My Best Work Yet
This tool chest, made for my senior thesis, is made from American cherry and curly maple and took 13 weeks to complete. It was made using traditional joinery methods, and is one of the six pieces in my "Heritage Collection". Hopefully you enjoy seeing it come together from start to finish in this video!

In a world of +30min would working videos (which I still love), it's nice to stumble on a bite sized video that still has beautiful craftsmanship 🤌🏻🤌🏻

Nicely done. I'd love to see more of the sketches you made that resulted in the final design. Beautiful work. Keep it up!

It's a UK company called "fine box hardware". Thanks for watching 👍
First video of yours that I’ve seen and so, any comparatives would be meaningless. However, the piece is excellent. Some parts may not be to be taste - but, then you are not building it for me. As always, taste is personal, skill is universal. For me, the dovetails on the cabinet detract and not add. I do like the through wedged M&T as a design feature and think that the stylish dovetails on the drawers work well as a design feature - if not structurally necessary. Apart from that point about the carcass dovetail, I think the piece is well designed and well proportioned. I’ve been woodworking for well over 45 years and think I can build just about anything. However, my weakness is probably design and proportions. Of course, I can copy, I can develop another design but truly original? (Does anything truly original exist anyway?). My favourite finish for almost all interior pieces is Natura Onecoat. I got into that having watched the video from the Wood Whisperer late last year when it won his review of all 2 pack hard wax oils. There is nothing I don’t like about Natura from the design of its cans to buttery application to the fact that it is cured enough in an hour or so for me to carefully take it off my bench and prevents dust spoiling the finish. All that frees up my bench and means I don’t have to go back a step. And, Onecoat means exactly that. It’s not cheap per can but per square yard, I find it really good value. It all depends upon species and even the slab, but I can usually get 73 square yards or more from their 1.3 litre (1 litre of Part A and 0.3 litre of hardener). Oh and subscribed.

Wow thank you so much for your thoughts! I will definitely look into that hardwax oil. Currently I use Rubio, but I'm always open to new techniques. Have a blessed day!

@@SamFifieldWorkshop please do give it a go. You’ll make your own mind up but, having used hundreds of pounds worth of Rubio on thousands of pounds worth of European oak, I can tell you that I wouldn’t go back to it. Natura is cheaper per litre; goes further and the design of the cans and the product mean drips on the can are very unlikely; it doesn’t skin over - so you can get out of the can every last drop you pay for.
