Hi again, when I took my chemo treatments, all of the patients sat in a long room, in recliners, I met new friends, we all talked a lot, many brought lunches and many nurses to help us all out. I also had a pic line installed in my arm that stayed there the whole 4 months and that's where my chemo went through every other week, so much easier than getting picked in my hand every time.

So glad I found your channel. Just finished round 2 of chemo, but before that, I ended up getting an infection and was in hospital for a week. During that time they had to find veins to take blood from. I ended up giving blood through my hand veins and and wrist veins (🤯) - was so traumatised with this experience that I now have a needle phobia and get quite worked up with giving blood or getting injections

Lol, you are NOT crazy, you are normal mentally, (fuzzy though thanks chemo! but thats normal) and if you didnt worry about that stuff , then Id be worried that something was screwy with your thinking. I hated it when people would say "you so brave". I just wanted to yell, NO, no Im not.. You on the other hand are doing really well on the 'dealing with it' scale. I mean really, you look beautiful, your getting up and putting on makeup, nice clothes and a smile... all of which is really important for your mental health and maintaining that feeling of Im a human being and I will get through today. I know the word Im looking for... GRACE. You are dealing with your circumstances with grace. I was a grumpy whiner more often than not. If I have to do it again I hope I can deal with it better and with the kind of grace you are.

Hiya Dee, I was supposed to have my third round of AC chemo yesterday but blood count way low. How did you deal with psychologically preparing for the round to then be told 'sorry, not today'? Haven't been given info much about white blood cell counts, just that it was 700. I googled it and totally freaked out and went to pieces finding that the normal count is between 4000 and 11000.

I was delayed 3 times due to low WBC and neutrophils. I am getting Zarxio shots in preparation for the next one and will probably have to get Neulasta to finish up. I cried the first two times I was delayed...it's such a mental/emotional time. I guessed the 3rd time that I would be delayed...I was more fatigued than usual. My neutrophils were dangerously low. I have two more rounds (of 8) and then on to chemoradiation. I haven't been able to get proper rest due to having to work through all of this. I don't have a choice. I keep telling myself one day at a time and trying to stay positive.

Question: so you said that your nausea was better without the steroids? So the day of your infusion they didn’t give you any steroids at all? I go for chemo tomorrow (my 3rd round) and we still haven’t gotten my nausea under control yet. I get massive migraines from Zofran and Aloxi, had an anaphylactic reaction to Kytril, and the Cinvanti was like taking nothing at all! I have the Zyprexa and Reglan at home but if I can’t keep it down and I lose my cookies over it then what’s the use? Lol. Also, do you have any tricks to taking the anti nausea meds so you don’t taste how bad they are which makes you lose your cookies?

Still watching the video but wanted to comment before I forget. You need to talk to your oncologist about the steroid mix up. You may be right the steroid may be making you sick, so that is something important for them to know as they may want to try a different one. The other thing though is, the steroid suppresses your immune system allowing the chemo to do its work... if you took less or missed some or whatever the chemo may not work as effectively, so again they need to know that. Another thing, if you get that feeling again of having a cold/flu on top of the chemo and especially if you have body pain.. call your doctor. I know they said wait until you get a particular body temperature showing up on the thermometer, but screw that. If you have body pain and an all over feeling like you have a 'flu' kind of feeling you almost certainly do. Your immune system is suppressed so it will not react the way it normally does at first. You will just feel very ill and usually there is physical pain involved especially in the hips and long bones of the thighs or that is where mine always was. That is the body trying to create white cells to fight the infection. If your immune system gets really low it wont produce a body temp until the infection is really severe and then it may spike. I once had a fever of 105 (as high as the thermometer read according to my head onc nurse) But the infections that caused it didnt announce their presence until they had spread quite a lot so I didnt even know except for having leg/hip bone pain. And the last thing I wanted to mention, the anxiety. Girl tell your doctor about this and directly ask for a benzodiazepine to help. It will make you feel better even if you just save it for infusion days. This is chemo, you arent just sick, you DESERVE every comfort measure possible. Dont procrastinate asking for whatever help they can give you. You are strong but this isnt about being strong or not, its about survival and avoiding any additional suffering that you dont need to experience. All that poking is giving you PTSD already, its easy to read in what your saying such as REALLY not wanting to sit down in that chair. Fight or flight kicks in and there is no option, you want to live so you sit in the chair.. but that is what causes the PTSD, because your brain is saying, lets get the hell out of here, and you cant listen to it. Im surprised they dont have a picc line in your arm so they dont have to keep poking you, they should and you can ask for one of those too. There is no point in getting poked half to death another 3-5 rounds of chemo. When they put in a picc they will knock you out with conscious sedation so it really doesnt even hurt nor will you remember it. Oh yeah and you 'did your time' letting the inexperienced nurse poke you repeatedly. If she is the one up to set up your line, at most give her a couple of chances and then request she stop and get the nurse who is good at it. You let her use you as practice enough, YOU should not have to be terrified because she isnt good at doing it yet. She will get better, it will take time and practice, but in the meantime spare yourself being her pin cushion. Her lack of experience isnt your fault either, so dont make yourself deal with it to spare her feelings YOU are the one going through this, not her.

Ophiuchus Oversoul thank you so much!! I will definitely mention about the steroid - explain what I did. Hopefully it hasn’t had any negative impact! Thank you for the info around the anxiety - I will see how I am this time and make a decision. I have always had anxiety to some degree - sometimes worse than others but have always chosen not to medicate for it. It’s a difficult decision for me to make - but if there was something for chemo day that would be great actually!! So thank you. Thank you for this really helpful comment x enjoy breakfast ❤️

I re-read my comment and thought, holy crap I sound bossy as hell this morning! Sorry about that.. I just see so much of what I went through in this last post of yours and I know I had no real idea of what to expect or what to do about so much. In retrospect I realized there were a lot of ways I could have avoided some things like the inexperienced nurses getting in their practice on me and such. :D Now I will give a nurse a couple two maybe 3 attempts and then I ask for someone else if that one doesnt offer to get someone to help. I appreciate their persistence and desire to learn, but it hurts and hey Im not going to add to my own misery beyond a certain point even to help a new person out. Even the nice ones have to get practice ,just not all on one person! :D Anyways, Im sorry if my comment comes acrossed as bossy or pushy.. your doing a fantastic job and I love seeing how clear headed and strong you look today, you have got this thing by the balls, you can do it, you ARE doing it!
