My Crazy 23andMe Ancestry DNA Results... I'm 34% WHAT?! | VLOG
In today's special vlog, I do something I've been waiting to do for quite a while.. Finally I've taken the ancestry test and about 6 weeks later I've finally got my 23andMe Ancestry DNA Results! I've been told all my life that I am mixed with African American (obviously), Irish, West Indian and Cherokee Indian. Now, I finally have the opportunity to see if I can confirm what my parents and family have told me my heritage is all my life! The results are crazy! Not only do I find some surprises, but I've discovered that all along I've been traveling to the VERY places my heritage lies without even knowing!
I do want to take the time to say, its been obvious for my entire life that I am clearly African American. So anybody coming on this video and saying "Why is he so proud to be European....", well I'm proud to be EVERYTHING I am. Why would I hide part of who I am and fully embrace the other? This test was meant for me to figure out exactly who I am and where I come from. To embrace every single part of me. Not only ONE. I am MIXED. So I'm not going to sit here and only accept that I am African American because that would mean I'm completely disregarding an entire side of my family. And that is something I will NOT do.

    🚨 ATTENTION: If you are black and you're going to come here and tell me I'm hating my own people, please leave. Do not bother. If you are white and you are going to tell me who or what YOU think I am, please leave. Do not bother. Me embracing every side of my heritage and NOT just ONE part DOES NOT mean I am hating myself or my ancestors. I am not "happy to be white" or "happy to be black". I am HAPPY TO BE ME. I do not "hate myself" or hate being black. It is not a surprise to me that I am partially European, nor am I shocked that I'm a majority black. I have known ALL OF MY LIFE that I am what the world considers an "african american". I am not blind. My skin is brown. Clearly I am a black man. I took this test with the SOLE INTENTION of getting to know WHAT OTHER RACES I am. Because I have freckles. I have naturally occurring red/orange hairs. My hair is not coarse. My grandmother has white skin. My grandfather has white skin. My ancestors came from Ireland. All of you who are going to come to my video and tell me to IGNORE that for the sake of embracing my blackness can take a nasty wet fart into your wide open mouth. I am not here to embrace 64% of me. I am not here to ignore 1/3 of who I am. I am not here to ignore an entire half of my family. Had I not had European ancestor, I wouldn't even be in existence. So to deny them would be to deny myself. YOU are more than welcome to hate YOURSELF and YOUR family. I however, will not. I'm black and I'm proud. I'm white and I'm proud. I'm happy to be BOTH. I'm happy to be MIXED. Now if you have something nice to say, please say it. Otherwise, eat a brick.

    Ok I finally found someone who has results like mine! 66% African, 34% European. It rocked my world and now I'm so confused lol. I'm gonna do ancestrydna cause I need to find out specially what countries in Africa my ancestors came from. I'm lowkey mad that they broke down the European part but not the African part. 😒 I believe we're mixed but I feel weird calling myself that lol.

    Did you NOT READ the comment... clearly you DIDNT. I’m embracing what I DIDNT KNOW. I have embraced for 28 LITERAL YEARS OF LIVING my blackness. Now that I find out something I already know I’m expected to embrace it even more? That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard in my life. Me being surprised that I am white and reacting to such does not = me embracing the white more... it simply means I now know the part of me that was once a mystery. You are extremely dumb and I’m so tired of you KZread know it alls who assume the absolute dumbest things on planet earth. I’m not going to be excited about something I’ve known every waking day of my life. “OMG LOOK I HAVE BROWN EYES OMG! a feature I have seen for 28 years!!! I think the main reason people are calling you just black is because as stated, most African Americans have around 20% European DNA due to slavery. However, the fact that you have white grandparents (from what I presume were consensual relationships) makes it understandable you are more connected to that side of your heritage, as compared with another African American who has white DNA from centuries worth of black people intermixing. People also look at you & assume you are full black because I guess you have perhaps a stereotypical African American phenotype (which looks mixed when compared to 100% West African people) that has become prevalent amongst mixed race African Americans.The whole concept of being mixed race is really ambiguous - how much "mixture" is enough to be considered mixed race? Anyway, enjoyed your video - keep doing you.

