Sadly it's 4 years (OR never) as they're anticipating they won't be able to produce enough before the new generation of 70 series come out in 2026! It's a crazy time we live in

    Thanks for your efforts in putting together such a good video. I am considering something like this (same colour) but with a tub and canopy. So just wondering why you opted for this tray instead of a tub? It might be that your set-up (as I don't know what your canopy looks like), affords more access all around the vehicle. Could that be it? Cheers for now & I look forward to following you on KZread.

  • @JCYT

    @JCYT

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the feedback and the sub! Hope you enjoy the stay. I previously had the "style-side" tub with an ARB canopy in my hilux and i found that access and storage options were quite limited. Your main access is from the rear tail gate and with a lifted 4WD, it's quite difficult to access through the side windows unless you're 6ft+. Maybe check out the video when i picked up my 79 and i explain it a bit more there. The tray alone has 3 compartments for storage (a huge trundle and two undertray boxes). You are totally right about the access - that is my primary reason for choosing a tray and canopy setup. Come back in maybe 6 months for the video "Taking delivery of my Norweld canopy" haha!

  • @francisamiller7493

    @francisamiller7493

    Жыл бұрын

    @@JCYT Thanks matey. I am wondering how waterproof your canopy will be. So that'll be interesting for me. If it's waterproof, gives easier access and is relatively secure, then I am onboard with it. I live in the bush on the Coffs Coast, so there's much about the 79 that suits this neck of the woods. Cheers & take care - Blinky

  • @JCYT

    @JCYT

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for watching! You're gonna love it It was between Lovells 4.2 or OME 3.95 for me. I did not consider TJM due to two local TJM dealerships around me closing. I have always been a fan of ARB products and their customer service. My local ARB Thornleigh were great to deal with when i had my Hilux and are very professional. If your 79 is due soon i'd suggest sorting the suspension out ASAP as the BP51s were a 7 month wait last July. All the best with it!

I had also looked into the new dmax prior but definitely dodged a bullet with that one. I am at the moment really appreciating having the cabin and tray completely separate especially as when going away, things can get muddy real quick. Morning mate No i haven't swapped out yet. Still the offset correction wheels. My plan is the dwizz track correction next year. I carry only one spare -12 offset as it will work best as a spare all round. Yes it will technically put more stress on the rear drivetrain due to mismatched offset but as a spare it will get you out of trouble.

    They are an amazing vehicle! Definitely an important question for us living in city areas. With the 110mm + spacer Rhino platform, OME 2" lift and 34s i can fit JUST under a 2.2m carpark. The highest part of the car is 2.15m - the solar panel which adds 35mm on top of the rack. Yes those are extremely tight and uncomfortable clearances and I have a photo of the 79 literally centimetres from the carpark ceiling. Not a good feeling but you get used to it haha. Worse case i destroy the solar panel but that's better than damaging the headboard of the tray.

    OMG, you give Toyota a pat on the back for this car and after listening to all the faults in your 79 and the money Toyota charge for these things, it's getting close to a scam. But anyone to there own I guess, it doesn't matter what I think, you love it and that's all that matters. The amount of things you need to change to make these a good 4WD is just crazy. Just one question on your rear wheel off set, most don't recommend going this way, rather spending another 3 or 4k on whole axle replacement, I think this wheel offset idea is by far the cheapest and easiest way to fix this silly design fault, how do you find it.

  • @JCYT

    @JCYT

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for watching. I respect your views and I genuinely believe Toyota have done a great job. The way i see it - you spec up ANY australian utility to perform in harsh conditions the cost will be close to the same. But there simply is no rival to the longevity and reliability of the 70 series platform. The cheapest axle replacement i find acceptable to my standard is the DWIZ diff which is probably closer to 10k fitted (axle replacement). To me, that's 10k i don't need to spend and whilst i agree the offset wheels will cause greater stress on the bearings, i'm ok with servicing these bearings earlier than compared to the bearings in an axle replacement. Cheap, and easy to do. The offset correction via wheel offsets for me is purely aesthetic. I don't spend much time in sand. That said i know and have felt the benefit to offset correction especially in sand driving. We were at Moreton Island earlier this year. The 79 went extremely well loaded right up. The sand can get incredibly soft there and i can only imagine what it would have been like for both wheels to create their own tracks given they do not track the same width. Sorry that's as far as i can say regarding this - i haven't driven a stock 79 without offset correction.

  • @Renegade040

    @@JCYT thanks for the reply and I agree with doing the wheel offset compared to installing a whole corrected rear axle assembly, the cost is way silly. Others have done the offset route and never had bearing problems, maybe just a furphy to get customers to buy a new rear axle. This is my main gripe with Toyota, in the manufacturing process it wouldn't cost them much at all to correct it then. Also agree, 70 series is very unique and when they are fully modified are a great touring/off road vehicle, but just way out off my price range. The other item I wish Toyota would do, is give there customers an option of a auto transmission and a coil suspension, but I think that's asking for to much.
