Hey Kym! Thanks for the vids. Can you do a vid about guarding yourself against theft and pickpockets when travelling? You must take some precautions with all that expensive kit you carry with you.

I am assuming the camera gears doesn't go with him everywhere just from airport hotel and the track. I have used PackSafe bags but it does slow you down a lot. Keeping it hard for pickpocket is also hard to keep you from accessing it. Also if you are sure of these pickpocket areas, have false wallets, don't wear expensive watches and jewelry.

Kurt, I travel with almost as much gear as Kym. One pro-tip: I use a Lowepro Protactic 450 AW ii back loading bag. Now, while it's a back loader it still has easy access zips on the outside. I use zip-ties and close ALL of these access points. I'm often in very crowded places and have felt people tugging on the zippers trying to get in.
@alphatumeric

Newer Manfrotto bags prevents theft easily but you still need to do with cable ties and locks on zips. Zips on their bags make so much noise, so even if pickpockets were to come close, the bag will alert you.
So much has changed in the digital photo segment since I took drag racing photos in the 1970s with my Canon F1 equipment.
I do love the bloopers at the end of your videos Kym. It shows the real life struggle of making such polished content.
Been shooting for 40 years and the best thing I ever bought was a microfiber towel for my bag. Packs small, opens large, dries in no time....acts as extra protection in the bag too. It's the only thing you're lacking!!!
The bokeh balls from the f/1.2!!! R3 is an amazing camera. I have an R6 Mkii with a grip (poor man’s version of the R3). Thanks for another great video!

Since I'm only a hobbyist photographer I will prefer using a DSLR over mirrorless - my eyes still prefer an optical viewfinder over an electronic one - but if I took photos for my job I would absolutely be mirrorless all the way. The focus tricks these cameras can pull are just outstanding. I had a go on my friend's nikon Z 7 and I couldn't believe how sticky and fast the focus points were. No doubt one day I'll make the switch but there's still life in my loyal DSLR, so until it dies on me I'll stick with it. Great video as always Kym.

The good old pro DSLRs are as good and fast as it gets. Just missing the modern focusing modes. On the other hand u can be pretty sure that werever you point your d5,d500,d850 etc , that's exactly where the camera will focus. The performance reached levels that will never be really outdated imho. I shoot mirror less now but zero issue with going back. Actually the viewfinder turns out not to be a concern really.

a decent modern EVF is a god send. I was very hesitant and had had bad EVF experiences in the long past (Sony RX100 II EVF, which was truly horrid). I wouldn't go back to an OVF these days. I love my R3's EVF, it's amazing - no black out, large, bright, not cluttered with information and just makes my job easier (like you, I am not a pro, but just a hobbyist). Even my R10's EVF is good enough for me to get the job done without getting cranky at it.
lovely, I'm doing ski and snowboard photography. I carry a lot less but I still have to ski all the runs as my athletes who are from 1/2 to 1/4 my age. They are such beautiful people though. I love it!
I love those gear videos. actually i came to your channel via one of those gear talks three years ago. so keep going with them. I guess a lot more photographers will come across your channel through those kinds of videos. Greetings from Austria :)
Hi Kim, I hope you are reading this while in good health! One thing I'd be interested to see if you're looking for video ideas at some point (if you've not made it already), is maybe a look into what you believe makes a great motorsport photography professional, beyond just skill at actually taking photos. I'm talking things such as being able to edit and post photos very quickly after or during a session, using social media, tailoring images for instagram (i.e using different crops and aspect ratios if this is something you do) and all that sort of stuff. I feel like we are all acutely aware of just how amazing you are at taking photos (especially personal/human elements of drivers), however I imagine there is even more skill going on beneath the surface that allows you to be the top professional you are, beyond your vast knowledge of how to take a good photo😅. Another interesting video (if you'd be willing to reveal it) could be a look into how you plan for a race weekend from a photography standpoint. For example, whether you plan to be at certain parts of the track (or the paddock) for certain sessions, based on lighting conditions and where "the action" is happening. Anyway, thank you a lot for the video. It's interesting as a very amateur photographer seeing what the best guys in the business carry gear wise (it can't be easy carrying all that equipment haha). Your videos are always thoroughly enjoyable, relaxing, and very informative! Cheers from the UK!
Hi Kym, have been following your vids since 2020. Would love to see a video on what you do to edit photos and the difference between raw and edited photos.

I send images to my iPhone. Do you just prefer the resolution on the Google Kym?
I rocked the BR straps for awhile but found that I was smashing a dangling camera while leaning in close to shoot something with the other. The weight on my back also took its toll... I've been much happier with the weight on my hips, a la hiking, using the Spyder system. It also makes it easy to get on and off the ground w/o bashing your bodies like the paddock image you showed of you on the ground. I'm still shooting D4s bodies but am looking forward to going mirrorless. Thanks for sharing, though you didn't elaborate on the use of your Profoto shoe-mounted strobe nor the internet device thing you mentioned that you've since replaced in your worklfow. NPS/CPS aren't at hotel and resort shoots so I have to clean my own sensors - Especially since I'm camped out > f/16 most of the time for images of spaces.

Great video Kym! I was wondering if you could do a video about what equipment you used to bring or even wish to bring or have in the future/things you’ve learnt over your time being a photographer for motorsports
The only thing that surprised me was having an extra eye piece on hand. Do you really have to change it out often? Or is it more of an insurance "just in case" kind of thing?
Awesome information. I appreciate it !!
That stream deck is such a good idea, I’m going to have to remember that
Nice equipment list, only question why use the Prophoto speedlight when the Canon EL-1 has far better specs? The low power burst is insane! Makes it amazing for mixing ambient with a tiny pop of flash, the Prophoto can't do that.
Great vid!

Friends on discord all said turn on airplane mode. Canon CPS think it's a mainboard issue and want me to test further (camera only, EF to RF adaptor only, lens back on etc). I'm also now experiencing hard lockups with my R3, suspected culprit is my mark 1 1.4x TC when being used with my 500f4 (also a mark 1).
