The jar, styled with wood around it, looked beautiful with the flowers-because the wood brought out the rich color in center of the flowers. Before you styled them I would’ve said no to the floral.

As a potter, I must warn you about crazing. It is actually a 'break' in the glaze. If you put wet food, greasy food (i.e., dips) in the serving pieces, it will seep into the piece and stain. You need to be careful with crazed pieces The FABULOUS fabric window coverings are custom so yes, handmade, not "homemade". LOVE today's finds!! edit - I think the flowers on the pretty pedestal jar is a decal or transfer. If you scrub or use a chemical to remove it, it could damage the surface.

Disillusionment warning : I once talked to a woman in a thrift store who was a “picker”/ “prop sourcer” for movies and tv , and I told her I thought that would be such a fun job. She said it is …except when you need to find 70s and all you find is 90s…😮. Maybe the way around that is to buy everything from every era!😁

Laura, you have opened my eyes in the ways that I style my home so much. I live at the beach and I love my very rustic coastal style decor. But you have totally shown me that I can mix other styles in and it looks amazing. Everything in my home is handed down or Thrifted except our mattresses. And if I didn’t thrift the piece I used Thrifted or found materials to build it myself. I never would have thought to pick up that little black dog but I love it and I have added pieces from mid-century to Victorian to modern here and there in my home yet still maintaining that rustic beach cottage look. We moved six months ago into our little forever home, and I just finished decorating it about three weeks ago. I took my time and used all the things that bring me joy. I will always be changing things out and enjoying new pieces and letting other pieces go to their new forever home. I cannot thank you enough for showing me how adding brass or other things I would never have thought to add to my decor, because I thought I didn’t like those type of things, but it makes my rustic wood stand out and seem even warmer somehow. A friend of mine , that I hadn’t seen in years ,and her daughter were vacationing in my area so they came by for a visit . Her daughter, who was four the last time I saw them is now a photographer and asked if she could photograph my home for a spread she has been thinking of putting together on California Coastal homes. I literally laughed out loud because I have seen the spreads that she does and they are not of homes full of Thrifted and handmade items. She said that is exactly why she wanted to photograph my home, because she has been wanting to do a piece on how to decorate beautifully without spending a fortune🤯🤭Everything is still in the planning stages but just being asked was so thrilling and such a huge compliment. This NEVER would have happened without you inspiring me to try something new 😁❤️

Hey Laura, I think you should keep the flowers on the apothecary jar. There is something special about keeping an object as is, even if it is not your aesthetic. Preserving an object so it can be enjoyed and admired by future owners who may love the flowers. You can enjoy it as a plain jar, just by turning it around like you did in your video.

I LOVE that you got that full green Mikasa set, even if it was pricey when it was all added up. You did the vintage community a service! If that was left at goodwill, a piece would have been picked up here and there and the entire set would have been separated and never reunited. Even if your profit isn't great, you did a wonderful job for the preservation of vintage so that it can be cherished as it should have been and eventually become an antique!

I don't think they donated their collection. I think the kids did after they passed away. I had to donate some of my mom's things to the German recycling center after she passed. I could only afford to ship 2 shipping containers to the states. I am glad I took all the good stuff as all the glassware and dishes were thrown into boxes to be recycled. I still cried. I tried to give furniture away but everyone wanted the free stuff delivered and I had no car. I shipped all the vintage and antique things to the states.😢 still paying for it. Lol

Hi Laura! "China painting" was a huge fad among American women in the late 19th / early 20th century. They bought porcelain blanks from Europe (such as the Limoges piece you found) and applied enamel decorations over the glaze. They fired them with little portable kilns :) Decorating porcelain was one of the few socially acceptable art forms for women. They began forming societies to sell and exhibit their work. Some copied designs from special publications but many women used porcelain as a canvas to produce original - and very beautiful- art works! Whenever I come across hand-painted porcelain in thrift stores, I always pause to appreciate it :)

The white apothecary was very pretty, but please don't try to remove the daisies. If you don't want to see it just turn it around. The daisies are lovely and I would love it.

There must be a film industry association you could contact. Lots of films made in British Columbia. Set designers would love the Dahlia print Mikala. When I was in Montreal there was a vintage store where I bought some jewelry and the woman who owned it was a set designer and grabbed the vintage stuff they get rid of once the film is done. So much potential there!

Ok so I absolutely loved the opaque jar in white I thought it was stunning. When you turned it around and I saw the enamel flowers my heart fell No you can’t remove enamel but if it’s just hand painted you can. When you styled it just in its own glory no flowers I thought it was simply elegant but when you turned the flower side around I was shocked to discover it in all its glory. It made the vignette to be honest. It looks elegant , natural, and absolutely bounced of the screen. So yes Laura you made this minimalist non fussy glass obsessed girl fall in love with fussy flowers lol. Well done 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻. I am now team flowers😂

Been to Granada as a UW student (go Dawgs) and its a magical place, known for incredible pottery and mosaics with a heavy influence from Morocco and the gypsy culture ("gitanos" are one of the oldest cultures in the world and are nomadic, but originated in the Basque region (border of Spain and France). Go to Gordoba! The entire city is built into the mountain with a beautiful Mosque made of stunning, hand-placed mosaics and you can even enjoy fondu in caves that overlook the palace, Ahambra. While I loved the pottery in Spain, the best I've found was Portugal 🇵🇹 ❤

That apothecary jar is exactly why I love things with a design on only one side. I prefer the plain white myself. But someone else may prefer the flowers, or may want to enjoy both at different times. I would leave it as is and enjoy the versatility. That’s just my two cents worth.😊

I am LOVING this series! I've become an avid thrifter in the past year or so, and I've developed a great love of studio pottery. Today I found a gorgeous ikebana vase, the first one I've found in the wild. The cashier was very intrigued by it, so I got to tell her what I've learned about them.
