is not that “orange caramel” is better, it’s true that they are more popular but also because they started a lot of trends in kpop, it was the first kpop group with a concept like that and they were really influential to a lot of kpop groups like cocosori, wjsn chocome, momoland, etc

After School is iconic! My fave song of theirs is called "Flashback"; it's a bop and a half. That heavily autotuned sound is really widespread in 2nd gen K-pop, but it's especially a trademark of the earlier music by Brave Brothers, who composed all of these songs except for "Shampoo" and "Bang!". He's also behind a good chunk of Sistar's discography and the group Brave Girls as a whole. The best word to describe Orange Caramel is "camp": they're very high-energy, over-the-top, and weird in the greatest possible way. My fave song of theirs is "Catallena". After School were kind of like the "older sisters" of NU'EST and Seventeen. A few members of Seventeen have been in music videos for After School, Orange Caramel, and NU'EST.

After School is an incredible group. They were Pledis' first group and they were iconic, especially when it came to dance. They constantly surprised us with different styles of dance and performances. They had like a rotation/graduation concept where the idea was members can be added over time while others would "graduate" from the group. Essentially meaning the group will always be there but the line up would change over time. Though they never formally disbanded, the group has been inactive since 2015 (?) , and I believe all but 1 member has since left the company. Though some of the members did reunite earlier this year for a performance of "Bang!" And yes, please react to Orange Caramel, they were also iconic because they were quite "unconventional" when it came to their concept. Also please add Nu'est to your list when you have a chance. They're essentially the brother group to After School and they have a Christmas song with Orange Caramel.

there actually is a drumline entrance version to the song bang. they had a reunion fairly recently that was pretty emotional ! they were amazing live. normally this is where i would plug orange caramel as their subunit, but i feel like their oddness may not be your style. still, their creativity could be really fun to check out and follow, if only for the videos.

Bang! remains iconic. You should listen to Diva and Flashback, those two are also great. Maybe, you can watch Bang performed by Seventeen in their pre-debut days haha that song is an anthem for pledis trainees. Hope you can react to Nu'est in the future, they're also so talented. ^^

25:35 "This is like a completely different group" well, mostly it's because almost all of the original members are already not there by that time :(( Afterschool had a graduation system. And they were supposed to keep going on even after the departure of the members but idk, Pledis is just sht in handling girl groups. According to the members, Afterschool is technically disbanded now.

"because of you" is definitely a gay mv period. also the rappers were kahi and bekah (blonde)! a very cool thing is kahi, the oldest and leader, debuted at the age of 29 and has always been one of the more well known members! Kahi's definitely an all rounder and i wish she released more music as a solo artist. More recently, she's known for her role in Produce 101 as a dance mentor. Another member Jungah was also in her mid 20s during their debut and part of the original line up, she's also a main vocal. Raina was added a year later as a main vocalist as well! lizzy (also added in 2010) and kahi were lead vocals. ill stop there or ill ramble considering how many members were added, bUT after school was absolutely amazing and always trained and did something different for their major korean comebacks- from tap dancing, drumming, and pole dancing! They were also popular in japan.

I’m so happy to see someone reacting to After School! IMO they are a staple 2nd gen group. One of my favorite things about them is for many of their comebacks they learn a new skill; for example they learned drumming for Bang and pole dancing for First Love!

Here's an interesting story about the founding and development of Pledis Ent: There was once a dancer from SM Entertainment and YG who later became BOA's manager. And after acquiring knowledge, in 2007, he decided to found his own company. The name of his company was Pledis Entertainment, the same year he founded it, he debuted his first artist Son Dam Bi, who achieved success in South Korea. In 2009, debuted After School became a great success but made the mistake of making the group with a graduation system. Then he made the biggest mistake, he sent the group to Japan to promote and have concerts when they were at the top in South Korea. This last mistake was repeated with Nu'est years later. Nu'est was in a very good position from their debut but after the first Comeback that did not become a success, Pledis sent them to Japan to promote for a long time. When Nu'est returned to Korea, EXO was already leading the market. Then, after years of having a very large debt and almost going bankrupt, Pledis decided to team up with Brand New Entertainment to create a project called Seventeen project, Pledis would train them in everything except Hip Hop, which would be the area where Bran New would train the trainees to become rappers. Hyelim, a choreographer famous for working for SM decided to switch over to Pledis and help out on the project. Also Bumzu, another Pledis artist, was one of those in charge of providing the vocal training. The Seventeen project lasted for years and no one expected the trainees to be interested in learning to do things on their own.

