Great demo, Rob. I have both a 50 MKI and the 100 watt MKII 1x12 combo and love them both. I used to use the 50 at rehearsals on the Crunch setting and would push it for leads by stacking a Keeley Modded SD-1 into a KM DS-1 and loved the tone and versatility that gave me. They are such great amps and I DO NOT MISS lugging around a heavy as hell tube head or combo anymore. My ancient back is much happier as a result...

Just now got around to seeing this. Those are some great sounds, Rob, and it also reminds me that I may never get through playing with my Katana's settings. The thing that really interested me was the way you suggest to use the volume and master. I read somewhere along the line that it was best to leave the volume nearly full open and control the output with the master set to, well, whatever my ears could tolerate :D, so that's been my method. I'm going to try it your way and see what I think. Thanks!

Great fun as always Rob. I'd like to get a Katana when I get back to working. I have newer a Peavey bandit that I love right now. It's funny to me that even though I'm an experienced player I tried your settings from your "Bandit Tone" video for the drive channel. It really brings out the best of that amp with a good overdrive pedal in front of it. That's my setting now. The advantage with the Katana I believe would be having the pedalboard integrated into the amp and accessed with the pedal that Boss makes. Quick and easy set-up and tear down. Stay safe out there Rob.

I started out playing solid state amps. Then I discovered the dynamics of tube amps, have owned a few, am currently using a tube amp and always searching for pedals to get the sounds I want. I have been fancying myself to the idea of getting another solid state due to their complexity of clean to various distortions in one package as I like to play everything from clean, funk, blues rock, grunge, nu-metal, hardcore, metal. I love people who can really play guitar go through a solid state and make it sound nearly just as magical which proves it's not the equipment, but the player.

I decided to grab a mkII 2x12 Katana in mid-September to have something to do over the winter while being in lockdown at home. Sold my old Fender Mustang amp a week later. Poor thing didn't stand a chance against the Katana. What a phenomenal amp.

Wow i own a mustang too, which version did you sold? I'm going to buy Katana but can't really decide between Artist OR 100/212, any insight?

@@KVJworld Couldn't tell you at this point, it was one of the cheaper entry models. The regular 212 has most of the bells and whistles of the Artist, so unless you need those specific features (that I couldn't even name tbh) you'll do fine with either the 100 1x12 or 2x12. As for sound differences, can't really comment. I've only ever played my 212. I still think it sounds great.

@@imCurveee that's cool man. I really looked up to Artist series, also it's the only available unit near me. Haven't tried it yet. I just don't want to miss the stereo vibes (if significant) because of the two speakers. Beyond that, the Artist is much more superior (flagship speaker, solo knob, contour knob). Unfortunately the 100 1x12 is a big no for me, i want the best experience my budget can buy.

The Roland clean tone w/ Metal Zone is my current go-to signal chain on my ME-80 (which I suspect contains the same technology as the Katana line). Roll back the gain almost to zero and boost all EQ settings just past noon, and the tone is like a good backscratch.

Agree, I bought a Katana 100 2 x12 combo this week, tbh it isnt as good as my Marshall Combo, BUT, I dont like to play that at low volume, and it isnt great on the valves. The other Amp I recently picked up was a Vox MV-50 Clean, omg, through a good cabinet, that really does respond like a Valve Amp, everyone should have one as a backup, my Son is using that and a multi fx, in his room, is well chuffed. I bought my Katana on Ebay, everyone should own one, especially if you have a good valve Amp.

Update 1 year later, now using the Katana in a Indy/Pop Covers Band, which the Katana is ideal for, as I need different tones, fantastic cleans, great Amp, for AC/DC covers, the Marshall still does it, but the Katana is the working amp, did take a while to get it setup, using the tone studio though.

Thanks for the video, I have the 50 w but I haven't used it much. The 50 dont have the presence , one thing I've noticed is the strings are very sensitive. I have got some good sounds out of it but I like my other amp better so I use it more. Idk maybe it's the learning curve, I'm a start using it more and try these settings. Another thing I didn't like is when I try other people's sounds the volume can go up super high like blowing my windows out difference. Being where I live I have to watch making to much noise. Great video I cant wait to to try these settings. I wish I still had all my pedals to try on it but I should of got the 100 w one. I do alot of playing at night is why I got the 50. I have a few different amps and I lie the amps withmad shit in it but I'm seeing the options paralyzed shit sometimes , I like the simple having a few main sounds shit. Really I just have to look for my book and read the instructions because I have no clue what the color shit means but I greatly appreciate this video. Another reason I have not used my boss as much because it dont work with my ipad but I got it hooked to my old phone now... I had to buy an attachment tho and my looper dont work on it bcuz it has no looping effect.

I have a MkI Katana 100 and it's superb - loving hearing what you do with it - just wondering how much you've played with the Boss Tone Studio software? It's an absolutely fantastic bit of kit, so much power - the parametric EQs, Noise Gates, 100s more effects, Acoustic Guitar emulator. The only issue is that I wish there were more preset libraries to download and play with, but incredibly impressed with the modelling on this amp.

My katana is great. The Waza however is AMAZING. I just had a SSS at home and I can do guitar simulations and have a semihollow with humbuckers and solidbody with hu,buckers. If only they could set up a way to be able to have jam tracks with the Waza Air then it would be the ultimate practice machine.

Great video! And I like the idea of how you work around your problems e.g. just finding an amp that all stores have in stock. I wonder about the sound difference between the 50W and the 100W... If you were to only use it at home, would you stim go for the 100W?

My best friend has the 50 I have the 100. The 50 sounds more ruckus/gritty and my 100 sounds a bit warmer and smoother. He got his first and we were just amazed at the sounds coming out of it. I only got the 100 because it has the ability to direct out to a PA.

Thanks Rob! I bought a Boss Katana MkII last month and I stopped using my full rig (Orange Dark Terror and Line 6 Helix LT into a 1x12 V30 cab) because the Katana is soooo practical, you just plug and play whatever you want, no big deal for the tweaking.
