Jeff, If you decide to trade or sell this, I’d appreciate a heads up. I can provide an email if and when. Thanks.
I love Medford 💘 not just for the knives but also for the treasure that is businessmen like Greg. I own a business and I love his no nonsense approach to custom knives, and craftsman business in general.

Craftsmanship and Medford don’t go in the sentence
It's actually cpm D2. Way better than regular d2. Also medford heat treat his steel very well. Probably holds up better than most 20cv that has crappy heat treat. Remember people it's not about the steel as much as it's about the heat treat!!
I have a hand full of older Medford’s knives and they are all nice and still my favorite knife that I carried for years is a viper. Awesome knife and I will say D2 is a good everyday steel. Easy to sharpen and polishes out nice. An as far a Greg goes I had a minor issue and he got on the phone and told me how to fix it. Sooooo. Have a bunch of his knives and when I had a issue custom service he personally took care of it.

That's the main reason why I chose to do business with Greg Medford. He's Never Let, Me Down.
It's actually a really nice blade....
I like Greg. He is passionate and stands strong behind his opinions. Stands up for what he believes in.
I know probably alot of people already said but medford uses CPM d2. Not d2. Theyre 2 completely different steels in terms of performance

That's good to know cause I have a 350$ midgard messer with cpm d2 and it's great steel so yeah you've made me say ok cpm d2 know I just hope that g10 is probably great quality to im sure that knife is worth the 400 maybe more like 350 but what's an extra 50 to 75 dollars right if your paying for quality
You made a good point about large jimping being best used with work gloves. I always take that into consideration when I buy a knife and what I'm going to use it for. This thing is a chunk of a workhorse knife, I would love to have one.
amazing looking knife. can't wait to get one
Thanks for the review 🤟🏼
I currently own, 2 Scout M and P's. 1 Green/1Black. I also own 2 Medford 187 DP's in Titanium with S90V Blades. And I also have a Smooth Criminal. The Medford Scout's are designed for ppl who wear gloves. Yeah it's an amazing knife, (IMO). 👍
Excellent review. Your observations are spot on. I placed an order recently and waiting for my knife to be made 3 weeks , 6months or more (yikes). Thanks.
ooh.i love the look.i must say I'm all for supporting Lynn Thompson, and cold steel.but the Medford is nice.

Good Review. Took me a long time to get me a Medford. The Infraction came out, and man I love it. Dont care how much it cost, I use the hell out of it, and it is a workhorse, and a beauty. No Safe Queens! Use your knives! cheers!
I have had 2 of these. I finally settled on a scout in s35vn. It’s beautiful. These are def tanks but the cut very well
I just got the F.A.S.T gerber covert it’s pretty cool
Cool Knife 👍
Can you do a video on how to maintain a edge? Or have you did that already? Thanks for the cool videos
Yesterday when I saw this video I made comments on the cost of this D2 knife. Since then I watched a Medford video "Think you know how a custom Medford knife is actually made?" After viewing it, I would but one....it's a steal. (Pun intended!) Very impressive operation, super close tolerance and you get what you pay for. Is it me but seeing him reminds me of Nutnfancy‽
Medford Infraction is one of my go to EDCs not all Medfords are crazy huge. And Medfords in house heat treat is great. I've got the Infraction and Slim Midi. SM is a little too slim for me, but still a great blade. If getting into Medfords start with full thickness Midi Marauder, Infraction, or Colonial. All "normal" EDC length but you get to feel the Medford thickness, and Medford quality. Hell the Medford lock up sound is just awesome.
Hi Jeff, I have a very interesting question for you. I keep a few old utility knife blades near my desk as a sort-of mock hone steel. Can you tell me if this practice will help to keep the edge of my knife intact or if it’s something I should stop doing? Keep in mind that the most expensive knife that I have is a cold steel peace maker II which I love very much. Thanks for the awesome videos!!
@cutlerylover

