My 2021 Silverado engine BLEW UP!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I wish I didn't have to post this video but my 2021 Chevy Silverado LT Trailboss 6.2 has left me stranded! This is a really unfortunate issue plaguing GM vehicles right now and unfortunately I was one of the unlucky ones! I will update y'all whenever they update me, really hoping this issue is resolved properly!

@KCBOBX by not shutting off half the motor. GM was actually pretty smart and they changed the way it works. It's a variable V4 which means that it doesn't just fire the same 4 cylinders, it still fires all the cylinders it's just half as much. The effective result is that you just have the engine firing half as much, but you still need to maintain the RPM which is. So by using that stored energy to keep it rotating at the same speed, but firing less, you get a better gas milage. Edit: typo

Towed to the dealer with them saying one of the cylinders has lost compression caused by a broken spring or collapsed lifter. They will crack it open tomorrow to officially check the cause. This problem is so common, I was fixing one in my repair shop when the Snap on tool salesman came in, he told me every shop he went to in the last week had at least one of these GM V8s apart for the same thing. Its pretty much every GM V8 from 2014 and up, most of the time the engine has to be pulled out to change the camshaft, sometimes your lucky and only have to remove the cylinder heads. There is a thing where people have made a tool to unstick the lifter but I did that on one and it didn’t last a month.

I have '19 LT (new style) with over 57K miles and luckily have had no major issues. My truck has the Borla Type-S cat-back exhaust, K&M cold air intake. Only recurring minor issue (for now) is the sudden jerking in low gear which is attributed to the 8L90 transmission. This issue has been occuring since before the factory warranty had expired, but the dealer cannot mover forward unless there is a service bulletin that will allow GM to cover the cost. Fortunately I have an extended warranty up to 120K miles. I received the Pulsar LT and will install today and hopefully see positive changes from my engine. Trucks have truly come a long way. I also have a '90 S-10 with179K miles with orginal motor and transmission and spend about $4k to get it up and running. FYI still running the same transmissino oil for the past 30 years and she purrs like a kitten

I feel bad for you. My Story, I picked up a brand new Chevy Traverse on Friday. Took the family for a ride on Sunday and felt something weird in the trans and took it back to the dealer on Monday. I did not test drive the vehicle before I signed on the dotted line. I just turned in the same model I leased 2 years earlier. I requested a new vehicle. I came back with 60 miles on the SUV. They looked at me like I had three eyes. They settled me down, gave me a loaner. Weeks went by and couldn't figure out what was wrong. I pushed again for them to find me a NEW replacement vehicle, Not a fixed vehicle. 4 weeks go by with no resolution and I figure out, the only thing the dealer wants to do is FIX the car. They didn't make the car, they sell cars and fix cars. Finally after 6 weeks, they say they flew in an expert and figured out what was wrong, then replaced the whole transmission. They then said, come and pick up your new car. My recommendation, pitch a bitch at the dealer but you need to get to the people responsible for engineering and building that vehicle in the first place. Somebody did not do their job at GM and you are having to pay for it. Like you said, how are you going to trust this vehicle in the future? You need to get the dealer to pony up the Note until you get your truck back. Your finance company isn't going to care if its in service.

A lot of people say that Consumer Reports is being biased towards gm when it comes to stating that a large percentage of their vehicles are Average, Worst Than Average or Much Worst Than Average, I would have to say that it is not true that C.R. is being that way based on the number of brands that have been killed off through gm due to their unsuccessful approach to compete with other brands (Pontiac, Saturn, Oldsmobile) along with every vehicle within the currently existing brands that also hit the " Chopping Block", mainly their cars. The Class Action Lawsuits along with these type of videos further proves that gm is not making reliability out of its current line of Pick Up Trucks like they used to and the Silverado can't even snatch up a Motor Trend Truck of The Year Award like it did in the 2000's and earlier, the main thing is, I've been driving gm trucks since 2007 and luckily, I haven't had any issues yet. If I get a redesigned 2024/2025 Sierra and I go through what I'm seeing on this video or even hear multiple reports about an engine failure on ill become my new "Pride and Joy" to drive.

I think it is only affecting the Mexican made trucks. You can pay a little extra and get one made in Fort Wayne Indiana. The ones put together in Mexico are using cheap chinese parts in the engines and transmissions.

I had a 2020 Silverado RST with 12,000 miles 5.3L 8 Speed transmission. It was dog crap. Transmission had the bad Chevy shutter. Torque converter replaced once. Transmission fluid replaced twice. Finally traded the truck for a 2021 GMC Sierra 2500 duramax 6.6L. Very glad I got rid of the Silverado.
