This reminds me of my father years ago. I was like, 13 at that time and I got hooked on Chicken Invaders 5. My dad after his tiring day will go home and just sit next to me, watching me blasting those chickens' asses and cheered me on. He said that he used to really like those kind of games back when he was a kid but wasn't able to play them since we were too poor. Now he just want to see me playing it because he likes it. So fkin heartwarming and this vid gives me that same kind of vibe

My step dad and I had a rocky relationship when I was growing up, but once I got into gaming it blossomed. He helped me understand the parts to buy for my PC, how to build it, how to figure out what parts are needed, and helped me set it up. We aren't extremely close, but him being a gamer (Sim racing, he's got a whole rig that looks like a car that he built from scratch) and me getting into it (different kind of games, but still) we got closer. When it comes to War Thunder, let your dad know it actually has a Sim mode! It takes a bit longer to get into the game, but it seems like it might be something your dad would appreciate more. I got a couple of tips for your dad for air combat in War Thunder! Though I am more of a ground player myself, I still have stuff that can possibly be useful. When aiming at enemies, always make sure to have a lead in front of them. Since you're in arcade mode, there's a lead indicator (the grey circle with the dotted line in front of the enemy plane). Each gun has different muzzle velocities so getting used to leading on some may be difficult. For air to air combat, I recommend air target belts. As for when to shoot, always do it within a kilometer (preferably 0.5 kilometers), or in your case, seeing as it's in arcade, shoot when the lead indicator appears. It's easier to aim then. Also, don't hold down the trigger continuously, tap firing is your friend! If you hold it for too long, your guns will jam. In arcade, they unjam mid air, and your ammo replenishes the same way, but in realistic, you have to go back and make a landing. Finally, practice makes perfect. Joystick is very hard to get used to, and I personally couldn't get use it when I tried it at a friend's house. It is likely a lot of fun to play with one once you are familiar with it though. Hopefully you see this, Charlie, and can relay the info to your dad :) PS. I recommend starting with something like the P-26A-34 M2 or F3F-2, then go for the P-36A. The TBD-1 is not very maneuverable and is a very tough plane to play (same with the OS2U's). But of course, the plane you use is always your choice! Edit: There's also a simulator mode if your dad is really in to simulation. To change the game mode, simply look under the "To Battle" button, and click the one underneath that says "Air Arcade (1.0)", or something that's similar to that. It'll bring up the gameplay selection menu, and there you can choose whichever you'd like!

I disagree tbh. I play War Thunder with keyboard and mouse, but the controls seemed uncomfortable to me actually. The throttle seemed to be slipping on the desk and he seemed to be cautious with the joystick to avoid the same thing. Playing with KB and mouse is how I'd recommend starting the game, but the flight sim controls could probably be improved with a strap or suction cups or maybe even some threaded inserts in the desk (although idk if any flight sim controllers have mounting hardware on the bottom like cameras do, could be a fun DIY project that charlie's dad could totally handle).

Warthunder on joystick is infamously hard. Theres some real glaring issues with deadzones and input acceleration that make it near enough impossible to play consistently, let alone well, on stick and throttle. Good on him for sticking with it and trying to power through but it really is an uphill battle, especially as you move into higher tier planes where nearly everyone is on mouse and keyboard

As someone with about 5,000 hours in War Thunder, I have some tips for him The flight stick is best for simulator mode, for realistic and arcade, it’s better to use the mouse and keyboard because you are able to take advantage of the free camera and tighter turning radius. If you want to focus on fighting other planes, choose a fighter. Every plane is realistically modelled (more or less) and has its own specialties and weaknesses. The plane he was flying here was the TBD-1 Devastator. It’s got a cool name, but that’s about all it has going for it. It’s slow, cumbersome, lightly armed and is mainly designed for torpedo bombing. He will have a lot more success playing some of the naval fighters like the early wildcats and buffalos, or even the early dive bombers like the Dauntless. And for the love of god, don’t get obsessed with the game and grind out to the tippy tops of all the tech trees. Jets and modern mbts are cool as all hell, but very complicated, expensive to repair and can sometimes be very lopsided. Nothing hampers your mood more than being sniped from across the map by a Chinese wheeled tank destroyer or Russian ATGM carrier, or being taken out by a swarm of missiles launched by a F-14 or MiG-23MLD. You will have plenty of fun at the lower tiers, honestly some of my favourite aircraft are around there. Ones I’d recommend would be the IL-2s, F4U Corsair, Spitfire and the Japanese A6M Zero. Personally, I think I have about 1000 kills with the A6M5 Ko variant, it’s just extremely good at what it does. I honestly have wiped out entire teams solo with that thing thanks to its amazing agility and punchy 20mm cannons.

@YeaMan My guy, you don't have to do this to get subscribers. All you gotta do is upload somewhat frequently, and/or preferably stuff that you enjoy but also makes the algorithm happy. I've been sitting at 500 subs for about a year now, but it's been slowly going up. I'm assuming this gets some people to your channel or you wouldn't be doing it, but I was looking at your past comments on Charlie's videos and they were all nice. Do you really think keeping up a persona of "I'm better than a 4 million subscriber youtuber but I only have 156 subscribers" is going to work? If anything, people are going to your channel and either laughing, or leaving in disappointment and you get 0 subs out of that. You must have a strong belief that you can magically quit your job by being a literal NPC in the comments section of a video made by someone willing to put in a lot more work than you. When people do that to me I at least have the excuse that it was my content, but for you it's leeching. Let me know how that piggybacking goes.

When it comes to War Thunder, let your dad know it actually has a Sim mode! It takes a bit longer to get into the game, but it seems like it might be something your dad would appreciate more. The mode he was playing was "arcade battles" where the players have mouse controls, so the planes basically fly themselves. Changing the game-mode is right underneath the "To Battle!" button.

Before my grandpa passed away he loved to play fps games. He beat every call of duty up to bo4 about 50 times in the hardest difficulties every time. We also played sooooo much halo split screen together. I remember growing up always bragging to my friends about my grandpa playing call of duty and halo and none of them ever believing me until they came over and saw him in action. He might not be here anymore but i will forever have those memories and I’m fortunate enough to be able to relive them by just turning on my PlayStation or xbox whenever I want
My uncle would love this, he was very big into racing and even used to do it in the 70s and 80s. As a courtesy the funeral home put a racing print thing on the inside of his casket free of charge. I've got the banners he took from places he raced at and his collection of race cars and his iracing hat
As a frequent WarThunder player I have to say its a genuine hard game that take practice and Charlies dad is on the right path im sure with a bit more practice he will become the best ace to fly the skies. Regardless his gaming room looks so fuckin cool that is exactly how i always wanted my game room to be as a kid!

I used to play war thunder too :( I discovered that their business model was quite disingenuous and relied heavily on addiction regarding the higher tears like supersonic jets or main battle tanks which everybody plays the game for. A good dad or mom gaming is some of the most satisfying and entertaining content one can consume. Love to see it. Your dad is awesome Charlie.
The line about his room being a greaser's hangout absolutely slayed me.
it makes me really happy to see you talk about your dad. you really love this guy, and he really loves you. im just happy you two have each other :)

This is like the opposite of the relationship… a parent pulling out pictures of his kids.. kids now show videos of their parents with kid hobbies. Love it!!! Im going to be that dad for my daughter one day
It's adorable to see him hanging out with his Dad and that cool gaming room.