well you can hone your edge on any metal as long as the other metal is harder...But Id say you can find rod hones from kitchen cutlery sets a lot of places super cheap like garage sales or salvation army or ebay
"Every knife has something to offer", damn straight. No hate. Outstanding. People don't get it, a lot of people still get angry in traffic too. Good on you.
I have a Medford pretorian ti ( edit) : full custom vulcan blade. I use it daily I wear it out every time I leave the house and I don’t mean opening mail I work outside and I use it every day it’s scrapped and scuffed all up and I love it I’ve had it for 3 years now still sharp and still straight as the day I got it
i've had a few pretorians and a midi marauder. i like them. not so much that i own one today but i might pick up another one at some point
Great video man. Like anything, it's not just about materials, but what a maker does with those materials. Both a Honda Accord and a Ferrari 488 are made out of Steel and Fiberglass. They'll both get you from point A to point B; They're both perfect good cars, but they're far from the same car. Medford also uses steels other than D2. But even so, due to a fantastic heat-treat, their D2 competes with many other makers' knives using "better" steels. Medford's D2 is incredibly well done as is their S35VN. I believe yours is a Praetorian Scout, which is one of their entry level Praetorians. While I'm not always a fan of Medford's politics, I try to focus on the product. The quality of Medford products is undeniable. Almost everyone who criticizes Medfords have never actually owned one. Most people who actually own one are loyal customers. I have a Praetorian T, a micro Praetorian, and an On Belay and they are absolute tanks. While no knife is for everyone, Medfords definitely EDC legend for a reason. 👍🏻
I’m not a big Medford user, i have one, it’s not my most expensive knife, but it’s certainly up there. I really like it, and its certainly impressed me more than my Sebenza did. I like my Sebenza, but it didn’t wow me like the Medford or my Rocksteads did, and continue to do. If i want a hard use knife, its my go to, the Rocksteads and ADVs are my favourite EDC’s and the Sebenza tends to sit in the drawer. Enjoyed your video though.
Hey Jeff, I think it's worth mentioning the secondary market price. A Scout can be had sometimes for under 300USD, and the custom knives typically sell for just over half retail on the secondary. There are exceptions of course, but I think a lot of viewers might approach these models more if they knew what secondary market prices are.
Hi, I own a machine shop in Houston, Texas. I'm old. At best there's 40.00 in materials in that knife. The rest I am gonna leave up to free enterprise. I love knives. Have more than most folks. Life is too short to loose their beans over a tool. I have a copy of the knife on the way from china. I was created in the back seat of a 52 Ford. Seen this wonderful country rode into the ground in 3 years. God, Guns & Guts. At all cost, keep all three. Yes I know this video is three years old. I'm old, not stupid.
I agree with you 100%. I don't always agree with all of Gregs comments but he is honest and has conviction. The knives are really cool and American made. If you can, it's great to support American made knives. Medford, Case, GEC, Bear & Son, Buck etc.....
@Cutlery Lover : I have 2 Medford Preaetorians M & P, 1Black/1Green. Plus I Have 2 187 DP models. And a Smooth Criminal. I'm very happy with Medford. I think the Quality is by far the best in most AMERICAN MADE knife Manufacturing.

Get on Medford university on line and you will see the heat treats and hands on grinding by a human and just the precision and hand fitting of his knives. He makes his own titanium hardware in house , everyone else's are a collaborations with other companies. He heat treats in house and checks hardness 3 times during the process , his accuracy is second to none . He does a lot, so to much to type .THATS WHAT YOU ARE PAYING FOR !! CHECK IT OUT.

I almost bought one but i saw d2 steel and i ended up getting the slim midi in s35vn instead but i hear there is a difference in Chinese d2 and American d2 im not sure if its the truth but im sure the heat treatment done by Medford is gonna be better . As far as greg Medford hes just a no b.s guy nothing wrong with that
I appreciate them. But I don't need a sharpened pry bar, but that's just me.
I’d be interested in someone doing a actual test on fake or clone knife steels. I doubt the steels a lot of fake/clones knives are really what is stated.
I’m sure they’re very nice knives but like damn. I work in a sporting goods store and we have a case of them cuz our buyers are boomers but don’t sell any.
Also I had the same thoughts about my randal made knife it’s cool but it’s not excalibur
I would get a Medford in the midi or a pretorion
If I had the $$$ I would so EDC that bad boy
HRC? Heat treat? Behind the edge thickness? The fact that the tip is designed to be more robust because it's not hollow ground like the rest of the edge so u get the best of both worlds? Checking how thick the pivot is because that's where most of the pressure goes when hard use comes into play? Check how big the washers are because that inhibits side to side play? Mentioning that they went with a stop pin design that is more robust than the traditional sandwich design? All the little things raise the price (just to name a few). Look at the sebenza. They use s35vn (nothing crazy). But they hit the hrc and the heat treat to perform at optimal standards for that steel. I'll bet you could hammer the tip of that medford into a 2x4 and pry it apart without causing any real damage to the knife be it the tip, the lock up or the side to side stability. Knives don't just "cost alot of money" go into some detail, dude
Sold off both custom Medfords. Never looked back.
Talon Sei also owns this knife. He loves it.

@Cutlery Lover : if you still have this knife, I'd like to trade you for a carbon fiber 0452/0562 ZT ! Let me know.

That looks like the outsourced version. The early versions were completely outsourced but the latest have blade ground in house. But he didn't produce handle or blade he just ground it!
I just got me an American knife from Emerson knives can you guess which one it is 😎 aesthetically speaking I like the Planarian but I think knives should be as thin as possible and still stand up to the abuse that you will give it.

I'm pretty sure that Medford uses CPM d2, NOT regular or Chinese d2 steel. Obviously the CPM d2 is a powdered metal making it superior to any ingot steel when used in blade steels. Nice knife, my friend- i think you will struggle to break it😂👍✌️
How Medford knives are made: kzread.info/dash/bejne/n4SWt8apgdyplKg.html
You blew my mind when you mentioned that if you had no knowledge of the Medford brand, that knife looks much more like a chunky budget knife. I'm one of those guys that exclusively buys American made knives and I have no issue shelling out the money for them but even then its hard to justify the price when the Microtech Cypher I carry daily uses better materials and is a literal mechanical tool. However, I get that buying $300 to $500 OTFs makes me look crazy too and that's just the way the knife world works so I say to each his own.
It's CPM D2 totally diffrent from Plain D2.
I don’t hate Medford, but $400+ for D2, G-10 and a Liner lock is obviously a turn off. If it had 20-CV and a Titanium Frame lock or button lock it would be different.
