.25V with a 500MHz or so boost to all core frequency. I think this is the result of an incredibly inefficient BIOS on the 'older' X570 boards which blasts current and voltage to extremely inefficient levels on lightly threaded workloads while throttling the voltage down hard to remain in the 120W official PPT limit. I'm equally disappointed that performance is so comparatively poor relative to other motherboards as Strix and Crosshair motherboards represent the higher end of Asus motherboards and one would expect they'd be paying closer attention to those to make sure performance stays top notch. Hopefully a BIOS update in the future will fix this. Thanks for the video. It motivated me to look for more intricate solutions than I usually would. I hope this helps in the off-chance you read this, as that build looked very cool. I may or may not do a follow-up to this with after playing around more with PBO settings if anyone's interested.

Hi Ali, long fan of yours. Ever since the Nvidia Ampere presentation of the 3080 and 3090 I knew you would try them in a custom liquid cooled loop in the FormD T1 and in the Ncase M1. My impressions at the time, even before seeing them confirmed by your videos, were that the FormD T1 could have been a good candidate for the FE 3080 to be almost viable in air-cooled configuration, thanks to the possibility to have the extra 1 slot space at the exhaust due to the possibility offered by the case to have a 3 slot GPU compartment. Still I though that the 320W were too much to truly be comfortably viable, but the actual results were a little bit better than I expected. Now onto this video, even before watching this, I thought that both the 3090 and 3080 would have been too power hungry for the FormD T1 with their super high TDP for a single radiator that has to cool a 120W CPU as well. I imagine that the performance in the Ncase M1 will be probably adequate with your dual radiator set-up that you used for your OC 10900K and 2080TI (with a combined wattage at just under 500W if I remember correctly). Making a quick calculation an undervolted 3090 at 335W + the stock 5950X at120W totals to about 455W under a sustained load witch puts in a comparable power envelope to your previous system! By the way, your work and this channel is a huge inspiration for me, as you really create some exceptional videos, with truly mesmerizing cinematography skills and the quality of information is also very high!

Hi! Great video and presentation as always. Having just finished an external cooling tower custom loop, and hearing what you were in pursuit at the time, may I suggest keeping with this case and just adding an external cooling setup? As you said you could make it work with 2x240s or maybe an easier to setup 1x560, that you could have resting at the wall and below the desk with acool's quickdc's for easy maintenance. I decided to have a separate fan controller and power supply for the tower but you can def make it more elegant as you prefer. Thank you.

I was having the same kind of issue with my 5900x and my x570 tomahawk where it would not boost up even close to the rated speeds. I was getting like 4.1 all core and 4.5 single core. Turns out in the bios that if you enable PBO and manually set an additional 200mhz clock in a setting that pops up AFTER that then you can get the rated speeds. Then there is also the AMD Curve Optimizer which tremendously helps with temps. I am now boosting to 4.9-5ghz single core and 4.55 all core while running much colder than before, so I am hitting about 70C exact. You also have to manually set the PPT, TDC, and EDC as mine would be stuck at stock thereby limiting my performance to 4.1ghz. With my board I can go up to 500 for PPT (maxing out currently at 260), 210 TDC, and 290 EDC. To access this part of the bios for me it was in the advanced bios mode, then select settings, then advanced, then AMD Overclocking. From there you can find the Precision Boost option and set it to advanced. This is technically an overclock but my system is somehow running up to 10C colder than stock, at slightly higher voltages, and hitting much higher boost speeds.

Did a similar build in terms of space in a wall cavity 2 years ago. Had similar issues. I was able to resolve it by splitting the cooled liquid coming out of the loop and sending 2 independently cooled lines to the inlets and then taking the 2 independent hot lines out of the components and combing them back into the loop. I also kept the fan speed at full speed on the rad at all times. Another issue you need to resolve is have another fanned exhaust in the case to get eid of the residual heatbfeom other components

From what research I’ve done, water cooling the 3080/3090 is a no go at present in the ncase m1 because the water block inlet/outlet values stick out further than the case side panel. It looks like the founders edition card with the special ekwb block for it might work, (depending on if they interfere with the bottom radiator inlet/outlet in an M1. Regardless the founders edition water blocks aren’t on sale yet.
