Wasn't this the cat that also had FIP but Hannah was able to get ahold of some black market medicine (medicine legal in a lot of countries but hasn't been tested yet in America and so isn't available here...not a literal black market, lol) and also lived? Coco has been through a frickin roller coaster of a life and just keeps on chugging! I'm really proud of that cat and she's extremely lucky to have Hannah as a "mom" 😊.

We have rattlesnakes, but so rare that no one I’ve known has ever seen them. They’re more in the southern half of my state and even then they are rare, and that’s the only venomous snake that is possible in this place. Mostly we just get grass snakes. This is why I love the north.
Kitties gotta be careful around the danger noodles.
It's not a good thing I live in Australia and my cat was bit by a brown snake ,by the time we got to her she couldn't walk . We took her to the vet. The doctor put her on a drip and didn't need antivenom, but an overnight at the vet on the drip, she came good
Just goes to show, even the "safe" spaces our beloved animals inhabit can become dangerous in seconds. Thank you for sharing Coco's story. Give her lots of kisses from us all! Thank you for ensuring the snake's safety, too. The little guy was probably terrified as well.
I love how you point out that the snake wasn't acting out of malice and it's best for both parties that they can't get into the catio. You have so much empathy for every being and it's just beautiful to see. (Also, "danger noodle" lol)
My cat was bitten by a brown snake about a year ago, and one wallet consuming black hole later she's still here to tell the tale. Since we didn't see the snake or the confrontation ourselves, what saved our cat's life was noticing behavioural changes! I think many cats tend to hide or go to specific spots when they are sick, and for our cat that is her favourite spot outside next to the aviary. Normally if you go out to say hello to her, she'll jump up and come over for pats, but this time she didn't move an inch and I knew something was up. I didn't think it was a snake bite at first (I thought she might have eaten poison or something), but I am enterally grateful we decided to take her to the vet regardless, because we almost certainly would have lost her otherwise. Even despite the fact we caught on fairly early, she had to be cared for in the pet hospital on oxygen and IV for a few days, and lost a lot of muscle strength. She's a mostly indoor cat now, much to her displeasure. But that's what you get for taking on the second most poisonous snake in the world!
Aww poor Coco, She's been through so much the last few years. I'm so glad she survived.💙

Oh my goodness! What a terrifying experience, I am SO happy that coco survived. I would like to build a (snake proof!!) catio someday for supervised enrichment, but wildlife like venomous snakes and coyotes are among the biggest reasons I don't allow my cats to go outside!! Lost too many childhood cats to vehicles and "disappearances" 😭 I would be so devastated if my babies ever got hurt, as an adult now I take my responsibility for their safety very seriously! And thankfully despite being indoor/outdoor cats before we adopted them, they are both perfectly happy indoor cats now-they much prefer demanding affection and cuddles from us rather than going outside 🥺 Anyway, good work Hannah! Your vigilance and preparedness saved Coco's life!!
Coco, cat of 9 x 9 lives! Happy you are okay, Coco! This is also a good reminder/lesson that rattlesnakes are born poisonous!
Coco is a hardcore cat. Thankfully she was in safe hands and you guys acted so fast.

Oh my! I am so glad that Coco is okay. ❤ She is an absolute warrior for fighting off cancer and surviving the rattlesnake bite.
Oh no! Good to see she’s doing well.
That small bit with a cat carrier near the door... True professional caregiver. Somehow it hit more that the 'turn off the video and rush to the vet' bit. Maybe because of the delayed understanding. I'm glad it ended up good!
Coco said, "Nope Rope, you gotta go". I am so glad that your fearless warrior is ok. But she is beginning to go through those nine lives very quickly. Mom and Dad need to have a sit down with her.
I hadn't thought about keeping a cat carrier at the door in case of emergency! Will definitely be doing that from now on, thank you!
😢Poor Coco baby. I’m glad you relocated the snake instead of beating it to death with a shovel. Most people are nice, but after seeing their pet get bit and having to get anti-venom, they get home so angry/upset, they hand down a death sentence out of a misplaced sense of vengeance. It’s not the snakes fault. Snakes are gonna snake
as someone who adores cats and reptiles, thank you so much for acknowledging that the snake was acting in self defense and safely relocating it! all animals are great, but not all animals are great in the same space. i'm so glad coco is okay :))
My cat somehow had his claw behind his back and dragged the brown snake to my parents and they got rid of the brown snake and pringles was 100% fine but we took him to a vet just in case and he was fine lol
Coco is a mad lad, fighting cancer and a rattlesnakes. Andrew’s snake tattoo is looking real funny rn tho

