    Born into Greek Orthodoxy I did not appreciate how lucky I was when I was younger. Now that I am older and understand my faith much better I am not only lucky but honored to have been born into the original church of Christ and one that has not changed. Make the change and get baptized and you will have prepared your soul for eternity.

    I had experienced the Orthodox Church a bit in Russia, but i first started going to the Greek church in my home town when i was helping my parents for a while. After a few weeks there i told some of them that i didn't want to be rude or presumptuous, and i knew it had always been in their lives, but i was an outsider new to it all, and i wasn't sure they understood the depth of the treasure they had.. My eyes water as i remember those times. My husband and i were received into a church connected to Russia. J LOVE the Greek services but we also loved the Russian ones and the music which i get to sing.

As I participate in the sacraments, prayer, fasting and the life of the church, I can literally feel myself changing and being set free. It really is the True church. Glory to God, I'm a recently baptized convert who attends an Antiochian Orthodox Church (and a ROCOR parish with friends every so often), certainly Orthodoxy is a wondrous thing, and i hope you continue your journey in faith and love As for the chairs, most churches in the "old country" (historically Orthodox places) actually have none! In the west, to accomodate many who arent used to standing for so long, chairs and (as is the case for my parish) pews were introduced as a concession to the people. This, the standing, is a tradition that speaks to the great respect we have for God, and Christs ability to truly make is *stand* before God, which is a wonderous thing if you think about it, the Apostles fell to their knees with their heads to the ground at the sight of Christ's transfiguration, and yet we can stand before the very Mysteries (meaning the Eucharist) which are Christ Himself!

    @tania8749 the ones in my area (I've been to a few just to see if there really were any substantive differences, there weren't, the presence of chairs was quite literally the most noticeable difference haha) are pretty much 50/50 when it comes to chairs, though they seem to be far less prevalent in the ROCOR than Antioch or Greek churches There's even a WR parish near me, however it is Antiochian rather than ROCOR, which tends to have poor policing on certain RC practices that worm their way in (sacred heart for example), God willing Antioch will start doing something about that as the WR becomes more widespread, from what I've heard ROCORs WR is fantastically done (and, unlike the Antiochian variation, didn't have most of its funding pulled :p )

Catechism is essential because in Orthodoxy first you learn about Christ and afterwards that you have the information and the understanding you freely choose to get baptised or not. Christ chose you to get into his -real- Church. Glory to God. Don’t hesitate to make as many questions as you want during the upcoming lectures. I sent you lots of love. The catechism class is to help you understand the church and to create a strong Christian - so that you are prepared for participation in the church and its traditions and understand how it can help transform you. Nick, last Saturday night into Sunday morning, was PASCHA. (Easter), in the Orthodox Church. This week is called Bright Week. Some churches have services during it. This coming Sunday is called Thomas Sunday, because we hear the Gospel account of St. Thomas, whose hesitation to believe helped to confirm the belief for all of us. During the 40 days of Pascha you will hear songs, hymns, prayers that you won't hear at other times during the year.. And you will hear CHRIST IS RISEN! repeated over and over again! ☦💝📿💝☦

    Originally, people were baptized the same day - for fear they might actually die later that day for being Christian. Today, there are tens of thousands of counterfeits, and some people like to shop around. In my opinion, the Catechumen process has become longer for a few reasons: 1. It’s a serious commitment (as you’d expect from the true church) and not to be taken lightly. 2. It’s for life, not for dabblers. 3. It gives someone the time to make 100% sure it’s right for them, with the option to back out.

    Christ is Risen! God Bless you on your journey! The Hierarch was refering to is being a Catechumen which is best described to being Engaged to Christ, while Holy Baptism, Chrismation and first Communion is being married to Christ. It's ultimately up to the Spiritual Father on how long but generally around a year give or take. As a Catechumen it's just as important to start living the Orthodox ascetical life (prayer, fasting, ect) as having knowlege about God, the teachings of The Church. I'd recomend Inquirers find a local church, and keep showing up to services and in the Divine Liturgy, Vespers and such listen to what's being said. Our Liturgy is the best Catechist since our hymnology and Liturgies are rich with theology and examples from the Saints. The Divine Liturgy is so much more than you realize, it is in reality our literal entering in and participation on the Eternal Heavenly Liturgy, There are stories of people being able to see past the curtian and see more of what's going on. That's why we are so reverent and aware of our unworthiness in participating in such fantastic things. I'm also a former anglican (from the States oddly enough) and always got that superficial empty feeling, where everything was big cold and empty, and from my First Divine Liturgy everything while grand and fantastic was warm and close feeling, the deeper I got into the Jesus Prayer and into my own heart, the grander everything around me felt. It's something that the more I think about it the the more I can't wait for the next Liturgy, the more I look back with fondness. I confuse my protestant friends and family when I say that I look back with much more fondness and admoration on the adverage weekly liturgy than say the Advengers: Endgame Movie, or this great concert and I only find myself really thinking back on the last Liturgy and never modern once in a lifetime events. I the unworthy one am given such a blessing to find such joy in such things, to be given an unexplainable joy and longing? Glory to God! All that said It's not unusral for us converts and Glorify Him for it. Keep going! -T "Aquire the Spirit of Peace and a thousond around you will convert" -Saint Saraphim of Sarav

    You'll be a catechumen.. literally "learner" from the normal verb catekhein, to learn. Yes, you've got it: the Church ALWAYS takes in pilgrims by teaching first, or what's the point? This is where "cradle Orthodox" like myself can be at a disadvantage if they don't get to go to temple or Sunday school. (Yes, we call the building temple, naos, hram etc: the church or ekklesia is the people inside... but nobody minds at all, language changes!)

