I'm about half way through the ebook and have to say that it's a must read for anyone who follows Jay. It's well written and full of captivating anecdotes. The narrative flows smoothly and I find it difficult to put down. For anyone who hasn't yet ordered one...you really don't want to miss out!

Thank you so much for the free copy of your book Jay. I've been a silent follower of yours for a good 2 years now and have never commented before, I'm even a little nervous hahah, but your incredible offer made my eyes water up and just seeing the way you expressed your reasons behind giving out the code... Just so sincerely authentic. It must've not been easy either, so thank you a million times for that! I have a really rough 3 years behind me and I've resonated with your story on so many levels since I started following you and I just want you to know that your daily vlogs were even on some days the only thread holding me together to keep me going and you kept me having something to look forward to. I've been "out of the dumps" for a couple of months and now I'm stuck unemployed in Finland with my family, paying rent out of my savings for my place in Paris hahah it seems like this rollercoaster never ends! I've lived in Paris for a few years and I've even seen you pass the front of my door on my street up in Montmartre in one of your videos, had to screenshot that! I worked at a well known hostel that did bike tours so who knows maybe you even know some of my old colleagues too. I did nighttime reception myself so doubt we ever met. 🙃 Anyways sorry for the ramblings, it's hard not to get caught up in emotions these days. I can't wait to read my copy of your book and most importantly just hopefully be able to get back to Paris soon. You've given me a whole new inspiration and fire about the place, that's something very easily forgotten when you're going through struggles. I almost threw it all away, then found your channel. I'm an artistic soul myself and know how "easy" it is to get anything accomplished in that field, but that's just how we are I guess. Do we have any other choice? 🙂 I have this secret wish of maybe meeting up with you someday and be able to call you a friend heheh ☺️ so lets hope the world gets a chance to heal sooner than later. Aww, thanks Janina! I'm happy you finally left a comment =) And I'm sorry that you've had to bail on Paris for the time being but I'm glad you can be with family. Here's hoping that these months, or this year, however long it takes passes quickly enough that we can get back to enjoying the city without feeling like it's totally left us behind. In a way I feel like I'm going to appreciate living here so much more for having gone through this and taken a forced break from it than I otherwise would have. We'll have to arrange some meet-ups again when that time comes 🥂 Keep heart and keep chasing those dreams. They may not come easy, but I hope that they do come in time and that they were worth every bit of struggle they required to achieve 🥳 Let me know how you like the book too!

Congratulations, Jay! I've only been around on your channel for a year or so, but I just have to say the more I see and hear from you the more I admire and respect you. I hope you do enjoy it! It's definitely not a deep dive into my time with Mercy Ships but has the formative core throughout. If you're thinking of volunteering for them I'd say do it, but start with a short term visit first (if you're thinking of going long-term). I think it's probably best in short bursts haha. Stay safe out there!

This is so wonderful and so hopeful! I was in the middle of my morning yoga when the video premiered, and then yesterday my son and I had to go to the grocery store. Normally, that would no be a big deal, but we are in a new normal now, huh. I’m trying to figure out how to get the book from my phone to my Kindle app... I’ll work it out. I read it in about a day, I had a hard time putting it down! I really enjoyed it. I think anyone who is struggling right now and not sure how to get where they want to be in life would benefit from reading your book. I’ll review on Goodreads when I can.

Although I've lost my work and it probably won't be back for a very long time, I'm a musician, I am getting a small government stipend so I'm not destitute. Haha, today I went swimming in a sea cave with a massively scary dark part and an undercurrent pushing us dangerously close to barnacled walls... and I happened to be the first one, at the front of our gang. [Facepalm] All I could think of was a giant Jules Verne octopus emerging from the underwater cavern and the phrase 'Sea of the Unknown'!

Question: is the Back packer suppose to be getting the book anytime soon?

Definitely thinking about it. I've been recording a version for a sick friend who can't really get up much right now and it's been a lot of fun. Just gotta make sure that the quality is good enough in the end.

Hi Jay, After living in Europe for a few years, how do you feel about the creative environment in Europe, which consists of a much older Western civilization versus creativity in USA, which also form a big part of our modern Western civilization?. Do you think one can be more motivated to be creative based on one's affinity with certain places? I would think there would be more opportunities to be creative in USA than in Europe. I would be interested to purchase a signed copy from you personally, if I get to meet you in a nice cafe in Paris.

Hey Wendy! I think creativity is different for everyone - and certainly plays out in different ways depending on where you end up. I'm not sure any given place is any more creative than the other, but some places serve as greater inspiration than others and I find Paris to be very inspiring =)

Hey Jay, this is awesome news. I feel like I'm in a similar circumstance as you were 10+ years ago. Obviously there isn't a recession, but I just graduated from college with a business related degree (2019), and then I lived in my college town for additional year working in a 9-5 office job that I absolutely hated. I've always been a travel person, interested in languages and cultures, etc, so after quitting that job only a month or so ago, I feel like I need to pursue a real adventure. I'm thinking the Peace Corps and would love your thoughts on leaving the "office life" behind temporarily to pursue something as big as living in a third-world country for two years. Congrats again!

I hope you enjoy the book! I'm all for ditching the 9-5 haha. Sounds like you're going through a really formative time. The Peace Corps are one of those things that people either love or hate, I don't think there's much middle ground. My cousin did it and loved it, and I met a lot of their volunteers in the field in West Africa. They've been evacuated now, so I think things are on hold with them for a bit, but it would definitely merit looking into.
