I had an absolutely wonderful trip to Alaska. And the quilt stores were lovely. So here is a brief recap of my travels and the fabric and friends long the way. And I big thank you to my editor Nicole on these, as she did most of the heavy lifting. Thanks for watching

I'm so sorry to hear you couldn't explore the Anchorage and other Southcentral area shops! Fortunately, you can order online from a few: The Quilted Raven - www.quiltedravenalaska.com/home Seams Like Home - www.akseams.com/ Twisted Sisters Quilty Pleasures - www.twistedquilting.com/home Bearly Threaded Too - www.bearlythreadedquilting.com/ Stitches From Heaven - www.stitchesfromheaven.net/ Sylvia's Quilt Depot - www.sylviasquiltdepot.com/ Even though I live here, some of the Alaska fabrics are so wonderful - they aren't just for tourists! Plus, we have some amazing fabric and pattern designers! Teresa Ascone's work is amazing - www.teresaascone.com/ Wildfire Designs Alaska is one of my favorites for raw edge applique patterns - www.wildfiredesignsalaska.com/ So glad to hear the weather was cooperative and you saw so much while you were here visiting our beautiful state! Sorry that you came home with an unwanted souvenir (COVID). :( Come back and visit us anytime!!

I am overjoyed you had a great time. You and your husband deserve it. You've had at least 3 very hard years!!! Do take another trip whether it's to Alaska or not. Enjoy your time with you hubby. Every minute. I lost mine, my soul mate 2 yrs ago in July and life has never been the same. Create more great memories now. You'll live on them later. Many more happy travels.

After 14 trips to Alaska and visiting all but Raintree, I can still say it is my favorite travel location. I just got back from my first trip to Denali last week. It my first visit since my husband passed away and I enjoyed visiting all the places we loved, especially the quilt shops! Fortunately I wore masks throughout and did NOT catch COVID. It was gorgeous weather and sunny unlike most of my other trips. Totally worth the money and a great trip if you have never cruised before due to all the flat water in the inland passage. I am so happy all the shop owners survived the COVID shutdowns. They were really happy to see folks again. Changing Tides is trying to get a website going but everyone else has a website and most owners get specific Alaska themed prints available only in Alaska. Lisa Moore in Sitka is one of my favorite Alaska themed quilt pattern makers. So glad your trip was so much fun. I pray your recovery from COVID doesn't affect your breathing. I had recovered 6 weeks before my trip and it did put a considerable dent in my ability to do physical activity on my trip. Best wishes!

Your lovely panels of the Alaskan Indigenous women are based on the art of Alaskan painter Barbara LaVallee. When we cruised to Alaska 15 years ago I bought one of her prints called Mittens and Mukluks and it hangs in my kitchen. And in the quilt shop in Skagway I bought a pattern for a little quilt based on one of her paintings. It’s called Three Sheets to the Wind and the finished piece hangs in my laundry area. Her art makes me smile and it brings back memories of a wonderful trip. Glad you had a wonderful vacation.

Wonderful trip... so exciting to stop at other quilt stores. A tip for next trip, contact the quilt stores in advance letting them know of your travels. Keep them updated on your schedule. Ask if it might be possible to stop & shop when in town. The closed on Sunday store might have arranged a special opening for you all to stop, chat & shop.

I was going to suggest the same. Most "specialty" type places in south central are closed on Sundays, living up here we're just used to it. I get a little shock when I travel and so much is open on Sundays 😆

My Mom and I did a quilting cruise to Alaska in 2007. We flew to Anchorage and started the cruise from there. Ketchikan and Hubbard Glacier were the only two stops that were the same as yours, but needless to say, there were quilting shops at every port and the fabrics were as bright, beautiful, and playful as the ones you showed. My mother stopped quilting soon after that cruise due to poor eyesight, butcthe memories we shared lasted a lifetime. Taking us along on your journey brought the great memories flooding back. Thank you so much for sharing.

You chose the most fantastic cruise of all. (I’ve been cruising since 1981). My mother took her four grown children on an Alaskan cruise in 2003. She and my sister were quilters and they hit some of the same shops you did. I only started quilting after she passed in 2017. My sister bought a quilt kit in Ketchikan that resembles the Tlingit button blanket. She gave it to me. It hangs behind my husband’s bed. You’ve made me want to go back. It would be my third time. Oh, also we went on an Western Carribean cruise in May. Hubby tested positive the fifth day of our six day cruise. He only had a stuffy nose. We were treated wonderfully by the staff of the Allure RCL. Fortunately we we able to drive directly home from Florida to North Georgia.

