It is clearly a lovely car but I do think that weight is an increasing issue with so many such cars. It is always a massive and expensive challenge to reduce weight without using exotic materials. Given that so much R&D spending has shifted from I.C.E. cars, I can’t see this changing.

I was thinking this also however I felt with the M2 it put it on par similar to a Ford Mustang but I would much rather have the M2 for the sporty dynamics. It is also quite nice on the road when a car has a bit of weight behind it. The Cayman is lighter but then you don't have the bigger boot/back seats along with the refinement. I do agree new legislation and safety is increasing the weight of all cars it seems....I hope that trend will slow going forward as manufacturers learn more around how to work around it 👍

It’s a shame you didn’t get to drive the car ! A few points from someone who owns the current m2 . The car is a completely different animal to the 240i out performs it in every aspect other than price 😅 Performance wise it’s much more capable than the new rs3 and a45s which some might consider its competitors . In straight line terms it would leave any 718 ( minus rs ) in the dust. And hang with the 4.0 on any road . Am very impressed with this car . The front end is mega the only thing I could compare it to is the 992 gts I drove not long before . This partly down to the 275 front sections. The looks are subjective of course but it has great road presence and gets allot of attention

Thank you for sharing Luke. I agree and I hope in the future I will have the chance to drive the car although this is up to BMW UK or a willing subscriber. That is really interesting to here your thoughts and I am familiar with a lot of the Caymans and have a soft spot for GTS models too. It definitely surprised me as a passenger and I really enjoyed the experience as I was not too sure what to expect. It felt a big step up from the old M2 and far more refined with it feeling on par with the likes of the new M3 which I have spent time driving. Many congrats on yours and many happy miles ahead I am sure 🎉

At todays prices my Golf R. Price no object I would love to live with this M2...its the latest technology, rear wheel drive, practical, refined, great amount of power and the last of its kind. I have been looking at getting a mustang potentially and for me this sits better for me with it being closer to the likes of a Porsche Cayman. I would have to drive the M2 to really get an understanding and I hope to have the opportunity in the future. Just need the likes and support on videos such as this if this is to be via BMW themselves otherwise I will search for a kind owner/subscriber of the channel 👍

I've just ordered an M2. I currently have a '22 M240i which is a brilliant car but a little dull in a couple of ways. If anyone is in any doubt of the difference, they are 2 completely different cars. That was evident in the first 30 seconds of a test drive. The 240 is very quick. The M2 is shocking - even coming from the 240. You're right about keeping on your toes. It feels like it's trying to kill you all the time. This will be my first full fat M car after a string of M-lights. Perhaps that why there is a 1200 mile brake in period. Not for the engine. Just so I don't plough into the nearest bus queue. :) My biggest gripe is the colour choice. This is an M car and it has less interesting choices than pretty much any standard car. Look at the new X2 options. I've gone Alpine in the end. Seems a waste as the metallic are no cost options and alpine is non-metallic. No choice though really. Black is too gangster for me; baby blue - nahhh; red - I'm not brave enough and I have BG now. Any frozen is a big no no because of maintenance.

I test drove an M240i and loved it, put an order in, a month later the salesman offered me an M2 test drive and it was night and day difference, I cancelled my M240i order on the spot and have an M2 coming in May, it is another level completely and I got a decent finance deal, can't wait

@@thymme7508 Yes. Absolutely. Just had its first service at 20k miles. It really is a brilliant car. Mine has the old screen and buttons which many still want but it looked immediately dated. I like tech so felt a bit cheated as It hadn’t been delivered and the dash was updated. A really fantastic car though. I’d recommend it to anyone. Used though as new prices have gone crazy. Mine was 50k with a bit of discount, almost fully loaded, 2 years ago. I speced one the same recently…. £60k 😮 The dealer is giving me £37k for mine so it will be a bargain for someone.

With the latest bidy design and engine I would say it should be better than the out going model efficiency wise on a cruise. I'd have to try one to be sure though 🤔

My test car was on 500m and had an average MPG of........... 16 🙂. It's a test drive car though so to be expected. I expect late 20s in real world.
