I sometimes think the Bible journaling "movement" has spoiled Bible study for so many people. The expectations of creative decorating and color codes can be totally overwhelming. The point of Bible study is to STUDY, not decorate. I think the same with too many Bible reading plans. I’m actually glad you discovered how much more enriching and fulfilling it is to just study the Word.

this!! i ruined so many bibles with leaky messy high lighters and markers. trying to make them look "aesthetic." nope! mine i use now i only use one kind of black ink pen to underline and make notes. sometimes it smears and the pages don't look aesthetic or instagram but that's not the point!! the point is for me to be in the word and getting something from it. i think a lot of people use bible journaling and posting pictures of their pretty bibles for likes make it into an idol of sorts. there's one instagram user i follow whose pages are so so covered she can't even read what's underneath but she gets so many likes and followers praising how pretty and aesthetic it is. its sad.

I can totally see how that would be the case! For me it’s very discouraging to have a vision of how I want to do something and not be happy with its fulfillment and then giving up. I would much rather know God and seek Him sincerely, with some element of creativity mixed in because that’s just how He made me, but without pressure or expectation

@@elyselovesjesus , and isn’t that a problem with social media? We used to only feel pressure about XYZ from people we actually knew or had direct contact with. Now we allow ourselves to feel it from the entire world. We each have to learn to stop seeing expectations every time we see someone else do something better than we do or even want to do.

I have had a similar experience with bible journaling…I was into the decorating, and it did take me deeper in to the Bible, helping me look closer than I might otherwise. However… it was taking soooo long. I’ve gone to a a much simpler style now, if I do it at all. I’m still a huge proponent of it, but for me personally it became too much to do daily.

You encouraged me, thank you ❤ I had wanted a new Bible and I stumbled onto the world of coloring bibles and Journaling. It is really cool, but I'm not artistic in this way. It became overwhelming for me too. Life is hard for me too some among the blessings. I've been wanting to just read and study and journal and learn without all the extra. Just getting g started but I do feel better. Blessings sister.

@elyselovesjesus I also was interested in why the tower of babel was such a sin so I dug a little deeper. Nimrod (Noah's great grandson) and his wife Semiramis were calling themselves "gods" and people were worshipping them as such. Nimrod was building the tower to reach the heavens so he could rule as "god" of course this was a direct sin, and an abomination to the Lord. Nimrod and Semiramis, who gave herself the title Queen of Heaven and would later be referred to as Isis in the pagan religion, were committing terrible acts. Such as blood sacrifices (human) and a bunch of other stuff you can read about. So it wasn't necessarily the tower that was a sin, but everything it represented and who was building it. When Nimrod was murdered....Semiramis claimed she gave birth to his reincarnated soul and married her own Son and ruled. She has a ton of titles and names (besides Isis) she had people leave gifts for Nimrod under an evergreen tree and many say this is actually how we got the tradition of a Christmas tree and leaving presents under it....but there is a ton of conflicting opinions about this theory. It's a can of worms for sure! It's hard to say if that's correct or not as I've read so many articles for and against this theory and they are all convincing in their own way. Anyway hopefully you found this as interesting as I did!

This video has been incredibly helpful and comforting to me thank you so much for aharing. I spend about 6-10 hours listening to bible study videos and also a lot of people's videos of their methods and plans ect. I am recently delving back into the word after like 7 year hiatus after i left ministry school, and in that hiatus i had a lot of traumatic experiences that impacted my memory and a lot of my comprehension, but i wasnt aware of that until i sat down to really dig in. Ive been slowly collecting some resources and most days I struggle with depression and anxiety that prevents me from doing what i really want to be doing, and your video really resonated with me in a lot of those ways. Thank you

Ah I am so so sorry to hear about your trauma and struggles 😭❤️‍🩹 I will pray that the Lord would be with you and uplift you with His strength and start showing you one step at a time forward. I just finished genesis last night and Joseph’s story really impacted me. He suffered for 13 years unjustly but God allowed it for His good purposes. May we both hold on to that truth.. He is the same God and He sees and loves us and knows our every struggle.

This was so encouraging! I am feeling the same way and feel like I get so overwhelmed when I study because I feel like I need to learn everything about the passage I’m reading and write it all down but then it slows me down and I get too worried about it so it stops me. I needed this! Thank you!

I also looking at it as- it’s fun to leave space and not learn every single thing or fill every single inch of margin because then we can go back and learn more and write more in months and years to come!! We don’t have to know and do it all right this minute 😅❤ May He meet you and bless you in your studies this week 💘

I took have struggles lately and part of it is more demands on my time but mostly is that superficial reading/studying is not enough but I feel overwhelmed trying to fit in deep study everyday. I believe the Lord is guiding me toward something that is going to pull my focus on Him and not on being good enough or doing it "right". I'm still working out my plan. Lol. Hi . thanks for sharing your video . I note that you mentioned that your Bible does not have pretty art and other decorative items. I don't think ones bible need to have these over elaborate art and stickers. To me it very distracting. The Bible is for us to know The LORD better and grow in our walk with Him.

It is good to make sure you aren't falling victim to "The captivity of activity" in that you are spending all your time distracted by making your bible study notes pretty and KZread/Instagram worthy and you forget that the purpose of bible study is a relationship with God and to learn and hear from Him. How pretty it is, what colors and accessories you use is irrelevant. I have found that the prettier someone's bible is with Modge podge, water colors, cutsy stickies, the less time they are actually seeking God and the more time they are spending seeking the approval of "man".
