My DoorDash Dasher Horror Stories!

After over 1,200 DoorDash deliveries as a Dasher I've certainly had quite a few stories. Most all have been great, but some, less than 1% have been horror stories.

For the gated entrance customers, I usually call or text them to either let me in, if the code is not specified in the special instructions, or to meet me at the entrance. That happened to me at a fancy home with a 24/7 guard. The customer never answered but the security guard let me in since I looked legit with my Doordash Pizza box and customer name. Super nice mansions there near Oak Brook, IL. Kinda jealous, lol.

I had a apartment order in the ghetto that was paying well but took me a solid 15 minutes to find the apartment building, as there were multiple buildings. Honestly apartment customers need to think twice about ordering from delivery services. It is a pain in the butt to find the exact location in apartments.

I just completed my 1,000 delivery in Missoula, MT today. I don't really have any horror stories to share, but ... be aware that apartment communities are challenging. I find it remarkable that some builders construct apartment communities without putting street addresses on them.

Oh and I also have a story where I had a late night 7/11 order where the customer had ordered 2 BIG GULPS and 2 BIG pina colada sluprees, and the employee put those damn drinks in ONE flimsy cardboard cup holder. I knew it wasn’t gonna end well because I actually made it safely to the diner without spilling because I had to drive so carefully and go way under the speed limit. Of course with my luck i make it there safely but as soon as I open the apartment complex door one of the slurpees fell right out of the holder and right in front of the customers door😂😂😂 Made a huge mess omg so embarrassing. But thankfully went back and got a free slurpee and got it back to the diner asap. Moral of the story is buy your own drink holders, or ask the store to give you more than one cardboard cup holder because I learned the more holders stacked on top of eachother = more secured drinks. Definitely was a nightmare though.

I work as a support for doordash and customers really hate those stacked orders they always question why would dashers pickup and deliver another order along the way and they've alway wanted to be prioritized all the time

Selfish people, it's always me me me. I had the same thing happen to me while delivering, the customer said: "why did you go the opposite direction to my house?", I said: "well the app priorities the orders" I then get a 1 star rating from this customer. How do I know? Well it was my first time dashing and after I completed her order, I looked at my ratings and I had a 1.0 customer rating..... I was livid!

Jeez I totally forgot I was doing an order to an apartment complex same as most of y’all and you need a code to enter, but leaving there was no coded way out and no sensor to open gate. I was trapped for so long until another dasher came to save me at the gate. Already completed order so couldn’t call diner. Can’t believe that this can happen and it’s very scary! Especially at night for my case!!!

How about you go to make the delivery, it’s dark , your signal goes dead 💀, you contact the customer and it’s a friend not the delivery person? , it’s a really bad area where you don’t want to even get out of the car 🚗😮you finally find the house .i take a snapshot of the food on the porch . 5 min later that same girl is calling me saying why didn’t you bring the food up to the 3rd floor ?( I’m thinking cause I don’t even want to enter a bldg in this area)☠️ someone must’ve taken the food ? I’m calling doordash and reporting you and wants a refund . I told her my signal went dead 💀 and I took a pix of the food being delivered on your porch. I said go ahead call them . Taking the pix she must’ve not called cause I never heard anything about it . That took 45 min for $7 🤷‍♂️and a few years off my life sitting in this bad neighborhood for this long .😮🚨☠️💀🌹

This happened to me just today!! She had me deliver to her at Walmart, she was waiting outside the store with her shopping cart lol. I handed it directly to her and she looked me in the eye and said thanks. Ten minutes later I got the notification that she reported it undelivered! I actually called DD directly but they said it had to be reviewed. Anyway I can still dash for now. Sooooo angry!!

That happened to me once. Doordash customer support service checked the order, they saw that I texted them a ETA time, and they also saw that I was at the location of the address drop off via GPS. It was a rainy night and the customer picked up the order. If this ever happens to you, doordash double checks that your GPS matches with the address as well

JB Whitebirch ive had some experience now, and I am extra careful and take more precaution if the order contains more than $60 worth of products. The orders for grocery items and non food products are higher risk for false claims. They’re probably addicts who want to resell the items for drug money.

Anton Carrera DoorDash seems pretty good about siding with the delivery person when it comes to these claims. I just wish eBay was as fair when it comes to buyers making false claims.

At what point do you take matters into your own hands and have cup holders and other trays or flat surfaces to secure the order. Like Oh my God I don't have to take the imitative to make sure I'm providing good service. Just pay me my money and be grateful that i brought you the order. Oh my God

Sometimes the DD app sends me to wrong address or the store is not even located there. For example, I had an order from a restaurant and the address sent me to a church. I had to type the restaurant name in my maps and find where it was.

Yesterday was my second day delivering for DoorDash and I had two different stacked orders during my four-hour shift. I do not recall in the app being able to see both customers’ drop off addresses and be able to prioritize one over the other. Am I missing something? On the first order, the customer texted and asked me why I was taking the highway. I did not respond because I was driving, but thought she is not aware that I have another order and that I am following the directions in the app. However, after dropping off the second order, I did think that the deliveries should have been reversed. Or maybe because she was my first order?

Wendy i think it makes you deliver whoever ordered the food first even if it’s further i’ve noticed.. like if you get a stacked order but one person ordered the food a few minutes before the other person

Ashlyn Nicole Huber Hi, Ashlyn. Yes, I agree. It makes sense that the first order should be delivered first. However, in this case, being familiar with the two areas where the customers live, it would have been more efficient to reverse the deliveries. Also, the gentleman mentioned that it was possible to choose the delivery order.

I was delivering a 5 dollar order late at night, and I was trapped in an apartment complex in La Mesa area. The customer refuse to answer my calls and messages. I was trapped there for like an hour. It was horrible.

Hi Lilly, that is REAL! That's something I've never really mentioned but it happens, for example last week I almost couldn't exit someone's home as you needed a code to EXIT the front gate (which doesn't make sense to me) and I had forgotten the code b/c I didn't think I needed it anymore. Thankfully the homeowner saw me struggling and shouted out the window but I feel you for your example. These complexes where your vehicle needs a special sticker or sensor to EXIT is a big problem for drivers and I have no idea why a complex would do that. I've had a few where I just had to wait at the gate for someone to come in.

The ordering of deliveries is also dependent on wait times. You can't deliver to customer A first on your trip who has been waiting only 10 minutes while customer B, further away, has already been waiting 25 minutes. Sorry, angry customer, but shove it.

Do not do groceries, if you want the sick and elderly to give you a cart, and get angry, if we say no, and try to leave our groceries on the entry way into the apartment, with your 500 lbs, out of breath pos. A warning to Grocery Door Dashers. Read the top and the following: I am on the first floor, and this obese monster wanted help bringing in the groceries. The customers cannot help, if you are obese, elderly with bad legs etc. Deliver sandwiches! Most DD are super nice and polite, and I do report the nasty and evil ones, which has been 2 out of 15 orders. I never had to report any Peapod drivers after decades of service.
