“On Sun Swallowing is a sweet and bloody collection of poetry and prose, dancing in the spaces between skinned knees and red wine, satin and switchblades, rosaries and Dionysian ecstasy. Her writings are haunted by the ghosts of girlhood, god/s, lovers and the landscape of childhood, but Warren is unflinching - she haunts her ghosts in return, with sharp lyricism and cutthroat vulnerability.
On Sun Swallowing explores shadowy emotion, at times in a whisper, at times in a scream. Think: cheap cigarettes, even cheaper wine, and an oath to reach hell by midnight and be home in time for work in the morning.”

I’ve already been trying to force autumn to come by wearing sweaters early, might as well start these books asap too

when you squint and give that toothy smile it is such a light, when you tilt your head and add i love you it's so sweet;) thank you for the recommendations! will look into them💕
1:01 reading "The Perfume", for example, is inherently a hot girl summer activity, same for "The Great Gatsby". Those are anti-autumn books.
As an Assyrian woman it makes me so happy to see none other than the Lady Dakota appreciating our ancient literature and history ♥️
OMG dakota I'm only 14 but I really look up to you and admire you. I have adhd too and it's comforting you have it too, and you are successful and smart it makes me feel like I could be like you plus I grew up in Australia and am still living there hah

spending hermit girl autumn immersed in books and watching lady dakota videos 💌 btw that jumper looks so cozy and i need a little tattoo tour sooner or later !!
hello lady dakota, thank you for letting us bask in your light (and giving autumn "recs", perfect timing as always)
ok if you like ancient civilizations, read about the Harappans. They lasted hundreds of years in modern day India and Pakistan and historians have not till date i) deciphered their script ii) decided what ended them they also were the only civilization in the world without any religion or ruler (anyone blessed enough to read all my comments has probably deciphered that I'm writing this while i go through the video)
When I get a new book in my hands I always smell it, most of the time people stare at me like I just ripped it. So thank you for giving me justice Lady Dakota Much much love 💓
PERFECT TIMING I NEEDED THIS
Thanks for posting, it’s perfect timing for me right now
I swear that your giggles just give so much serotonin that I think one day I will die of just your sweetness
i saw the notification for this video and i dropped everything and ran. i love you
I loved this video! Watching a lot of booktubers I often feel that everyone recommends the same books, but your list was so unique! So many interesting titles that I've never seen mentioned before. And I loved the poems you shared
I had a stressful day at work; luckily these videos calm my soul. Thank you, Lady Dakota.
i audibly shriek when i see a notif for a new dakota vid
Also love your content, I love to watch your videos and drink my morning coffee, I also feel they inspire me to be excited for the reading I slip away from work to do throughout the day.
How you react to the quotes you read is literally how I react when you share an excerpt of your works 🥲
omg I’m so glad you’ve picked up the doloriad!!! I read it a few months ago and I’d love to hear what you think about it!!!
love your video’s
yes the perfect way to wrap up my evening
Brideshead Revisited is such an immensely good book. I always forget just how good and get to be newly blown away each time I pick it back up. The Promise is supposed to be amazing. It won the booker prize last year ❤️ The Dolly Alderton book is a cute enough read, and it’s just been turned into a bbc show. Happy reading girl xx
also i love your sweater!!
I'm so ready for autumn!
AAAAAAA I looooove that Wendy cope poem it’s so cool to see it in one of your videos!
Hello, thank you for these magical videos. They are very inspiring for an aspiring writer!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOVELY
Everything i know about love is so so so so good, i loved it so much!
Good morning/afternoon/evening, Dakota! Hope you're having an amazing day and as always I cherish every single bit of your videos, I don't usually comment on videos but this one gave me the urge to do it! I am a huge sucker for classics and gothic literature, I have a huge pile on my bed that doesn't fit on my shelves that I plan to read until the end of this year, the books included are The Castle of Otranto, The Lady of the Camellias, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, Macabre Victorian Crimes, Mrs. Dalloway and two artists biographies! The best wishes for you and much love, hope you enjoy your "hermit girl autumn" to the fullest!
Literally nothing calms me down like your videos you just made a night overrun with homework so much better. Thank you. I also love the poem “The Orange”!! It’s been a favorite of mine for a couple years and it was really cool to hear that you also like it. I started September off with I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy and now I’m reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower and afterwards I’ll tackle The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt.

