Nice Edd, We are different build (I am shorter and likely quite a bit heavier ) so race day choice will be different , but the velocity and the speed 3 are also in my training group. Have a fantastic training block. I am one of those sad peeps who actually prefers the training then the races themselves 🤣

I'm also doing Brighton as my 1st official marathon, did a 50km Ultra in October but still counting Brighton as my first marathon. I'll be using all Nike trainers to train as that's all I own! Pegasus 39 when dry. Pegasus 39 Shield when wet. Invincible 2 for easy/long runs. Vaporfly 2 for intervals. Pegasus 4 trail goretex for any trail runs. And just ordered version 1 Alphaflys as they were 40% off on Pro direct website, my least favourite colour but couldn't argue with that price! The only brand/shoe that's tempted me to try something besides Nike so far is the Saucony Pro 3, I almost bought them instead of the Alphaflys but decided to try the Alphaflys while the 1st version is still available and maybe get the Pro 3 at a later date for another marathon one day!

Good to hear you are training for a marathon. I am as well but earlier - bit scarily now "next month" in Seville. Are you going to be following sort some of training plan? Whatever be good to see a few videos on your training. Longest runs so far have been 21 miles in the NEXT% v1 (of course), 19 Prime X & 18 Endorphin Speed 2 RUNSHIELD is descending order of relative "ease" but Prime X is a nice cruiser. Just need to decide if going to use the NEXT% v1 or v2 in the race and did also get some v2 in the recent sales. Intervals & MP work hard to look past the NEXT% again but done a few shorter ones in the Endorphin Pro 3 and I might give the Alphafly 2 and Adios Pro 3 the odd further go. Daily training mainly a Pegasus - 39 regular on a dry day, 39 Shield on a wet day and Trail 4 GTX if want to do road/trail run and even still the Next Nature. Also used the Velocity Nitro 2 the other day but on a "rare" dry day! adidas SL and Ghost 15 got recently but better sat sulking in a corner :)

Happy new year, Ed! I did 20.23 miles in the Strung on January 1 since it felt appropriate, as a long run shoe it remains nearly infallible. Invincible in the rotation too for daily miles, and NB More V4 and Pegasus Trail 4 Gore-Tex on the way, especially excited about the Pegs for snowy days. Haven’t run long in the Adios Pro 3 yet but barring any issues I think that will be my go-to race shoe this year.

My rotation for the Atlanta Marathon at the end of February has been nova blast 3 for recovery runs unless I’m really sore then the Invincible Run come out, Adidas Pro 2 for speed workouts (although swapping in my new Pro 3’s as well), long runs have been either the Prime X Strung or VF’s. Scored a screaming deal on a pair of AF-1’s and will be working those in to see if that will be the race day shoe or go with the VF’s

Solid rotation, Edd! Not surprising from someone who gets to try so many shoes, but you nailed it. For what it's worth, mine is (and yes, I know: I'm a bit of a Nike fanboy...) : - Easy runs / Daily runs : Vomero 16 (Infinity 2) - Marathon Pace / Threshold : Tempo Next% (Vaporfly 4%) - Long runs (with a lot of MP inside) : Hoka Mach 5 (Alphafly 1) (the shoes between parenthesis are those when I'm especially tired and I need some extra comfort/assistance) My race day shoes are the Vaporfly Next% : the 1 if I'm in a PR shape (my favourite shoe of all times, but I don't have any more backup pair), the 2 if I'm not.

Can’t quite decide if I’ll race in the VF2, Endorphin Pro 3, or the Adios Pro 3… plenty of time to decide as I’m doing London! These will all be used in marathon-specific workouts; Reebok Energy X and Saucony Ride 15 are my long/easy day stuff, Puma Magnify for the recoveries, and I’ll still do some speed work in the Adios Pro 1/Takumi Sen 8 I think!

Great video(as always:-)) thanks. I personally love the Lightstrike Pro with energy rods combo of Adidas the most for race days. I am so nuts about it that I am actually considering using my Tacumi Sen 8s(after sorting out the lacing) for the full Marathon distance end of Jan. Furthermore, I like any shoe from Asics that uses their guidesole tec for training, e.g. Glideride 3 for bulk training miles and long runs, with the Noosa Tri 14 for Tempo days.

