I absolutely love a lot of “British humour” but its tiring see the amount of people who try to seem intellectually superior by announcing how much they appreciate it over anything else. This sketch is actually pretty formulaic and tired, just enjoy it if you enjoy it but dont decree it as the best ever just because it reminds you of ‘Four Candles’
I highly applaud Harry Enfield in this sketch. Although he barely manages to keep his face straight, he and Ronnie really sell this 3 minute gag and you genuinely believe that this could have been in the two ronnies repertoire.
At 01:53 Harry Enfield is struggling hard not to laugh, knowing that he is going to ask, " And, how big is your dongle?" I spent 20 years in England starting in 1956 and believe me the Two Ronnies kept me appreciating the British humor including that of Tommy Cooper and a few others who showed that comedy could be kept clean and not so offensive.
Harry Enfield struggling not to laugh. Now that's a sign of endearment. What a legend. And it's goodnight from him. 😢❤️🕯🕯🕯🕯

@Shabda Sound I'd say that it was your mind that is the unclean issue. This sketch was well written and simply made fun of the names/processes of some brands - a little old fashioned 'tongue in cheek' light hearted humor. Sad that your mind went in that direction rather than appreciate the dry wit. I hope it didn't 'hurt your feelings' or cause you discomfort.
@tomburley
Жыл бұрын
@Shabda Sound Well, since a dongle is a plug in computer interface and one requires the correct sized version to carry out the specific task the question is How are you so dirty minded that you had to leap to the thought line your tiny mind did? Since no foul language or crude phraseology was used the dirtiness is only inferred by the watcher.

RIP Ronnie Corbett (1930-2016). A legend in the comedy world, you will be sorely missed.
Back in the day, my mum was involved working with barker and his creative team. The brainstorming sessions would go on into the small wee hours with everyone in fits of hilarity. No alcohol required. Nice to watch this scene which I'd never seen before, I imagine Ronnie B would have approved. Though, had he been around to write it, I'm sure it would have been legendary. No. The 'Classic' British humor was the original 'Four Candles' version. Which worked because every item being discussed was something that people genuinely asked for in a hardware shop. This doesn't compare at all because it's ridiculous.
@Vinterfrid
Жыл бұрын
@@hellfirepictures No, that is not correct, You're assuming that everyone who watch the "four candles sketch" is familiar with British hardware shops - and most of the world does not understand most of those typical British references. It's quite a difference to e.g. Monty Python or Fawlty Towers - those have a universal humor you don't have to be a Brit to understand (and laugh at).

Genius. A very intelligent pastiche of his own sketch 20 years on and brilliantly repurposed.
Pure. Comedy. Gold. A modern date version, in this sketch anyway, of the classic pairing of The Two Ronnies. Different eras providing different, but great comedy.
This really does feel like a Two Ronnies sketch for the modern day. Good job Ronnie!
As soon as the word DONGLE is mentioned Harry does his very best not to break character ( but, a, little smerk shows) & yet another shows when Ronnie says my Mrs has seen quite a few in her time. Harry is on the point of bursting out. A brilliant sketch well acted out ❤💕it
that is very good quality writing, you could see Harry Enfield trying to keep a straight face. Never even knew this show existed
It's quite remarkable how many food based puns they could come up with for consumer electronics.
It does show how much work went into 2R's sketches & how hard it is to keep a straight face. So cleaver.
