This is the first video where I found someone that is way more prepared than me… normally these videos show me things I’ve already considered…. I learned something here!
Suggestion, Move the ifak from your headrest to the other headrest. This way you can reach it in an emergency that you are trapped. Also prestage your tourniquet on the outside of your ifak.

I second this recommendation.

Agreed. That's exactly how I store mine. Also, consider moving the glass breaker/seatbelt cutter to your visor, instead of the center console so you don't have to go digging for it in an emergency.

Did you know that this video and your comment was featured in an article that was posted in the U.S. Sun newspaper this week? www.the-sun.com/motors/9318585/automative-pro-prepper-essential-gear-winter-get-home-kit/
I’m from Michigan, and you clearly know what it’s like in the winter time. We carry essentially the same preps. When a power outage during a blizzard occurs- there’s going to be no one to save you. Just hate that we gotta bring half of the garage to be prepared for the road😂
I would add more for your emergency vehicle kit A glass breaker, or way to cut plexiglass and seatbelt cutter. A single walled stainless canteen and a larger container for water since you are in a truck. The lifestraw one won’t be useful if it’s frozen or need to gather water to boil or snow to melt. People don’t like Serpa holsters because you press in along the trigger guard and people end up drawing their pistol and continue to press down under stress. Also the button can get jammed with dirt and debris.
Great Show! Thanks

All very good and important items to have for yourself, family, friends and others. I have quite a few of some similar things in my truck, but you're organized and a lot more of essentials goes above and beyond. Major KUDOS to you and your family 👍! Thank you for your posting this! Take care. I have family in Idaho too. I've visited there and I like it. 🏔🏞🌄🏕🤠🤝☝🏽🙏🏽🕊.

Wow, thank you! And thanks for watching!
I carry that plastic shipping tape, like on fridge boxes and that works like a slim jim for opening the lever on a door from the inside. Just fold in half, crimp it with your teeth, shove it in the window and then manipulate it over the door latch, use wire and electrical tape with the strap to make a hook if it's keys on a seat or the floor. When doen roll like an ace bandage and zip tie it, about the size of electrical tape. Keep a couple shims in the kit to hold open the window easily. Great vid! I'm skipping around looking for vids, as I think about freshening up the supplies in my 53 yo truck. '02 truck? Just a baby!
Great video, very informative. Love your truck, my husband has an 04 SS and 03 dually.
Im also a painter i also am a framer and build decks on the side hear and there but i also always keep a fishing pole in my truck. I cant tell you how many jobs ive done that have private ponds loaded with bass it always makes for a awesome lunch break and gets me motivated to go into work early 😂😂😂
I have a similar setup but the fire extinguisher is mounted in the cab for quick access. To have to open a locked box to open another box and rummage around to grab an extinguisher takes a lot of time under stress, just ask me how I know. Also heavy pair of gloves on door and window breaker mounted on door as well with a second breaker mount on outside of overhead console. When you are upside down in your vehicle everything falls to the roof having a mounted breaker in reach is essential.
I agree 100%
Thanks for sharing, gave me ideas to add to my vehicle👍🏼

Regarding your slim jim door unlocking tool, that tool can be deadly with these newer cars with side airbags. This was device was invented years ago before all the airbags. People have gotten these slim Jim’s impaled through their throats by side airbags going off. The best and safest slim jim tow truck drivers use now to my knowledge are the ones like a thick coat hanger that slide between the door and the pillar and pop the door lock switches on armrest or side of door.
@idahoprepper

That’s how I use this slim Jim, between the door and the pillar.. I don’t slide it down the side of my window and try to unlock it through the mechanism inside the door .. but thanks for looking out! And thanks for watching!!

Be careful thinking you are gonna syphon gas from newer vehicles. They have a screen down in the filler neck to prevent that. Have to knock it out or pu ch a hole in the top corner of the tank.
I definitely would add a tarp and a bivy and wool blanket but nice setup!

That is a lot of stuff. Like, a lot. Now, I’ve never been to Idaho but I imagine it gets pretty cold. From personal experience a woobie is not enough to keep you warm in the winter. I would recommend getting a very warm sleeping bag. Those SOL products don’t really perform.

A lot of stuff for a truck? Or for a get home bag?
@PA_LF
10 ай бұрын
@@idahoprepper both? Maybe more so the truck. Spare boots and clothes are smart. There is a lot of redundancy (which I’m certain instances can be a good thing) but two sets of jumper cables… I don’t think it’s that instance. I live north where it snows and gets pretty cold. In the winter I keep a wool blanket, boots, traction boards, food, water, stove and fuel with metal cup, sleeping bag, and an extra puffy down jacket. Also, the same warm stuff for my family members. Also, how many riots are you getting in Idaho? Didn’t think that was a hotbed for civil unrest.

Why not carry a spare parka and leggings too?
Just wondering why the jumper cables AND battery jump starter? I've got the same decision and was trying to decide if I need both. Interested in your thought process.
@davidb9323

You can create fire with the cables and they don’t rely on being charged or maintained.
@IdahoOverlandAndExploration

The battery jump boxes are usually only good for about 2 jump starts without being recharged. Also, being that it is electrical, it can fail. Always good to have a set of physical jumper cables because they will always work.
@jcar1417
9 ай бұрын
I carry both with the thought process that the jump box is to get me going, the jumper cables is to get someone else going. Also the old adage two is one, one is none.
@idahoprepper

The battery is only good for a couple starts, and sometimes if it sits too long it will lose its charge and not work.. you have to refresh the charge on those batteries at least once a year!

Set your truck up for what works for YOU!! What works for one might not work for someone else!! Better to have and not need than to need and not have!! For instance, i dont carry a glass breaker as i always have at least one knife on me plus i have knives all over in my truck, thats what works for me. If someone has ever been in a life or death situation they know what comes naturally works best. If your ifak is where youre used to having it and youre comfortable where its at, thats where you need it!
