Well done, Mom! But I'm not remotely surprised. Hate to break it to you young whippershredders, but as a 56 yo ski patroller in Montana, most of us old school (women) skiers can still handle deep and scratchy steeps, because we grew up on wooden boards, then long skinny skis (sans helmets)..we hit tabletops on the first fish tail Burton boards..shifted to thigh-burner teles with lace-up leather boots..long before we had to retire onto these new-fangled short, wide, ridiculously user-friendly alpine boards. So we may not speed-demon it down the mountain anymore, but we Can sure teach you a thing or two about short radius turning with a smile down a pencil shute! 😉

Great comment! I learned to ski in the 60s on steel Head skis with cubco bindings and leather boots on hard pack and glare ice in the east (often at night). I’m 65 now, skiing on Volkl shaped GS skis but still rocking my Salomon 92 boots from the 90s and really truly still able to ski almost anything in control.

Your mother is Absolutely shredding. I wish I can ski like that when I'm 60. Her commentary is hilarious.

Brain shrinkage in older people can cause a subdural hematoma, with or without a helmet. Sudden falls at cautious speed on a catwalk can result in a slow brain bleed with no symptoms, because the brain does not feel pain. Some can go ninety days before other symptoms prompt MRI detection.

Please tell your Mom that an 'old lady' watched and loved every move she made! The time we were at Blackcomb and looked down Saudan Couloir, Alice said to me "Should we?" There was no snow in it and it was the first run of a 2-week vacation, and I said "You have got to be kidding!!" Boy, do I admire your Mom! 💓Lynn in NYC

Your mom is one special lady! Great skiing and you are pretty brazen to challenge her to ski in all that fog & uncertain terrain. She is one helluva good sport for taking it on.

She seems like such a sweet woman and she is killing it for her age. And I love her subtle commentary and “woohoos”

Your mom is a unit!!! Right on!! I'm also 60, and have been skiing (off and on) since age 3. Respect to her, because I know her legs were on fire the entire day, and marshmallows the next day. So awesome!! LOL..."If you're not losing a ski, you're not skiing hard enough." I have a similar mantra: "If you're not crashing...."

This fires me up so much .. I just know she used to blast around the mountain on her 200cm Rossi SM's and I bet they're still in the garage somewhere .. 😁 .. or maybe Atomic Red Sleds .. or?? .. interestingly no LC before the drop!! Maybe you drank it all knowing you were taking her up there. Such an awesome video!! Thanks for sharing this. Hope you get some more snow soon.

I had to watch it again on the big screen TV to really enjoy it. A couple of questions: How long as your mom skied, and at what age did she start? It's obvious where you got your love of skiing James. I still love that you carried her skis for her.

Love that you had to pull it up again on the big screen! She started skiing as a kid in Beaver Valley a super tiny ski hill in Ontario. We then skied Manning Park as a family growing up and now we ride at Whistler. She 100% passed on the passion to me and I am forever grategul.

@riseandalpine There's nothing I love more than skiing, even motorcycling is a close second (just can't tell my biker buds, or I'll have to fight them all). I'll be at Whistler next March 11 to 14, and March 18 to 21. Hopefully, I'll bump into you up there someday.

I wish I could do that at 60! I've only done the Couloir many years ago, and it was peak conditions, bluebird day, and I was with an instructor showing me the way. So steep! You can't even see it in this video.
