I am no truck scientist but shouldnt the fuse you popped back in , you know, do its fuse job and burnout, saving you from this exact scenario? Also why did you not pop the fuse back out manually instead of slashing the battery terminals?
@christophermichaels
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Duke. That's a good question and the explanation of which was just too long and boring to put in the story. The longer version is that I put a 20 amp fuse in the dash light circuit which I later found had been cut and twisted together with a number of other wires. That caused a low voltage short which didn't pop the fuse but melted the insulation off that wire and adjacent wires including the 12V constant power outlet in the dash, creating a separate short with a direct, non-fused path from the battery to the chassis that caught the plastic climate control box, various insulation and other wires in the main harness on fire. Pulling the fuse didn't stop it so I hacked the cables to cut the source of the electricity, but since the plastics and rubber were already burning I had to douse them with the sweet tea. I restored power to the PCM, TIPM, injector pump, transmission range sensor, etc to make the truck run and was lucky that the ignition circuit and the chip reader in the key switch were still good enough to clear the security system and get me home.
