My DB11 Assembly experience

This is not a instructional video or guide it's just my experience of building a DB11. I'm planning on creating a shortend version but expect people to skip through the parts that aren of intertest to them. Any questions or comments please left me know. V1.1 updated 26 Sept 2020

I am rebuilding a Steppir and this was helpful since I am adding the 40M element to mine when Im finished.

I take it you're not adding a 40m element to a DB11? I didn't think there was an option for it.

Hi Adam. I finally finished my DB11 today and got it on the mast. Everything tested and works. Only issue was fitting the black plastic sweep tubes into the thick fibre glass rod end. Was so tight, we ended up profiling it with an orbital sander then twisting it round until it went in to the right depth. Total PITA. Otherwise everything else went swimmingly. I had to take the control connector off the cable to thread it through the hole I drilled in the shack wall - will reconnect it tomorrow and take it for a spin. I hope you're well, John 2E0SVB.

Well done John, careful with all those wires :-) Would be good if we could get a QSO together some time. Maybe on 6. Have fun. G1ZHD

Very cool. I have a similar setup. I hope your neighbors aren't as mad as you as mine are.

Nope, just as mad. In fact the pensioner on one side of me will go back inside her house if she sees me. Very sad really.

Loved the presentation. I have the DB36 & waiting for a good bank holiday to start putting it together. I must say you have a patient XYL 🤣🤣🤣🤣. I’m putting this comment on & hoping you might have done a progress video. 73,s De EI4GJB

So patient, she doesn't exist. I don't have time for an XYL. Happy to do a follow up but not nuch to add. Other than having to recalibrate from time to time the antenna is working great.

@@adamg1zhd just on progress & how you find it. I plan to do a start to finish of the DB-36 when we start to get the weather for it.

@@declansheehan3207I will find some time following the WWA constest this month. I will look forward to seeing your DB-36 build. When I downsize the house in a few years time I will be looking for somewhere suitable for a proper beam, such as a 36. Cheers

When assembling, make sure you tighten those end pieces for the folded dipole down all the way. Or else they fall off. I had to fix mine 3 times before I learned that lesson. If it's cold, hit it with a hair dryer, so it doesn't crack for being brittle.

My OCD went crazy when I saw you left the protective backing on the aluminum plates.

I'm surprised how small this beam is but then I bet it costs a fortune but they say it's best to start with a really good beam, I'm well chuffed with how you explained things, I'm not electronic minded more of a black box operator, did have hex beam but looking for a beam that works the world on at least a couple of shouts and with out an amp. good luck 73 Mike M1KEY M0FCG

Thanks Mike. To be honest I forgot about how much it cost me and concentrated on the performance. I seem to recall that with the controller and cable it was about £3500. I was in two minds whether to spend the money on a radio upgrade, but I glad I didn't. Still using the same radio now with no plan to replace it, as the antenna now does all the work.