Keeping a carrier by the door ? Lol you’re the best. You’re the mother of all fur babies in the world. Gos bless you !!
Poor Coco's really been through it. I'm glad she's doing well.
So glad coco’s okay. She’s been through enough after cancer and other health scares. Reminds me of my grandparents’ farm cat, Peekie. She faced things when the cards are stacked against her, yet she overcomes it in stride while protecting the farm. She’s nearly 20 years old if not over and still protects her farm kingdom, even though she slowed down and prefers sleeping the sun.
I didn't know that there was anti-venom for animals. Or that Vet Hospitals would be able to do that type of care. I really had no idea. Everyone has gaps of important unknown information. Thank you for filling this one for me. Thank you so much for the video.
Someone already said this but thank you for not demonizing the snake, it was just protecting itself after all. The situation isn’t good for either party
We have been considering a catio but have been concerned about snakes getting in through the wire. On the mountain here in WV we have 2 poisonous snakes. We definitely keep an eye on them because of our great pyrenees. I dont think I would be comfortable with a catio unless it had good screening but cats are so hard on any we have found. So glad you were there and that Coco will be OK. Baby rattler bites can be worse than the big ones.
@pamgrant832
Жыл бұрын
@Haley Hackney Lots of the timberrattler bites around here are dry bites unless you pin them but those small ones will strike and multiple times. Unfortunately lots of people pick them up "because they dont have a rattle" Its not that they are more poisonous. Regardless I wouldnt want any of them in my catio. 🙀🌾
@pamgrant832
Жыл бұрын
@Haley Hackney oh i agree. My niece was bit by a pygmy rattler in FL. It was a nasty bite. Big snake, small snake, dry or not it is going to hurt.
She's Coco the Wonder Cat! All that can stop her now is the need to nap, closed doors and her own steely will. Live long and prosper, sweet Coco. Oof, I felt that panic set in as you realized Coco was playing with a snake. That split second switch to terror is potent pet parent nightmare fuel! Rattlers are so common here in Cali, I'd be surprised if at least half of animal hospitals in the state didn't carry rattler antivenin through the spring and summer months. Especially down south, where it gets and stays hotter so there are more active rattlesnakes for pets and working animals to come into contact with. Antivenin doesn't last long in a fridge, though, so places that need it most often require frequent re-supplies, which is primarily where the availability issue comes into this equation. Places that report a lot of bites are (understandably) prioritized to prevent liquid gold from going to waste. Snake-proofing the catio was an excellent idea, I'm gonna hafta pass the mesh idea along to a few friends with catios, so thank you for that solution! Nobody needs a rattlesnake in their catio, no matter how badly the cats wanna play with it.
I'm glad Coco survived. Give her a hug and a kiss for me.
Really, really happy Coco pulled through so quickly! I wonder if the snake being a baby might have also helped some, with less potent venom? Either way, very lucky you caught it so fast! And for those with dogs, my caution would be that if you have a back yard or go on nature walks, be careful of toads. For a few months with my last dog, we kept getting toads in the yard. The dog would want to take a lick from them and would instantly regret it. She foamed at the mouth and I would wash her mouth out with water and she then seemed fine, but it was always scary.
@mariag.8242
Жыл бұрын
I lived in Florida for one miserable year and in spring one of my cats started catching little toads, which yes, made him very sick. I kept a close eye out and every time he got his mouth on a toad I grabbed him and used a turkey baster to rinse his mouth thoroughly. I’m a vegetarian so why I had a turkey baster was unknown, but I found out 😅 and of course being rinsed was unpleasant so he became reluctant to pounce on toads.

Smaller rattlers don't have as much venom, but they often release all they have when they bite. Like juvenile skunks spray all the stench have at a predator, adults only spray enough to get them to leave. Adult rattlers have learned to only deliver enough venom to immobilize thier prey, (far less than needed tor humans and larger pets), so they inject less venom overall than a juvenile, even though thier glands are larger and fuller. The venom takes days to weeks (depending on species) to replenish thier venom glands, it isn't like filling up a water balloon.
Coco is spending lives like it's going out of fashion Coco slow down baby
Honestly poor Coco she’s been through so very much give her lots of hugs love and kisses from me please. I love your furry family and Hubby too😉 Cheers cherieK 🦋🌈🐿🇦🇺
Cancer, FIP, snakebite. That is one tough cat!! So glad it's a happy ending. One of the nice things about living in a northern plains state is there are no poisonous snakes here, and not much in the way of poisonous insects, scorpions, etc. either. Not that it's safe to let a cat out. Cities are still dangerous, and in rural areas there are plenty of predators. Our cats stay indoors.
So you're telling me that this cat survived being stuck in a tree, cancer, and now a rattlesnake?! I guess cats really do have 9 lives.

That’s one tough cat. She clearly has a will to live. I saw a guy who’s dog got but by a baby rattle snake. His owner was still walking it not realizing it was a rattle snake. My bf told them to get their dog to the emergency vet immediately. I hope that dog lived. It is scary to me because I had no clue we had rattle snakes around my town I thought they were more in the mountains and high desert.
Rattlesnakes can control the amount of venom they inject when they bite, and they will adjust it according to the size of their prey or the level of threat / anger that they are experiencing when being attacked.
No rattlesnakes here, except one that's water loving and Kit doesn't go out, but if she did? She loathes wet.. Thank goodness. I would have lost it and been sobbing. The babies have stronger venom.

So glad Coco is okay!! That cat has 20 lives lmao
I live in Australia and so we have venomous snakes of course. My friend had 2 dogs that was protecting her son from a deadly snake. Both dogs got bitten and she had to rush both dogs to the vet. Sadly the closest vet could only do one dog at a time with antivenom (monitoring and administration as they had low staff numbers). So my friend made the tough decision to give the meds to the worst of the 2 and hope the other dog would hold on until the first one was finished. Sadly, the dog crashed not long after and didn't make it. The dog that did get the meds, survived. Both dogs are heroes though as they saved a 6 year old
That's horrifying. I grew up in the Arizona desert and my dad always said the baby rattlers were more dangerous because they didn't yet know how to regulate the amount of venom they were injecting. I'm so glad your Coco is okay (I had a burmese baby named Cocoa).