    Most African Americans call me black because they say if I accept my European heritage then I hate myself. Some say that there’s no such thing as mixed. And some say this test is a scam. I’ve heard it all at this point. They’ll say anything to separate themselves from “the white man”. 🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️

    + Angelica Carvajal I'm more connected to my European heritage from my great-great grandfather that was Italian, so I'm definitely Italian versus African-American. If white admixture came from his great-great-great grandparents would it still be understandable for him to identify with his European roots?

    Angelica Carvajal He’s mixed, period. His admixtures are nothing to sneeze at, they’re pretty big numbers. Why would anyone think he should discard a huge chunk of who he is and just embrace 1 part of him? IDGI That type of thinking seems really closed minded and insecure to me.

    No you're not because all three groups you mention in the beginning went extinct in antiquity and bore no ethnic relation to who their lands are occupied by nowadays. Namely by Bulgarians and Romanians. The former are currently pretty much Slavic/Turkic and the latter are more closely related to Italians, or then Romans who ethnically cleansed Dacia. Also those parts of Europe were under Austro-Hungarian rule and had a lot of various troops from the whole empire leaving the marks of their presence, so not having any Slavic genes after all of that there is very unlike.

    @@OstblockLatina well I am Austrian citizen. Born in Romania. As i made the test, I sent it from Austria, with the address which is here. They did not know my heritage. It came pretty well balanced considering my background since I was born in Romania, blond and being told by my grandmother that my grand, grandfather was German. So that's why dacic/getae/thoracic + Germanic + Finnish (I don't know that background) And btw, the Turks and Bulgars have about 60-70% Thracian/Moesian/Greek/Dacian genes. (In that order)

    The reason one brother can have more Scandinavian than the other, is because when an embryo "selects" DNA from each parent, each embryo selects different amounts of the DNA. Some people will have a group in their DNA that doesnt show up on a sibling's results because that person didnt select those genes for whatever reason. The ancestry is there in the family; it's just a matter of what you happen to grab during your formation. That's why blood relatives can look drastically different from each other sometimes. I have an aunt who's short with a dark tan, freckles, red hair and black-red (awesome looking) eyes. But another close relative of hers who's tall and stout with blonde hair, blue eyes, fair skin, and classic European features - like those blonde mountain peoples of Europe. Same genes dispensed differently. They would test with the same groups, but I'd theorize that their amounts of each ethnicity would be different even if similar.

    I came from your brother’s video and this is so fascinating. :) It’s possible you may have inherited more Irish, Jewish, or Scandinavian genes since 23&Me couldn’t pin down a good percentage of your European genes. It also explains why your brother’s percentages in certain regions are so low. There’s also a possibility that the East Asian genes could be Native American since they share similar haplogroups. I took my test on Christmas and will get the test results between next week and Valentine’s Day. I’m making a video and planning on sending the raw data to DNA Land and GEDMatch to find my ethnic groups after I get my results. :)

    I wonder why...... I’ve known I’m black. All. Of. My. Natural. Life. I know it already. I already know I’m African. I spend “so much time” on the mixtures because I DID NOT KNOW THOSE THINGS about myself. This test was taken to find out something I DONT ALREADY KNOW. So I spend time speaking about what I DONT ALREADY KNOW. Being African and from Congo / Cameroon does not surprise me. At all. I expected it. What I did NOT expect was to be ashkenazi Jewish... or Iberian.... or any of those other things. I wish y’all would stop coming on my video talking about this. I already know I am from Africa. Also. You’re curious about the African breakdown, I speak about it as clear as day 1:22-1:52. There is not much to talk about anyway... because there are only THREE SECTIONS. To which I already explain and address EVERYTHING shown on the page. What am I supposed to do. Make up Information I don’t know? I spoke about it as much as I was able to with the info 23andMe provided. The European and Asian mixes are literally broken up into like 13 different subsections. Simple math will tell you 3 is less than 13. So why do you expect me to expound for 25 minutes on 3 sections of African with no sub sections but to spend 2 minutes talking about 13 other categories combined? That makes no logical sense.

One of my great great grandfather's was an Italian missionary and the other great great grandpa on my mom's side was a German (probably a banker judging by the time period). My great grandfather is still alive and he's half German. Unfortunately, most of us black people aren't aware of the details on our black side beyond the negative history of slavery. To be honest, it would be great if they had a better break down of Africa. Maybe you can do the African Ancestry test to see the African breakdown better. 2 black geneticists made that one and they give a great cultural breakdown too.