Bataille is genius! Story of the Eye is beautiful!
dakota, i am so in love with the way your mind works, and it was almost exciting for me to find out you have adhd. i also have adhd, and often get really frustrated with my own brain, but you helped me appreciate that certain hyper-fixations and habits of mine just create an unconven way of thinking, and not a bad one. i love and admire you so much, and i’m i want you to know how inspired i am by you

The Doloriad’s on my list this fall, too-looking forward to it! Also, CRACKS!!! I too watched it too young (I think on KZread?) and adored it and baby Juno Temple (and Eva Green, naturally). Had no idea there was a book-need to read!
Happy birthday lady Dakota wish you all the best To live for hope of it all ❤️

Lady Dakota it has been BUGGING ME FOR SO MANY VIDEOS so I'm finally asking; what is on the two slips of white notebook paper next to the novel plotting sticky notes on your wall? I assume it's something to do with your novel but the curious cat in me deeply desires to know. You don't have to answer, obviously, but my eyes always drift over to it in your videos and it itches my brain so much I always lose focus and have to rewatch parts of your videos 😭😭
OHHH MY GODDDD I loved the book cracks!! It was beautiful i was waiting until someone would mention this book with dark academia all over the place Edit: lol George’s Bataille “story of the eye” 😅🥲 IYKYK 🥚

Highly recommend the 1980s TV series for Brideshead over the film !!
Hermit Girl Autumn is my kind of Autumn 👌🏻
dakota if you haven’t already you must read the yellow wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman!! sounds like something you would absolutely devour!
Hii Could you do a video on taking notes in a book or just annotating in general. I seem to struggle to do so. It would really help me a lot so i can really emerge myself in the reading proces.
Hello Lady Dakota. I will be reading works by Mariana Enriquez this autumn, I know that her novel "our share of night" is coming out in October, but firstly I will read "the things we lost in the fire" because I know that some of the characters from that collection reappear in the new novel. I wanted to suggest it because I know you've liked her works.
LETS GOOOOOOOOO
This is the first video I have seen of yours and I have to say the first thing I thought when seeing you, Is that you look so much like Gwen Stacey!
just scrolling through my fyp and found this. legally i have to subscribe. i love your aesthetic. wait omg. are you british? even better

Dakota!! Can we please have a video on books that you read young which changed your dna... as you were talking about in the video [when you were talking about cracks and lolita] please? please ? please?
you remind me of elisabet vogler from the movie persona (1966) you’ve definitely got her smile and charisma :)
Come on! Upload dakota!! We waiting😢
i just graduated recently and have been reading a lot of philosophy books cause i miss school, at least the nice parts of it.
Thank you for the amazing recommendations, my list is getting longer and longer 😅 Also, i was wondering if you would recommend some books that deal with losing one's passion. I would really like to hear your suggestions. I look forward to your next videos!
Omg these look so interesting, I got the first poem from thrift store like couple of days too hello??? Also one of my read this fall is def breast and eggs
love u too
I'm a bit late to this but Brideshead Revisited is one of my favorite books!! At first it was a just a solid 3/5 for me but then *I just kept thinking about it* and now it's close to 5/5- I say 4.5/5 because I still honor the reading experience and those initial thoughts. The 1981 miniseries is the most faithful adaptation I've ever seen. The pacing is a little slow, especially since there are times characters are telling stories and in those cases you're just watching people talk whereas reading it you're imagining the stories the same way as the rest of the book. Anyway, it's absolutely incredible, imo. And the 2008 movie is alright. Choices are made which I respect but it's a cutup version of the book because of the time restraint. Ben Whishaw is the best part of the film!! and, though I have mixed feelings on it overall, I'd still rewatch it for him, to briefly revisit the story, and to satisfy that period drama itch if I'm really in the mood for one.
I have a lot of college work this fall but I’m going to try to get in a bit of personal reading too, Go Tell it on the Mountain by James Baldwin and Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton are on my list.

Oh my gosh it is so sad that I met literally none of these because of schoolwork… (I did get to read The Metamorphosis, Turn of the Screw and For Bread Alone though).
I feel like autumn is the best time to read Frankenstein.
The red panties on the lampshade was a bold choice, no judgement of course, everyone exhibits their sexaulity in different ways. All power to you.
I am most excited to hear your thought on George Bataille Erotism. Currently reading four books, no idea how that happened, but they are: The Sound and the Fury by Faulkner; Monday Starts on Saturday by Strugatsky brothers; The Metabarons by Alejandro Jodorowsky; Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson.
Big recommendation: "The magic mountain" by Thomas Mann
Books 📚 Reading Wonderful hobby.

Eva Green is the best part of the Cracks film, tbh❤
Your tattoo looks at first like a feather quill
I'm hoping to re-read The Hobbit and start the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Love the thong on the lamp lolll ❤️
I also love writing that makes me feel torn up, regurgitated, and troubled to the core, leaves me with knowledge unsafe in my brain, because it feeds an insatiable desire for mental anguish --that being said, friendsies? lol
❤️❤️❤️
