Lyrics:
Now, I know that I can't make you stay, but where's your heart?
But where's your heart? But where's your-
And I know there's nothing I can say to change that part
To change that part, to change...
So many bright lights, they cast a shadow, but can I speak?
Well, is it hard understanding I'm incomplete?
A life that's so demanding, I get so weak
A love that's so demanding, I can't speak
I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Honey, if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home
Can you see, my eyes are shining bright, 'cause I'm out here
On the other sideof a jet black hotel mirror, and I'm so weak
Is it hard understanding I'm incomplete?
A love that's so demanding, I get weak
I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Honey, if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home
I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Honey, if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home
These bright lights have always blinded me
These bright lights have always blinded me, I say!
I see you lying next to me
With words I thought I'd never speak
Awake and unafraid, asleep or dead
(How can I see, I see you lying)
'Cause I see you lying next to me
(How can I see, I see you lying)
With words I thought I'd never speak
(How can I see, I see you lying)
Awake and unafraid, asleep or dead
(How can I see, I see you lying)
'Cause I see you lying next to me
With words I thought I'd never speak
Awake and unafraid, asleep or dead
'Cause I see you lying next to me
With words I thought I'd never speak
Awake and unafraid, asleep or dead!
I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
(Or dead!)Honey, if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home
(Or dead!) I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
(Or dead!)Honey, if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home
(Or dead!)I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world, alone
(Or dead!)Honey, if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home

Mcr isnt dead. Dont listen to them for a few months then come back and bam. Its like brand new music. Mcr was never generic with their sound. They went with chords that were unique and timeless. Mcr still lives on, stronger now than ever.

I'm not saying the band is bad, but "They went with chords that were unique and timeless", absolute bullshit, barely any chords are "Unique and timeless" because 99.999% of artists use the same fucking chords, if anything the chords MCR use are less "Timeless and unique" because complicated chords sound crap on distorted guitars, therefore generally only power chords are used, which aren't unique at all.

I cannot overstate the sheer power of this song. In a whole album about death, about coming to grips with one's own mortality, this song that's titled "famous last words," with its chorus starting with the words "I am not afraid..." you would thing it's a line like "I am not afraid of dying," right? NO! He says "I am not afraid to keep on living!" And that, I think, is just such a more powerful message.

especially given that most of us are afraid of that. Death is charming. Its easy. Life is fucking hard, right now im struggling with trying to grasp wanting to live again, ive been through a lot and im fine now, but given being fine, means i can life live again and im so fucking afraid of that. But what this song speaks to is the courage of keep going, to not be afraid od living again
"I am not afraid to keep on living" Wrote that on my whiteboard with a permanent marker. I look at it every single morning and it reminds me that I am strong enough to get up and keep going.

I'm not a super emotional person but this song literally never fails to make me tear up.
All of MCR songs, especially this one, helped me lot when I was fighting my depression. The line, "I am not afraid to keep me living" made me realize that dying in a selfish way is ugly, and letting my depression eat me alive is unforgivable. Though this band has died many years ago, still they are and will always be my favorite band of all time. Thank you My Chemical Romance. I will continue living for you.

"Drummer Bob Bryar sustained second and third degree burns on the back of his legs while shooting the video, yet persisted in staying until the recording was finished. This burn later resulted in gangrene. Way tore muscles in his leg and foot when Frank Iero tackled him while he was in a kneeling position, leaving him in a hospital for several days. Way recalls that, during the filming, they were all "mortified" from the engulfing flames surrounding the set. After the stay in the hospital, the doctors refused to let them perform in San Diego as the band originally planned. Ray Toro fractured his fingers also during shooting and Bob Bryar received multiple blisters around his hand as a result of extreme playing over a long period of time. "

I remember when the dailymail called MCR a suicide cult but in retrospect, there is so much positivity in their music. Compare this to the vapid glorification of Xanax, drugs and suicide in certain hip hop subgenres at the moment, and it's apparent. There was a period around 2006 - 2007 when MCR was one of the most hated bands in the mainstream, but really they were just victims of their own success. I think history is going to be much kinder to them than the present was, their music is truly iconic.