"Because of You" is honestly one of my all-time favorite K-pop songs, and that's saying a lot after following the K-pop scene since 2007. It just hits differently. And it's the first song that got them super famous. Also, After School's leader Kahi was a legendary dancer for BoA. She and a former manager of SM Entertainment built up Pledis. She handpicked the trainees who'd eventually join After School, the group formed for her and around her. She's an absolute star. She also had a hand in picking the first few male trainees in Pledis, who eventually debuted as Nu'est and Seventeen members. :)

The special things about After School is that the two eldest members of After School debuted at the age almost 30. kahi (one with most scene in Because of You), the leader, eldest member of After School was very famous for her dance since she was a former Back-up dancer. After School was also famous for their Dance and Performance at that time, too. Beside from Dance, their slow beat songs, acoustic songs are good, too. i.e. With U, When I Fall, My Bell, Play Ur Love, Lady. The last 2 were my favorite. Pledis Artist from the begining to now : Son Dambi (Female Solo), After School (Unofficial Disband - Girl Group), Nu'est, Seventeen, Pristin (Official Disbanded Girl Group)

THEY’RE THE 1st GG OF PLEDIS! Sondambi is their pioneer aka Female Rain. Pledis is good at scouting talents. After School has this concept of Graduation, pretty much like AKB48. Kahi concepted them to be versed. Like NO ONE IN KPOP IS WELL VERSED IN DIFFERENT ARTS LIKE AFTERSCHOOL. THAT DRUMS, TAP DANCING AND POLE DANCING!!! BEKA IS THE NIKKI MINAJ LIKE RAPPER IN THER TEAM. She’s from Hawaii. AUSTINE! You should totally check their reunion this year! They performed Diva and Bang!

Flashback and Diva are a must. MMTG performances that took place this June with some members being like a decade out of business were pretty unique and great as well. Orange Caramel? Aka the most successful subunit in the history of subunits? If you don't know them already, prepare for a shock. Catallena (obviously), Magic Girl, Aing, Bangkok City are songs I'd recommend but it's inpossible to do any wrong with this group unless you miss the first of these (that I sometimes call The Viral One). Edit: Shanghai Romance! How could I forget about this song..

“Because Of You” is EXTRMELY popular in South Korea, selling over 4 Million digital copies around its release, and is one of the best selling GG Songs from the 2nd Generation, having achieved multiple triple crowns when it was being promoted. Because Of You was also the debut song for 2 of the most popular After School Members (Raina and Nana) Bang has been referred to as the “Pledis Family Anthem” due to the fact that almost Every Single Group to debut after After School has covered it and remixed it into their own song. Seventeen and Pristin (Seventeen’s little sisters) Both have fantastic covers on Bang during predebut. One of the Pristin Members, Xiyeon is actually in the bang MV as one of the small children dancing at the start

In the beginning of their career, they were known as the Korean Pussycat Dolls. They were a high-performance group where each comeback was very different and included a special concept. Bang saw drum lining (they learned and have an accompanying performance), Shampoo included tap dancing, and First Love had pole dancing. They were highly versatile. They also had a graduation concept where members would eventually leave and new members join. The first graduation was actually right after their debut before their first comeback. Because of You saw 2 new members, Bang added one, Shampoo added another, but was also the last comeback for Bekah (blonde rapper aka my bias). First Love saw a new member, but their leader, Kahi (other rapper), left right before this comeback. The group had one more Korean comeback and then went on indefinite hiatus, but practically disbanded since only 1 member is left in the company. A few went on to be successful in other careers, with Kahi being the most notable as a dancer (specifically dance mentor for the Produce series). Bekah went back to Hawaii and lived a normal life, and Jungah became a mother, many went into acting, etc. I loved this group but unfortunately they were screwed over by Pledis.