Sounds like a very nice trip! I would have gone crazy in these quilt shops and I don’t even do quilts 😅 I did one baby quilt years ago but I sew mainly clothes and sometimes home accessories and bags. I am also at home with Covid at the moment and watch a lot of KZread 😅 It’s the first time I caught it and it happened when I went on my first concert since 2020. But I am doing fine. And it was a very nice concert! Now I am planning my first big quilt using fabrics from my stash. I already cut up a lot of squares and I hope I get the top done during my quarantine. We still think it was one of our best cruises and we have now done many more around the world. Ours was not so rushed at Denali and we had dinner looking at the sun setting over the mountain.

😂"time to dump my husband and visit the quilt store"😂 Our last trip my husband researched the quilt shops in Grand Junction, CO and wanted to visit shops in Vegas. We were thinking about a cross-country RV trip before the gas prices went up and he found out about Missouri Star quilt shop, now he wants to go there, they even have an RV campsite. Why am I not the one searching out these quilt shops? Because I know I will spend way too much money and come back with more fabric than I have room for. Your trip was fabulous, so glad you had a good time, and that you have recovered from covid.

Your cruise sounds wonderful! Such great memories and making of new friends. I do believe that I shopped at the Whale’s Tale quilt shop in Ketchikan when we did our cruise in Alaska. We were only in Ketchikan for a short time so there was not much time. Only until about 3 in the afternoon. At that time I was not quilting but I was doing a lot of cross stitching and bought several cross stitch patterns there. I finished them all when we got back home and we also bought some local art in Sitka that we put with my counted cross stitch pieces to make our “Alaska Wall” in our home. I loved Sitka best of all on our trip. We walked all over the little town. It was so clean and we had a perfectly beautiful day there. We had a beautiful day in Ketchikan as well, even warmer than usual and everyone had their windows open trying to catch a little bit of the sweet early summer breeze. Our cruise was just 7 days but we had a wonderful time. So glad you cruise turned out so great! It would have been fun to be on your cruise with you and in your classes. So fun. Thanks for sharing your cruise with us.

I finally had time to watch. I love the quilting circle with the indigenous women. I’m going to see if I can find it online. Your video makes me want to return to Alaska as it’s been years since I’ve been there. I’m so happy you had such a good trip.

There was a quilt store in Sunburst MT, a village of 200people. The owner was a former longshoreman from Alaska who had a fantastic eye for color, designed his own quilts and did machine quilting. Many tallented people in Alaska. Glad you had a great trip.

Oh my goodness, I love that animal panel! I wish I could have picked up something like that when we went in 2019. I did get some lovely batiks and they've been very fun to work with!

Delightful. We enjoyed that trip I May 3 years ago with very little snow. I loved walking off our boat and being right at the car in Vancouver, only about an hour from home. I also bought the illustrated panel of the sewing circle. My daughter gave me the “Mama Do You Love Me?” Book by the same artist for Mother’s Day when she was little. There was a quilt group on board and they were very welcoming to this knitter.

Would love to see Denali and look up cousins and an old TX classmate in Anchorage, but I'll have to settle for videos like this. Local fabrics were great! Lovely choices. Not one bit seasick on either of my Caribbean cruises. The ocean took my breath away. Cousins just returned from salmon fishing up there. Huge catches! Lots of wildlife photos sent my way as well. Thank you for sharing your memories of Alaska.

Glad you and the others had a terrific trip. I’ve always been curious about a ‘quilting cruise’. Imagined one would have lots of group sewing days. Your trip looks relaxing and fun; as well as a good way to see the beautiful state of Alaska. I bought fabric I felt was particular to the region, on our Alaska cruise many years ago, and a friend brought me a gift of fabric on her trip. I went a little racy in a wonderful quilt shop in Sitka. I’ve never quit known how to put these larger prints together. I wanted to have an “Alaska” quilt. Looking forward to how you work your fabric.

What a fabulous trip! My in-laws took the whole family (15) on this same trip on Celebrity in 2008 for their 55th anniversary. We had a 6 year old and an 8 year old to have fun with instead of hitting the quilt shops. So fortunate to get a clear day at Denali. I hope the COVID continues to wane. Be well.

Hey Karen, this is my 3rd time watching this video. My husband and I are taking an Alaskan cruise in June of this year and you can bet, the main quilt stores are on my iteanrry. Thanks for heads up for the bus ride thru the park and the train ride. I'm so excited to know there are beautiful quilt shops along the way. AND I will copy you, not to buy any fabric I can get close to home. :) Thanks for sharing!!!

About 10 years ago my hubby, daughter and SIL did an Alaskan cruise. We started with Denali - train from Anchorage. Didn’t have any of those hurry and wait times. Visited several quilt shops along the way. Had an extra day in Anchorage on the front end then an extra day in Vancouver at the end. Visited the rainforest! Awesome. Oh, a flightseeing tour over Denali. Amazing. Thanks for the review.