That’s dumb because TØP have touched on suicide a lot more than MCR. Dailymail don’t know didiley squat lol, suicide cult? Get outta here. God how times have changed!
Man this hits different. One of my best friends is on the border of being sent to a mental hospital for the next three years and the thought of losing them hurts me so much. It seems like every bad day I have I always come back to this video. Every time without fail. I have to wonder if Gerard knew how many people he'd help with this song as he was writing the lyrics, or whilst he screams the powerful, "I am not afraid to keep on living, I am not afraid to walk this world alone"
after recovering from all my struggles I can really feel this song emotionally. I am not afraid to keep on living, I am not afraid to walk this world alone. Gerard will always be my idol, hes so inspiring.
Listening to mcr and especially singing along feels like such a release, like a huge weight off my chest

Fun fact: The music video and radio version of this song has a different ending than the album version. The album version ends in a choir symbolizing the patient went to heaven while the music video and radio version ends in the electric guitar symbolizing that he went to hell. I love it when artists do cool stuff like this. It’s such a small touch but adds so much more

If i die without going to their concert at least once, I will haunt every single member of mcr (even the old ones)
Introduced to these by my then teen daughter, and I was concerned - until I listened to the music!! As an oldie who professes to liking anything from Abba to ZZ top - I was enthralled with the Black parade album, not so much of the earlier stuff though. THEN - I took her to one of their concerts and WOW. Seen them three times now, each time Gerard has sung Cancer - which is one of my faves to see him do, all stripped back, with just him and a piano. Amazing!!

Holy crapoly, how did this banger of a song just turn 17 years old. Thank you MCR for being timeless. I hope to listen to this another 17 years and beyond! ✨
I loved this song as a teenager when it came out, but its (along with the whole album, really) significance in my life has exponentially increased after the death of my mom in 2021 from cancer, more important now in my 30s than when i first heard it in my teens. She lived halfway across the world from where i live when she decided to tell us all about the cancer she had been living with for a long time. By the time i was able to go see her, the cancer was terminal, though we didnt know it at the time and we were cautiously optimistic. I had limited time available to take off work, so the day of my flight back i visited her for the last time and she gave me a big hug, started crying because "her boy was leaving" as she said then. We shared the biggest hug we've ever shared, and she whispered in my ear: "dont be afraid...dont be afraid to live your life". Even while everyone tried to be optimistic, in that moment a small part of me felt that those would be the last words i ever heard from her in person. My brother and i were raised by her alone and our father was never in thr picture. I flew back to where i lived at the time and two weeks later, my brother (who was still with her) messages me late at night that her situation worsened very quickly and that i should prepare to book a flight the next day. At 5 am the next morning, he calls me again and i knew before he said anything that she was gone. I have never cried in my entire life the way i did then, it was like a part of myself died. I truly havent been the same since, i dont think anyone ever is after the death of someone so close. Every day i regret coming back for something as stupid as work, but she wanted me to continue living my own life. "Dont be afraid to live your life"...i think about her last words to me every single day. I try to honor her by living it, i dont always succeed of course, im very often wracked with fear. Never of dying...of living. This album is a tremendous achievement, and i always tear up listening to this song now.

mcr became my favorite band as soon as i discovered them a few years ago. their music always scratched an itch inside of me. it's just such raw human emotion. i went to their concert and had the time of my life. a month ago my dad passed away. now many mcr songs feel like they were written just for me. can't listen to that "i see you lying next to me with words i thought i'd never speak awake and unafraid, asleep or dead" without thinking about me saying i love you to my dad when he was in a coma. maybe that's tmi but idk i just needed to ramble on here. mcr are so important to me and to so many other people. famous last words feels like a warm hug and a lesson about how to let go of it. it's like the song is telling me to give the world that same warmth my dad gave me. i miss you dad, i miss you dearly and i love you so much
this song makes me want to live more and more each time i hear it.
