More importantly, how an American prison guard, with power of life and death, befriended and nurtured his prisoner , representing the kindness and glory of the American people despite their despotic and evil rulers, corrupted by money and power . A most beautiful people governed by an evil government of the special interests.

English is his 4th language, a language learned during incarceration. His grammar and syntax is flawless. Mohamedou is an extremely intelligent, gracious man.

I was amused by his fascination with American TV and music. Actually, I was humbled. How could this be? Could I be as gracious, truthful and open as he is?

Let's not forget the 39 prisoners still caged at Guantanamo Bay, held for over 20 years without charge. Let's not forget the plight of Aafia Siddiqui.

Especially when they have done nothing wrong. Bush and Blair need to be held accountable for war crimes.

I just watched it myself. Like you, I took a risk clicking on this link. And am in tears, to see such a humble man who has had a his 14 years of life stolen from him and his family yet he shows so much humility. And to the guard, others can learn from you. These two men deserve this bond and friendship. And I have a feeling they will be friends for life. Am happy I watched this.

This is really an inspiring story. After being falsely accused, incarcerated and tortured he still has such respect and admiration for our culture and even our people. My country has made egregious mistakes.... unforgivable mistakes. I have much respect for this man and I wish him the best.

He's been through so much. He's a national hero here but until recently the government was refusing to issue a passport and civil documents for him. It's changed now and he's always positive.

The prayer scene in the tiny cell was epic with all the prisoners saying the prayer together. Most powerful scene of in the movie. Brilliant story. What a man.

The light came from his lord and the lord of the universe nobody can give you contentment in this life except ☝🏽. He had pure faith in him, and the ever merciful calmed his heart.

For some reason this didn't surprise me at all, according to this video, the guy was apparently innocent, and the guard was smart enough to realize that, how can you not feel sympathy for someone who is being unjustly detained, and how can you not be thankful for your prison guard treating you with respect like a human being, it all adds up if you ask me

Amen to that. You are absolutely right. Knowledge is free, we should all educate ourselves and not rely on media, not all truth is revealed to us.

The boubou he was given is brand new. It's shiny because there is a special process to make it that way. The fabric is a cotton silk jacquard, like table cloth. After all the sewing and embroidery is done, the cloth is dipped in a water and gum acacia blend and hung to dry. It is then "frapped", hit with a wooden mallet to make it shiny. I have been to Mauritania twice.

I was teary eyed the entire video, it's the torture of another human for years, the story of friendship, kindness and how despite a painful experience a man can laugh again and still trust another human being again

There are many like him some got out and most are still suffering, not just in US. US learned these techniques and the "terrorism" excuse to detain people from dictatorships they (US) helped to install in the M.E. to control the whole region. In his story, he explains that he was tortured by Americans, Jordanians, and Egyptians and probably Moroccan military, in Guantanamo. Those governments are all against humanity. And we should unite against injustice.

It is called love. You can see it on their faces. They are brothers.

He deserves a lot of money for what he’s gone through !!! People are sick. Prisoners or Not you shouldn’t treat people bad like that!!!

My brother my mother both died when I was in custody... heartbreaking... what an astonishing human being... can't watch all of this clip in one go...

Its kinda surreal seeing how they have so much fun together after what he has gone through being a captive there in Steve being a guard. So amazing to see that they seem to be really friends or dont have hate against each other.

Crying out of happiness, I am so touched by this documentary. Beautiful friendship, beautiful human beings.

Extraordinary American soldier, a man able to empathize through artificial barriers constructed by frightened Americans who carry a fierce need to control and dominate the ‘other.’ We need more like this.

This story is so refreshing to see two different cultures becoming friends in such an unexpected way. Proof that humanity is alive and well. one race the human race

This is a great story, this guy has amazing mental strength and is able to "at least" put on a smiley positive front....unfortunately, this is not the case for many others in his position who committed suicide or are suffering serious mental health issues because of their experience.

Mr. James, if you mean the three who were said to have committed suicide, this is incorrect for many reasons, how three prisoners committed suicide at the same time. Also, one of those described as suicide, his name is (Manea Al-Otaibi). It contains torture. I do not know why all this secrecy over this incident. This is a disgrace to America. I do not mean the American people, but the government and the American law that deafens our ears to justice and that it is a state of institutions. With Regards

In Mauritania, south of Morocco, Mali 🇲🇱...lives desert people , they’re different, have different life style similar to Tuareg people. They don’t eat heavy meals unless it’s necessary, especially meat and vegetables , they don’t drink or use water unless it’s necessary. This is how they survive for centuries in such hard nature and circumstances. The only thing I don’t understand about Mauritanian : why they don’t eat fish since they have many in the Atlantic Ocean , in Morocco the locals eat it to help save more camels 🐪 . This is now became a past for Moroccan Saharan people, they eat everything now since everything is provided from the other areas of Morocco but old generation still lives as their ancestors . I hope Mauritania will gets better soon.

Not this one ! I eat one meal a day. And it is not a 3 or 4 course. I might eat a Sweet in the morning. Or a small snack in the middle of the day. I have always been that way. Where most people here are not. They think they have to have three meals a day. I grew up poor with a single divorced mother. Never had that luxary. My eating habits have always remained the same. But hey peacan pie is my favorite pie 😋

I watched his interview with Dr. Jordan B. Peterson,such a wonderful person. The horrors he endured yet he still manages to smile.

It’s amazing to hear how the guard looks up to Mohamedou. What an incredible story.

They are both wonderful young men who meet each other in this world, and maybe in the hereafter. Thanks for sharing

I love these two men and their friendship..

Heartbreaking. We in the US have so much to answer for. 😢 A beautiful story.

Great story. What shocked me the most is that he was detained +15 years

I met him this year when he told his story for my class. He is an inspiration and and one of the kindest people i have ever met.

His name Mouhamed Sallahi his from my country Mauritania and we were so happy when he got out of prison 🤍💭

There is strength, love and forgiveness behind those smiles, it crosses us all. 难以置信

Such a strong friendship forged through hardships

just in case any people didn't know that he's (mohammedou) having a book about his journey into the Guantanamo. The book is : Guantanamo diary.

Soul brothers, they even look alike. Must read his diary. One can meet the most extraordinary people in the most extraordinary places.

That guard is a genuine human in my opinion,I like genuine humans,big fan of human decency

His story is very touching and despite of what happened to him, he still has the ability to smile and forgive those who had wronged him. I wish him the best.

It almost looks like Mars

I never in all my years thought I'd see a prison guard and truly believe that they are a lovely, kind, thoughtful, precious individual. But here we are.

Sometimes i feel the world is full of hate, then i find a video like this one😭😍 man it makes me hopeful, we need love and friendships in this world of ours.

That something so beautiful can grow from something so despicable, there's some hope.... right? 🤞🏽