    No, you are 100% black but 63% negro. There is a huge difference between ethnicity and race. Im a mixed black man myself, not as much as you, I have more north African in me. My children are 35% Negro. But I classify them as black. Its really an association. For instance, did you try dressing like a white person and see how people treat you?

  • @IAMLXGEND

    @IAMLXGEND

    6 жыл бұрын

    ::sigh:: what exactly does "dressing like a white person" mean. I'm sorry but those statements are extremely dumb. I dress how I dress. It's not "black" or "white". Why do we classify that? It's the same as racist police officers saying Travyon Martin dressed "like a thug" because he was wearing a hoodie. There is no such thing as dressing like a race, or acting a race. You can't "talk black" or "talk white". You can't "dress black" or "dress white". You either dress appropriately or not. You either act appropriately or not. There is no way to act, look, or dress like a white person/black person. Because that would mean that all black/white people would have to be exactly the same and they are not. I disagree with you 100% on this one. It's a very foolish way of thought. In our modern day society, black is a race and is exactly the same as negro. Reason being, we all came from Africa. If your statement is to say that negro is the ethnicity because it relates to us coming from Africa then black is exactly the same. Because black people....you guessed it....came from Africa. It's exactly the same. Anyway, I really don't want to get into this "dress lie a white person" shindig as I think it's the dumbest thing to say ever. I just wear clothes. People treat me exactly the same no matter how I dress. It has nothing to do with an association and everything to do with my genetics. I can't be 100% black if 1/3rd of my family genes came from Europe.

    1. I'm not doing any "racial ethnic cleansing crap" so idk what the heck you're talking about there. 2. I never once said a person who has a little percentage of African shouldn't be claimed as black or negro. I said they shouldn't be claimed as SOLELY that. Because that would be disregarding the other 91% of their DNA. We should be claiming them for WHO THEY ACTUALLY ARE. So if someone is 1% "negro" as you want to call it, then yes. They are of course negro. HOWEVER, that shouldn't mean the other 99% of them goes completely ignored and forgotten about. 3. Being European doesn't make me black, does it? No. So yes. My being 60% "negro" is the reason I am 60% "black". European heritage contributes nothing to that whatsoever. As European is considered mostly "white". Had I not been 60% negro, I would either be not black at all or I'd be a white person in denial. And in case you haven't checked, I am not Rachel Dolezal. So yes. I am black. But I am not 100% black. Nor am I 100% white. Because I am a mixed person who has percentages of BOTH of these in my blood. Thanks. To be 100% of one would mean there is no room for the other. I refuse to let either of my races negate the other completely. Black for white and white for black. I am who I am.

    I highly recommend it man! You really should. And it's really cheap for what it offers. Sometimes they even have sales. Although AncestryDNA tends to be the more popular choice, I recommend 23andMe because they have a lot more information as far as migration patterns so you can see exactly where your specific line of heritage migrated to and from as well as another option you can add on for health information found in your DNA. That is good for knowing what traits you'll pass down to your kids, what diseases you may be susceptible to or any other important information you may wanna look into. It's pretty dope man.

    It's a lot more involved than skin color. Peoples from different ethnicities, even way outside of Africa, can be black and have nothing culturally in common with each other. Same thing for white people. There are natives to the middle-east and other areas who are white but not the least bit European. Even within Europe and Africa, the skin colors are an umbrella for several different, yet similarly colored, ethnicities. So there is no such thing as a white or black person, or hispanic person. Identifying with a color is a substitute for people who dont know their deeper roots. It's an artificial barrier that's been encouraged by all sides for way too long. My family is very ethnically mixed, but the average person would (wrongly) pick me out as just another white person. But knowing better, I'd never identify myself that way. It's ok maybe if you dont have results to know where your ancestors come from, but just know that it's only skin... The beauty of DNA is that we can put away with the whole black pride/white pride argument and see the bigger picture of humanity's connectedness. If willing to see it. Like this guy in the video. He calls himself black because it's his color, but he embraces all aspects of his ancestry, as those are the people responsible for his existence and they're a part of him, even if he hadnt known it. How many people pride themselves above other ethnicities because they dont care to think they could be brothers.. It's pure, voluntary ignorance.

