There’s no synchro on first, you need to double declutch to get a grind free change from 2nd to first 👍🏻

This is why Raid Tan Hill is popular with 2Cv clubs in the UK. A hill climb to the highest pub in England.👌

A swedish author and explorer, Jan Myrdal also drove a 2CV in the african desert som time in the 50s, with very good results. But when the oil in the motor run out, he used mashed bananas as a lubricant....

This reminds me of my first car, a 1967 VW Bug. I'd get it going as fast as possible, maybe 80MPH on a long downhill just so I could do 40MPH on the next long uphill.

Ok, so went went on a vacation in the Belgian Ardennes.... When you cross Leige (Luik) you hit a steep hill on the highway. It is a 3 kilometer climb with a 7% grade.... One 2CV6, mum and dad, two children on the backseat AND a small trailer with our camping gear. I almost made it to the top in 2nd, but had to go back into 1st for the last bit.... To get it in 1st gear while rolling you can rev it up a little bit, with double clutching. Just like you drive a standard in a big rig

There is a great video on KZread: “Modded 2CV 720cc” where someone put in a bigger engine and it makes a huge difference. Seeing this car flying around English country roads, and going fast uphill in 4th gear, is really a trip.

Hill climbs in 2CV6s should be kept to 2 people. A third, especially of a passenger of fuller figure.... There is no synchro on first gear and your need to double de clutch above 3-4 mph. 2CVs since 1981 had inboard disc brakes on the front and drums on the rear... The rear ones are occasionally noisy depending on brake dust, wear and temperature. From 1948 to 1980 they had inboard front drum brakes. Yellow / Black Charlestons were replace by Light Grey / Dark Grey - the final 2CV6 on 27 July 1990. 2023 is the 75th anniversary of the 2CV and my 45 anniversary of owning 2CV6s, bringing 3 new RHD ones to Australia after use in UK and Europe. In 1982 I shipped my Charleston from France to Halifax for 7 months across Canada & USA after 6 months in Europe, Ireland & UK. More Smiles Per Mile - Down Under...

The sad thing about this video is that Citroen would beat 3 of my cars up that hill. (1963 King Midget, 1948 Crosley wagon, 1923 Model T). My 1913 Indian motorcycle might beat that Citroen. Gotta love odd cars even if they are slow!

And a fact about the brakes.... 2CV's use LHM fluid to brake. This is a hydraulic oil, used in Citroen, Bentley and Rolls Royce cars.. The brake disks, pads and drums are not the concerning parts. It is the fluid. When you hold you foot on the brake pedal for a extensive time, the fluid heats up and at a certain point it flips over from oil into a watery substance: Brakes gone! When the oil cools down, it turns back into oil and everything is back to normal.

If you were by yourself you would have done it a lot faster. Also, 1st to 2nd gear there is no synchromesh so you have to double clutch and revmatch. And a hint: it doesn't roll even at J turns😉

why that limit so slow that road, any modern car a fun road the fun taken away because low limit. i see that so often on usa country roads. uk we have much more narrow roads even single track (only just wider than fiesta) what can be a 60mph and modern car when you get to safe place to do 60 it feels like 120mph on those single track lanes. to have fun on slow road have very slow car what might tip over or feel that way

I suggest that you do not invite your back seat passenger again, he spoiled the vibe and did not buy into the whole 2CV experience. It is a wonderful car and a really important piece of automotive history. BTW, you could slightly re-calibrate the engine, get the c.c. up to around 700 c.c. + and then go up the hill climb even quicker , enjoy!