  • @makanaima

    I would just add to this that a Saint is not a mediator - they are not between you and God. Asking a saint to pray for you is the same as asking a friend to pray for you. They are praying for you, and with you. The other thing to note is that in Orthodoxy, there is a difference between prayer and worship. Prayer is communication, not worship. Worship is reserved for God alone. Just as you can pick up the phone and speak to a loved one, you can use prayer to speak to a Saint or the Theotokos.

    Hey there brother ! I would try to "boost" your understanding of Church and Divine liturgy : For the Church (Orthodox, of course), the foundation of identity is the living Christ, present in the liturgy (in the bread and wine, i.e., in the body and blood) and NOT THE HOLY SCRIPTURE! The Holy Scripture has originated from the Orthodox Church and is interpreted only within the Church and never outside of it. Sola Scriptura is nonsense! It's like interpreting a book while ignoring the author - reading out of context. Protestant sects think they understand the Holy Scripture, but in fact, they are only "concerned" with the covers of the Holy Scripture - they have no clue about the essence! Because they have not understood the basic Greek text in which the Scripture is written. In fact, they are unaware of this fact. From this, it is easy to conclude that protestant theology have no idea what the Church itself is - for them, the church is a social organization, to be humorous let's say - a form of a cultural and artistic society. They do not know that the Church is the mystical body of Christ, and when Christ comes at the moment of communion, we would be like bees on the comb - we eat and drink Him and unite most closely with Him! If you have any other question - feel free to ask

  • @Menekratis
    @Menekratis14 күн бұрын

    Bible only = protestant. By science first you got the teaching / speech and then you got the writings p.e. the history of Pelloponisian war described by Thucidides. Hear the withnesses then write the books. Protestands are first the book! and not the speaking / oral tradition. Apostles had teaching which then became books. This is the "Paradosis", the tradition of speech in the church. Even if there was no new testament, just the comments of the saints in their books about the testament, give us the testament. The oral speaking was the testament. Other example. The holy books of the Hindu, as the Homer Iliad, first was oral songs. After many many years this both became books. But now, protestants know better. The church as a whole had the teachings as oral tradition and new which books were false when they were written down. Protestands came after and "only bible" is actually the books that the orthodox have declared as "true". How could the protestands knew which books were true without the oral tradition given to them? In the orthodox church there is the tradition of the story of Virgin Mary eventhought there is wasnt no book about her. The protestand first or only book is a true point against this heresy, and when you will read Orthodox books against protestantism you will get far more things to understand. It is a pitty the west didnt had a christianity. What it had was the political power of pope which caused all the heresies. Keep in mind. Every heresy is actually a combination of political move. Pope political move to be "free" from Konstantinopole, Protestands to free Germany from Pope, agglikan to free england from Pope and where Kings became "bishops". Funny situation. The political leaders of England became first-priests! The first political disorder against Christ? The choose of Barabas vs Christ. Baravas was a political revolter against Roman rule, Christ was not a political revolter. And this is the 1st nationalism in the New Testament. the picking up / prefearing the political leader of Jews vs Jesus God. The succes on earth via human power vs God Power. A teaching also of protestantism... Modern nationalisms do the same. Change the church in order to serve an ethnic state and not God. If you search more you will get it... God Speed....

Paul says "He doesn't need the temple" Acts 17:24 as does Stephen too Acts 7:48 because Isaiah did Is 66:1-2 as Solomon did 1 Kings 8:27 because He was happy under carpets 1 Chronicles 17:6 But David wanted the temple...which was destroyed for being misused...and all those images He commissioned... oh and His Spirit His GLORY was NOT in the second temple as the holy of holies was empty no ikon there crazy what's so pretty in those churches is abominable to Him...but even Eve saw that which was forbidden her as pleasing to her eyes...Cain SAW the work of his hands as worthy worship...

    Then Joshua tore his clothes, and fell to the earth on his face before the ark of the LORD until evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust on their heads. (Joshua 7:6) And make two cherubim out of hammered gold at the ends of the cover. 19 Make one cherub on one end and the second cherub on the other; make the cherubim of one piece with the cover, at the two ends. 20 The cherubim are to have their wings spread upward, overshadowing the cover with them. The cherubim are to face each other, looking toward the cover. Exodus 25:18 We can see Joshua fell on his face for the whole of the evening (prayer position) before the Ark of God which Moses created when God told him to in exodus. It’s all biblical brother And the orthadox church is the body of Christ where he dwells and we are in his house. Ur right we don’t have to go church but I want to go church haha

    Saying "I don't need the church" is pretty much denying the incarnation. Might aswell swap Jesus for Buddha or Krishna at that point, treating him either as a good example or some celestial spiritual entity. Jesus was incarnate in a particular time and place in our human history and he established his church here as His body. And we can participate in his Body through the sacraments that make us part of his Body and his Body part of ourselves. You can say "oh I can just pray to Jesus spiritually and follow his ideals" and that's fine but it's missing a huge part of the point of christianity which is incarnation.

    Like it or not but the true Church Jesus started is the Catholic Church and appointed St Peter as the first Pope. "Tu es Petrus et super hanc petram aedificabo Ecclesia Meam." I love our Orthodox brothers and sisters but the Orthodox Church as it is only came about in 1054.

  • @squixiee

    I say this with nothing but love, Orthodoxy and Catholicism are not biblical. They are false and leading people astray. Please look into that and read your Bible. Mary and the saints can't hear you, they are not omniscient or omnipresent and you are saved by grace through faith alone. Please read Hebrews. These are the man-made rituals that we are warned against.