I'd love to share my thoughts with one of my favorite GGs ever. Orange Caramel, while indeed had seemingly been more successful than the main group, is their kind of trot, fun sub-unit since they tackle some very interesting topics as well. I remember one of their MVs had to be censored since being their mainstream media as sensitive as it is. The sub-unit had Reina, one of the lead vocals and one that had a shorter hair that you've noticed. She's the one that you said, had a almost 10-note rift/wave note. Reina shares most of the vocals with Jungah, a former leader who replaced KAHI, their leader for the longest time. Kahi was one of the main rappers but also sings so so well. She shared her rap lines the most with Bekah (Rebekah Kim - stays in Hawaii). The fortune of AS started to neglect (couldn't find any better words, since if not almost, is what really happened), is when they started losing members since their the only group that has a graduation system, thus After School. Bekah was the first one and next was Kahi, 2 of the most influential members. The company also didn't had enough funds back then and afaik, they had to invest all of their money to Seventeen (Seungkwan is a big big fan of After School). I'd recommend Flashback as one of the great songs from them. Just iconic. I f you loved the walk, flaunt, and more walk in Bang then you'd surely love the ramp model vibes in Flashback.

I always say, while Pledis as a company does have a lot of faults, especially when it comes to promoting/managing some of their groups, one thing they do have going for them is their training. They've managed to have a solid system figured out to bring out the strengths of each individual, hone their talents, and produce well rounded idols/groups.

Thanks for checking these videos out! You should consider adding Nine Muses to your next female group to do a marathon. They were highly underrated and never had any first wins, but their evolution was amazing.

I am so happy I ran into your reaction. After School has been my favorite kpop group. Now that I heard you listen to them and enjoy them, it made me nostalgic, a bit sad, but also excited. I felt like I'm hearing them for the first time, and all the thrill of it. They all slowly left the group and company, but recently, after many many years of not performing, they got together on a show and actually performed to two songs. It was bittersweet. Thank you for this video :) Much love from Croatia

Love them! They came out after the heyday of Pussycat Dolls in the US and you can see the influence in their early songs. Booty popping, chest popping, sexy grown woman shit! Random, they also have my favorite Christmas Kpop song called Love Love Love. Check it out since it's holiday season now.

hi, inkorea OC was kinda more successful because they had a concept that was more childish and sometimes a bit bizarre. and After school was more adultish so to say. And After school was oneof the first girl group that that had a graduation system. So, when a member graduated from the group a new member was introduced.

If I remember correctly, after school were based on the pussycat dolls. UEE was the visual indeed, but Jiyeon(I don't really remember her name, but the one who dated GD) was the top visual. Kahi was the face of the group and Jungah? The leader maybe? It's been so long. But I really liked them. I enjoyed OC concepts more but Flashback by AS is really good... (I also like Ah, band and because of you) As someone who grew fond of K-pop by these songs (2nd Gen) I'm thankful of you reacting to these old videos :) miss those times so much... Many good groups and songs were slept on.

Eh, you said “car-mel”, I’ll forgive you this time. Lol 😝 Been awhile since I watched a reaction of yours. Hope you’re doing well! I think I would’ve liked them back then because they actually follow the same graduation system as my favorite jpop gg Morning Musume where members graduate from the group and new members join (they even covered their song “Love Machine”) but I couldn’t get into their sexy PCD style. But Orange Caramel is a whole different concept, I would say it’s something you would see/hear more in jpop. Which is another reason why they should’ve been my favorite 2nd gen group but idk I just couldn’t fully get into them. HOWEVER, ironically member Nana was my female bias at that time for no reason other than she’s an absolute visual (still is). Leader Gahi (the rapper you liked) was a professional dancer before being in the group, doing backup dancing for BoA and other artists. She is one of the older 2nd gen gg members now in her 40s so the age gap with her and some of the members esp the new ones that joined was quite wide. Someone already mentioned, they had a reunion earlier this year and main vocal Jungah was actually pregnant and dancing to BANG! like it was comeback day 😆 Well, that was nostalgic. Thanks for reacting to them. My 2nd gen ult T-ARA had a comeback a few weeks ago you should check out if you haven’t already. And while I don’t think they can recapture their former glory, knowing that they’re the only 2nd gen gg still active makes their comeback more special.
