My 1st one was a tinker given to me by my grandfather when I was 10 who taught me how to use it. I now am 40+ years old and carry a champ or the handyman. I mostly need a bushcraft tool and both accommodate this need like no other! I still have the tinker given to me as a boy hidden away to protect cause like you sir mine was taken from me. I got it back from the jerk and it means the world to me! If I lose my handyman oh well i actually have a back up.

For the price of upgrading a handyman to the plus model I was able to buy a swiss champ which adds a ruler (fish descaler), an inline phillips screw driver (that will fit where the can opener cant) and a magnifying glass. If you wear glasses you will probably need a magnifying glass to tighten the screws. The swiss champ sits comfortably in my pocket attached to a chain.

The magnifying glass is one of the tools that I miss sometimes. In fact, Christmas is getting closer and so could an Explorer, who knows. :)

Wonderful choice of a Swiss Army knife. It seems to have everything one needs for and edc knife and very little of the "not so used" tools.

Do you mean the magnifying glass? It complements the tweezers and the mini screwdriver when trying to tighten tiny screws of removing tiny splinters. Fish descaler? It has a ruler in inches and cm which is useful for measuring anything you plan on cutting. The phillips screwdriver? How can you call it handyman without a real phillips screwdriver? If you have children you know there will be toys that operate on batteries and the phillips screwdriver is a must.

@@nmende00 No, I like the magnifier...I need the magnifier. I'm talking about those little scrapers, hooks and corkscrew on the backside of the knife. Yeah, I would include the fish scaler too and a 2.5 inch ruler is near useless to me. I would prefer a real philips too, though I have used the knife on several philips screws. My druthers has taken me to the Craftsman model which I have recently upgraded and placed on my workbench.

I bought a SAK Champion back in 1983 and used it as my primary knife/tool as a Ski Patroller for 17 years. Then it was basically my edc because it was in my briefcase/pack for another 5 years. After a fall camping trip I realized that I did not have it and saw that the small bag I kept it in had been chewed open, a PowerBar was partially eaten, and the knife was missing??? Pack rat? Did it slip through the chewed hole onto the ground without my noticing? Did someone find it in camp and not return it? Gone, like losing a friend...I was sad. You can replace the tool but you can't replace the memories and feelings of that tool, only make new ones. Took me years to do so too.

@@bdh3949 The Champion was a great SAK. I never had the chance to get one but I've seen many around. For a short period of time a Swisschamp (which was sort of the "son" of the Campion) was my edc.

Hi from Slovakia. Super video. Handyman was my first victorinox. At first I bought a fake for 7,5E. It was amazing. If a fake is that cool, what about original? So I bought original Handyman and become Victorinox lover. Now I have more than 10 Vic. Handyman + big knife that is not just survival. That is domination.

Great video! My first SAK was a 58mm minichamp, 6 years later it was "taken". My father gave me his climber, and I carried it for 8 years. Then, I rotated between an explorer, a swisschamp and many 111mm SAKs. Now, I've been carrying a fieldmaster, and won't change it for nothing. Greetings from Mexico.

The Minichamp is a great choice, especially if you're trying to get a friend into SAKs but you don't want to scare them, or if you need to have a SAK with you but you don't want people to look at you in a weird way. And the Explorer (I know, I know, I said I had too many and I wouldn't buy any more...) is probably going to be my next SAK. I know, I have too many. I know...:)

For me, the Handyman with the driver and bits from the Cyber would make my perfect EDC. I have had a Cyber 34 (M) forever. Must have been a very early one. It's been very well used and abused, so I just refurbished it. I replaced the broken and cracked scales, the springs in the scissors and pliers, replaced a missing bit and dressed some of the tools. It's virtually as good as new now, but I'd really like to have the saw and file from the Handyman. Should I try and do a self custom, or can anyone suggest an easier option?

@@Morpheus451 Thank you Morpheus. I had found this out since my comment, but have purchased a Ranger with the saw and file and some brass rods (2.5mm and 2.2mm diameter) so I have the parts to downgrade the Ranger to a Climber and then add these to my Cyber M to turn it into a Cyber L. It would save me the cost of a new Cyber L and allow me to arrange the tools how I prefer (I would like the bit driver to be more centralised). The downside is the hassle of doing the work.

Taking apart, customizing and then putting back together a SAK is something that I've been thinking about for years. And attempted, with not so great results. But I'm still trying. So, if anything good comes from it, I'll make a video. In the meantime, good luck with your Ranger project. Thank you!

@@Imyouruncle Thanks for your encouragement. I started my working life with an engineering apprenticeship and was an engineer for a while before a change of direction, so I'm hoping that I have the skills to do it. I just don't know if I would rather spend the money on a new Cyber L, or would rather spend the hours on the mod?

@@peterculkin811 If I remember correctly, the real hassle is to clamp the SAK and hammer the rivets correctly to avoid problems when opening the tools. Again, I haven't achieved good results with that, yet. But I'll persevere.