Edd! Great race day shoe choice! I train largely in low stack racing flats, reserving the Vaporflys for a few long runs and the Boston Marathon itself. I'm thinking I shouldn't put more than about 60 to 70 miles in them prior to the race. My previous pair seemed to lose a lot of their magic around 90 to 100 miles...still have them and may use them for a few long runs. What do you think?

I know you weren’t that happy with the 38’s but I loved mine, but as you said the 39’s are better. Then I have endorphin speed 2. For tempo/threshold. I love the feel of the foam and the plate. The quicker you run the more you get back. Then my race shoe is the Alphafly V1. The foam and squash is amazing. I feel it works perfectly for me at the moment. 👍🏼💪🏼👟

I'd agree the Vaporfly Next% 2 would be my race shoe for the marathon in the first half of 2023, although I'd have a backup plan to use the Vaporfly Next% 1 with Vaporweave if the course will be wet on the day. Did a couple of half marathons in them during torrential rain/flooded course and found the Vaporweave upper did not hold any water to keep the weight down. It also dries very quickly compared to shoes with mesh uppers.

Love your videos Edd! They're like little bright spots sprinkled into my week ...even though my wife and kids roll their her eyes if they happen to walk into the room and sees shoes on the TV! :) I'm a longtime runner but training for my first ever marathon (Calgary Marathon in May ...Canada's longest running marathon) and this is my current rotation: Daily trainer: Novablast 3 Long run trainer: Prime X (finally bit the bullet on it, thanks to a 40% promo code I got my hands on) Raceday: Endorphin Pro 3 (most comfortable and awesome shoe I've even worn) Trail : Sense Ride 4 (not needed for my training really but I love trail running - would love to try out the Peg 4 Trail at some point) I would also love to try Vaporfly's at some point, but can't really see myself switching from the Pro 3's. I've been liking the fit of my Pro 3's so much that I'd like to consider a Saucony shoe as my next daily trainer once I replace my NB 3's in 2-3 months. I've heard a lot of good things about the Speed 3's, but not sure if they're ideally suited as a daily shoe? Or are they? Sounds like the Shift 3 is the intended daily trainer in the Endorphin line, but I don't much about it. And I've also heard good things about the Kinvara and Tempest (not so much the Triumph). Any daily trainer (from Saucony) recommendations? I quite like my NB 3's, but find them to fit a bit long and just find my Pro 3's to be ultra comfortable (if that level of minimal upper and comfort might be available in Saucony's others shoes). Thanks again Edd for your awesome channel.

Should it predict an absolute downpour I may swap the Vaporfly out for the Adios Pro 2, as it may be better in the rain?. Rodney - Yeah, well, you try and have a nice kip, eh? Thanks My rotation is Velocity Nitro 2 (30 miles in them) for easy, shorter 'long' runs, possibly Triumph 20 for longer, but they have 400 miles in them. But was thinking of using Speed 2 (100 miles) for Marathon pace, tempo/interval and + 20 long runs as so comfy and protect the legs. Ultimate goal to purchase Endorphin Pro 3 beginning of April (my vitality/runners need 50% discount kicks in 🤣) to use for last couple of weeks to bed in then use for race day. What are you thoughts? Thanks for excellent content on your channel and this one specifically at just the right time. Keep up the great work. 👍 Running London, first ever Marathon.

Maybe I missed something but didn't you complain about foot pain in the Alphaflys in your 100 miles review video? Also expected to see Metaspeed Sky+ make the cut. Marathon start of June for me, currently looks like Vomero 16, Ghost 14 and NB 1080v12 for the bulk of it. Endorphin speed 2 occasionally if I'm feeling the strain, and Adios Pro 2 for racing and of course some outings coming up to race day.

I am doing an ultra in May and a Ironman 70.3 in June. So kind of training for both! I’m really happy with my shoe rotation which I have just about got dialled in: Daily trainer - Novablast 2 and Peg 39 Speed work - Noosa Tri 14 Long run - Glideride 3 Trail - NB More trail V2 I don’t need a really fast shoe because my goal races don’t really require me to go fast! And the Noosa Tri 14 will be perfect for a few local 10k and half marathon races etc during the training block. Also, last year I found I actually performed better in the Noosa Tri 13 than the Endorphin Pro 2, so going to stick to the non plated race shoe this year and see how we get on!