    Perhaps that 14 percent broadly NW European was just Scandinavian. What's funny is you and I are very similar. We look black but are about 1/3 white and 2/3 black. It's crazy to think that if we move to Africa, people will be more likely to accept us than if we move to some Scandinavian country. That said, African countries tend to be the most diverse countries genetically, with wide ranges of skin color, facial features, and body shapes. Hence, it would be a problem if Africans weren't as cosmopolitan as they are. On the flipside, native European populations are quite homogenous in appearance, hence the hostility when black and brown people migrate there (i.e. the extreme hostility faced by brown people moving to Norway and Germany).

Also, Native Americans stem from *some* Asians, because that's the direction their ancestors crossed the Bering Strait when first entering the American continent thousands of years ago. And, obviously, they still bear some similarity of their appearance. Also, unless your sibling from the same parents is your identical twin, you're never going to get the same percentage of various genes as them. Including genes marking your ethnic identity. Not EVER.

Which would effectively be me saying my grandfather and my dad and my grandmother do not exist and are not of value to me and my existence. No thanks.

  • @IslenoGutierrez

    @IslenoGutierrez

    4 жыл бұрын

    Tasheri Bi means 2. Biracial means made up of 2 races. Being 63% black and 34% white is being 2 races and thus, biracial. That’s more than the national black American average for European ancestry, but the average is not that far off. Black Americans are no longer black. Black was a term given to the fully Sub-Saharan African West African ancestors of black Americans. They were black. They were 97%-100% Sub-Saharan African DNA. They even were darker and had more Sub-Saharan African features than today’s black Americans. What is being called black today is no longer black, it’s biracial. Most blacks are around 75%-80% sub-Saharan African (black) and 20%-25% European (white). That is biracial. Yes, it’s a predominantly sub-Saharan African biracial, but still biracial nevertheless. When you have enough racial mixture to equal a grandparent, you’re biracial. White Americans are still white as their European ancestors and are still 97%-100% European in the USA. This is not the case for most black Americans (Gullah Geechee excluded) as black Americans on average have enough European ancestry equal to having a 100% European grandparent. That’s biracial. Black of today is not the black of the past, it’s an illusion today where in the past it was factual. The Gullah Geechee are the nations only true black people as they are 97%-100% Sub-Saharan African like their West African ancestors were. They are the black counterparts to today’s white Americans. “Black” Americans are mixed race folks, biracial people.

    I’m just going to say this. A lot of black people here are a tad bit disgruntled because you seem overly excited about your European ancestry but you don’t seem to care a single iota about your African side. Keep in mind us as Black Americans (yes I capitalized Black American) have had zero clues as to where in Africa we came from because of the slave trade. Now the opportunity has come for you to find out via “23 and Me” and you don’t care about Africa at all. All you seem to care about is proving to a group of people that you’re “one of them” and they still will NEVER accept you as part of their group. Also, you never seem to think to yourself that maybe it’s just possible that the white ancestry you’re so exhilarated about probably raped one of your ancestors. Why do I assume they were raped? Because interracial bindings were taboo back then. Well I said what I said. You are more than welcome to have the last word! However, I will not be responding back. It’s your life, I’m just adding my two cents.

  • @IAMLXGEND

    And I’m just going to say this: In 28 years of my life, how many of those years have I know that I was from Africa? 28. So how excited could one possibly be to find out information he already has known for the entirety of his life? How “shocked” would you be to look in the mirror and see you have brown eyes when for 3 decades you’ve been already looking in the mirror and seeing those same brown eyes every single day? Exactly. I took the test to find out what I DIDNT already know. Not to be fake shocked at what I’ve already known my entire life. And typical of you to 1: assume I “don’t care about Africa at all” (where TF do you get that idea from...) and 2: leave a comment like this and then run away because you don’t want to actually hear the TRUTH. And 3: assume that my GRANDMA was raped by my GRANDPA?????? Because my mix did NOT COME from hundreds of years ago... it literally came from them... who were born in the 1920’s... but yet again another person coming in my video assuming they know my family history and assuming I’m celebrating my family getting raped.... gee. Thanks.🤦🏾‍♂️ Carry on.
