    Hi Bel! I have been trying to grow hoya at my condo in Malaysia and have been having problems with them. Didn't know it was due to the soil that I've been using which was coco husk. It was heavily advertised on Shopee and online shop as the best soil for Hoyas here. However, when I used it on my hoyas, their roots kept rotting and didn't dry out well since I don't have an outdoor setup. I stumbled upon your video and tried your soil method and now the hoyas that I managed to salvage from rotting roots and root mealies are growing well! Thank you so much for your video and I really appreciate you taking the time to shoot and upload it to help others like me 💖

    You are very accurate when you say that we have to know our growing zones. I live in Canada, and I have to bring my hoyas inside when the weather turns cold. I make a mix of orchid mix, cactus mix, potting mix, perlite, vermiculite and charcoal for my hoyas. It seems to work miracles. We have to study our hoyas and watch them very carefully to learn.

    Many thanks for sharing your potting mix for your Hoyas! Very enjoyable and informative video. Your beautiful plants are obviously thriving! I wish I could grow my Hoyas outside but here in Charlotte, NC we get winter temperatures that will kill them. Some get to be outside in the Spring and the Summer and they love it! Happy growing! 👌🪴🥰

    Thanks Peggy for leaving me much positive feedback! All our growing environments are different but the conditions hoyas need are same, so we do need to adjust accordingly. I am happy to share and hope able to help all fellow Hoya growers in any small way possible 🥰🌸🌱

    In awe of your little paradise. Is your plant area unroofed? What happens to that area when it rains?

  • @BelsHoyas

    @BelsHoyas

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi my area is at a sheltered balcony area, however when it rains heavily, the rain comes in easily and the plants get rained on. The hoyas are used to the rain and shine, this is why my media needs to be especially airy and loose to prevent against root rot.

    Thanks for sharing. My hoyas are outside under the back porch & on the fruit trees bcz i havent got a makeshift greenhouse or shade for them as yet. I live in The Bahamas & sometimes it is very humid.

    You are welcome Annetta! For humid area, this mix would be good as it drains well and allow the hoys roots to breath

    Great video and beautiful hoyas. How often do you water hoyas that are in soil and how often do you water hoyas which are in coco husks? Thanks

    Hi MaryAnn, thank you! 95% of my Hoyas are in this potting mix, i water all of them daily, unless if it rains then I skip one day. Pls take note my environment is outdoor, hot, sunny and windy. If indoor, it’s advisory to check the soil to be dry and pot to be light to before watering. I think likely will be every 2-4 days.

    do you ever put cuttings directly into the potting mix?

  • @BelsHoyas

    @BelsHoyas

    No, I find that it’s very difficult to gauge when it starts rooting as I can’t see it and thus also very difficult to adjust watering needs. I only root in water or moss.

    My microphylla was in moss for a long time. I just transferred it to soil but the leave feel soft like it’s not absorbing the water. What do you recommend

    For a big leaf Hoya like that, I usually would root in water first till there are roots. I don’t have much success propagating directly in soil You can check out my video for rooting Top tips for easy rooting Hoya for propagation! kzread.info/dash/bejne/X3eCl66fppnbk9I.html

    Tks.. Can you share also the pesticide & fertilizer you use for your beautiful Hoyas & how to apply them. I'm a beginner in Hoya but already falling love with them ☺. When you watering, do you water the leaves also?

  • @BelsHoyas

    @BelsHoyas

    Hi there, for pesticide actually I use quite a few like miticide, anti fungal and anti mealy bugs, maybe I need to make a separate video on this topic to share 😅 for fertiliser it’s a regular orchid fertiliser with granules and you add water to make a solution type. N,P, K 21,21,21 but I dilute it more than the recommended dose and use once weekly, hope that helps! ☺️🌿🌸
