In my experience the best charity shop finds are invariably classical. I rarely find anything decent in rock and pop but for a lot of people classical vinyl is an almost total mystery. It's not my normal listening material but i find it fun to learn about the collecting side of it.

Great summing up of Oxfam Music Martin. In the last 5 years I’ve found NEU debut, James Browns ‘The Payback’ & This Heat’s ‘Deceit’ combined they cost me about £70.00. If you can find any of those (almost impossible) then that would be about £325.00. I bought numerous dance 12” that would be £50.00 each for a third of Discogs median. They’re grading is fantastic.

Hi Gavin! So sorry to hear about your mum but how lovely to hear about you going through your mums LPs and discovering new music, I bet it’s nice to see another side of your mum and see what she was into back in the day, kinda seeing another side of her that you never knew about (maybe). Iv said this before with other people about old photos, our next generation is never going to go into the attic and find old photos or negatives from when we were young, we just have to wish and hope they know the password to our online accounts. It’s the same with music they will never know what we were into, as everything has been streamed or downloaded, they will have no idea who you really were and what your personality was.

What helps when looking for records is a good memory for album covers and bands. I have dug through many hundreds of records to find that one gem, it makes it all worth while. I'm happy you found some bargains Martin. This year I think I've had one of my better years and got some top music.Good luck in your hunt. And Frank Marino/Paul Kossof are both exceptional players. Cheers.

Oh mate that sucks, I did say that on pretty much most cases I do only get f**k all. The records I showed apart from few I got the past couple of years. In most case I only got what I got is because the person selling didn’t know what they had. Knowledge is power 👊 Oh I’m going to try and enter competition soon, hopefully, the 10 records I heard a 100 times. ✌️

Hi Martin, great vid and really excellent finds. Lady Luck clearly was nearby on some of those ones. Fleetwood Mac cost me £38.50 more last weekend in Bognor - although I did get a VG for £3 a few years back which that will now replace. As a lifelong Portsmouth resident, I can safely say I've never heard of Dr Brown. Rings no bells at all. Surprising considering they they a fair few releases as per Discogs. Eyes will be kept peeled for those.

Adore Mahogany Rush and Frank Marino. Just did a ranking vid on them. So underrated. Peter green is a wonderful guitarist. Have a fair few bits by him and some early FM too. I rarely upgrade nowadays. Once I have an Lp I just keep it rather than improve on it. In the end if I want to listen to crackle free stuff there’s always streaming. Lovely stuff Martin.

Fantastic finds, Martin - of course all absolute £££ bargains but most importantly you appreciate the music. I have a Lydia Pense & Cold Blood album titled Cold Blood, a US pressing on ABC that I also picked up locally recently. The Dr. Brown albums look interesting - will check those out. The Manfred Mann's Earth Band albums from the 70's are all pretty good - if you don't have it check out 'Solar Fire' from '73 as that might be most up your street.

Hi Martin. Other Martin here. Excellent video sums alot up really about covers/lyrics/notes you can usually work out whats what and/or cheat and look on discogs. If they are a quid it's always worth taking a chance and suprise element is a buzz I'll be honest. I've a scruffy(ish) copy ofThen play on its looks battered but plays fine I prefer Peter Green Mac I can't listen to rumours anymore it's just so overplayed. I'd be interested have you any terrible covers that turned out amazing too? It'd be a good follow up. I could do my best one quid finds over the years but that might be showing off a tad.......
