    Minimize variables to improve consistency. My bag has three identical racquets. Here in Texas, we sweat a lot. When a grip gets slippery, put it aside, let it dry. Pick up one of the other identical racquets. Keep rotating them and you'll usually have a dry grip. Different balls play differently. The wind blows inconsistently. The sun moves in the sky but my racquet will always play the same.

    Great list. Things I carry that are not on your list -TWO smaller towels. I like having a dry towel when one gets drenched -Sandals. Oooh the joy of taking off hot shoes and wet socks and feeling the breeze -Nail clippers. Mostly for cutting string, but sometimes nail maintenance too -Two extra shirts. I like a fresh shirt for that third set, and a completely dry one to wear home -Cash. Some cash lives permanently in the bag. In some countries you have to tip the ball boys/girls who dont take cards -Water/drink bottles. You probably have them too

    My opinion is most of us only need 2 rackets. I have used this approach for 4 decades and I think I only once had a situation where both rackets had broken strings. If you play a lot and play a lot in competition, I could see getting 3 frames but no one needs more than 3 rackets. I also have a stringer so if I know I have 2 or 3 league matches in the next week, I can string up a 1 or 2 frames. You can always keep a 3rd older model in your bag in the rare event that you break strings on your 2 current model frames. More than 2 frames is a waste of money in my opinion. Funny, the guy that owns a pro shop says you need 4 frames.

    Keep in mind that this guys sells tennis equipment for a living. There is no reason to own so much if you are a regular hobby player. If you earn your money with Tennis, then there is a reason to think about details, thats my opinion.

  • @DeeeFoo

    @DeeeFoo

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@Falquiboy That's true. There are still hobby players that have like a dozen racquets though, so I still don't understand the need for so many. I guess if you're a collector then you'd want to have a bunch of different racquets, but even then there's probably only a handful that you actually would play with and bring to the court.

  • @Falquiboy

    @Falquiboy

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@DeeeFoo They probably feel good if they own a lot. The decision itself is stupid though, as it wont make you a better player. Doing core workouts on a regular will make you a better player than using a racket with a different tension. If the goal is to become a better player, you only need one racket. If your goal is to win trophies, then your sponsor will probably buy everything you need so thats that. But this channel is about the equipment and thats okay, I am not hating on anybody actually.

    I'm good with two of the same racket as a weekend warrior. Mainly to have one backup and to also allow me to go longer without visiting the shop for stringing. No particular reason why but Id rather string two rackets once every two months than string one racket once a month. I'm not going to mess with all those varying tensions I'll just run what I like and if I get tired that just means I need to improve my fitness. Got two Yonex Ezone 98s and I'm happy especially with their great QC.

    2 of the same is enough for any rec player not competing. 1 for play and 1 backup in case a string breaks so you don't have to go home early. Or you could be like me and have 12 different brand new racquets in your bag because you want to test and feel everything the market has to offer and demos are annoying because you don't get to pick the string or tension.

    What specifically are you looking to accomplish with the various strips of lead on the Clash? I have a Clash 100 with a little lead at 12 o’clock to bring up the swingweight (and a few grams in the handle to compensate). To my eye that looks like a lot of lead on an already stable racquet!

    I also carry 4 racquets. 3 Head Radical Pro and 1 customized Head Speed MP. Stings and tensions vary between them. Reasons: Need to change when the grip gets too sweaty. Need to change when I get fatigued. Need to adapt to a hard hitter or a soft hitting pusher. Also some days my serve or strokes in general are just off and a shaped string with more bite helps or a looser tension. Needless to say also as backup for string breakage.

    Very nice and informative video. I usually have 3 of the same. I have one strung with poly and the other two strung with synthetic gut. The one with poly, strung 2 lbs. tighter than the ones strung with syn. gut. For several years, I bought 3 of the same racquet because of chronic string breaking. Nowadays I don't play as much and buying 2 of the same makes more sense. I used to be all about the boardy feel of high tension strung racquets, 65+ lbs, syn. gut. Now, I'm stringing my racquets in mid to low 50s. Took me months to get used to those low tensions. Anyways, I'm primarily carrying only 2 of the same racquet in my bag. 1 strung with poly and the other synthetic gut. I usually play with the one strung with synthetic gut. I play with it until it breaks or feels "dead". For the past few years, I am breaking less strings. I will use my other racquet strung with poly if I am dealing with better competition; otherwise it's just there as a spare.

I like playing with different rackets not because I’m a pro but, I like to change things up and I also have a hard time walking away from a good looking racket. Having my “collection” and all of my accessories all in one bag just makes me happy. Maybe he feels the same way. I will use this bag until it falls apart, It suits me and it obviously suits him.

    @pproust My thoughts exactly. There is no point in a recreational player carrying 4 rackets to the courts. I've seen it at clubs too many times over the years. The worst is most of those cats can barely play. I don't know how well this dude plays but if this shop is his full time job, I can't see him having the time to play a great deal. I can see him turning up at his country club bending over his bag rummaging thru, picking up two rackets, tapping them together 'listening' to the strings, picks up another does the same etc etc so as far as I'm concerned it is pretentious ' look at me ' bull shit.

    Have you bought 3 of the same racquet and they all swing and feel different? Ugh! I used to own 3 2011 Babolat Pure Storms and they all feel swing and feel different. Frustrated. Then I switched to Pure Drives and I was really lucky that all 3 purchased frames swing and feel the same. Other racquets where I got lucky, 3 of the same, Wilson Hammer 5.2 Classic; Wilson H Tour 95; Wilson N:Code Tour Two. Babolat Pure Storm and Aeropro Drive were failures.

    It really depends on weather, grip, sweatyness of hands, if you are string breaker or not. Also could because he is stringer he wants to test at different tensions so he could give proper feedback to customers too

    I used to play with 8 rackets in college. Now as a hobby player I only have 2 but I'm thinking to get a 3rd and 4th just in case but they're not really necessary as I don't break strings often even though I put a lot of spin on my shots.

    Where’s your shop located? And what’s your name? I’m 62 years old & have been entertaining the idea of using an “oldie” racket like the Wilson Hyper Hammer 5.3 (arrives prestrung), sells at $99 ... or a Yonex Ezone 108, sells at $120. I’m a Yonex fan since using Navratilova’s R22; hence, would be niche iFM you can test the Yonex Ezone 108 or even the Yonex Astrel 105. Thanks, Nachobad.

    My bag is probably 10+ years old and it's not broken. Aslong as no seams are loose or you need more space for more tennis rackets or other stuff there is no reason to upgrade imo. Most bags practially last forever and that is a good thing.

    I’ve heard you say that a clash tour needs to be strung mid 40’s to unlock its potential but you begin with it at 50? I’ve just ordered a clash tour. Play a heavy topspin game, thbh. What tension would you string it up to?

    Try 45 lbs then and adjust up/down after trying. I am a 4.0 who plays pretty infrequently these days with that same racquet and I use it at 45, because I figure it to be a good middle of the ground tension.

    45 lbs?!! I seem to be talking to more and more people who string at 52 lbs or less. Am i missing something? I'm usually at 60 lbs with a pretty fast/ full swing. Is that light tension just because it's a clash?

  • @vlseph

    @vlseph

    David Landry to be clear, try these lower tensions only with poly. 60 lbs with multi or syn gut is probably fine.
