In my view sir. What I learned from your expert Tec tips will carry on with me. I. E. The bit about the leaking being normal until seal sits proper. Overall a top notch video. The winding country roads and of course. The rolling piece of art. The mighty cx650turbo.
The CX650 has got to be one of nicest sounding and most reliable twins Honda have ever made

Agreed, I love the whistle it gives off too. Think this is the fave of all my classics. ☺
Came back to riding 14 years ago with a US import CX500 Custom. I too changed the cam chain, tensioner and water pump seal then I had the embedded CDI source coils fail. Managed to get an aftermarket replacement unit that does away with the source coils. Removing the engine on a non-Turbo CX is relatively easy. Still have the bike, it's not pristine but it still works and no road tax to fork out for.
I’m brand new to riding bikes I just bought a Suzuki Sv 650 but that bike is beautiful 👌

Nice to see my old babies appreciated. I think Honda were just showing off with the turbo. ☺
Looking fine. Sounding great too. Not too bad for a 40 year old bike!
Great little update, hats off for keeping another classic on the road.

I’m sure if you could look for the definition of an 80s bike there would be a picture of that precise bike lol! Great vide russ!
More eye catching than most modern bikes.

The dreaded Honda stator 😂 I’ve got a mk1 cbf1000 and they are renowned for going on these. Glad to see it’s back up and running sweet mate. 👍

I just wish it was under the conventional side cover like most bikes but on a Vtwin it wouldn't be possible.... Or stick a bloody alternator on it. ☺
Always fancied one of them in my dispatching days in the 80s, but never managed to have one instead stuck with the trusted plastic maggot.. but I got rid of them every 15,000 miles to avoid doing that job. Nice to see a real old bike certainly over this retro season we’re going through… classic and classy.

Maybe it's my rose tinted glasses but I still think it's beautiful. ☺
Wow what a lovely bike👌
What an amazing bit of gear for an 80s bike.
thanks for new upload Russ .. and congratulations on the major surgery

Wow...thanks for the heads-up...I had a a CX500 back in the day, loved the bike, sold it after an accident... was intrigued by later models, always wanted CX650...thank you for clearing the stars from my eyes...(still want the bike!)
Well done sir keeping another classic on the road sounds sweet 👍👍🙏

Great to see you keeping this classic on the road. I had two CX650Ts back in the day and made the mistake of selling my last one in 95 for a massive £5K, it was the last one registered in the UK as a K reg as it sat at Honda UK's showroom for years in Chiswick iirc. On my first one the stator went when I was in Germany on holiday near Lake Constance. I took it to a BMW dealer and they told me "Der licht machine is Kaput" meaning the alternator lol. They replaced it but did a crap job, on the way home I noticed the head gasket was leaking water at Calais, but it made it back to Nottingham and I then took the engine out and replaced the gasket and did a full service on it, man that engine was heavy, I could just lift it, wouldn't try that now, would give me a hernia. Best bike I ever owned and the fastest, my god that roll on acceleration would leave many 2023 bike in the dust.

Nice story thanks. Yes, it's still an incredible bike to look at and rode and 100bhp from a 650 twin is still impressive.
Mightily impressive is what I think. That kind of strip down work scares the bejesus out of me. The "Now where the fk did I put that ....." factor must have been quite high. So hats off to you. It was well worth it too by the looks, Beautiful machine. Well Done.

Thanks, was very scary but kept reminding myself it's just a big jigsaw puzzle.
Very rare bike especially in that condition. Nice.
Well done chap, I would have been close to giving up too 👍
Impressive spannering Russ, a lot of moving parts in that engine - bet you were pleased when it fired up after you'd put it back together!

Little resto mod can bring a lot back to 100% or even better in a few cases
The joys of '80's bike ownership. 🙂 ''Had' to have the front indicator brackets on my '85 XBR 3D printed last year. (None to be had anywhere.) Nice job!

@@RoadcraftNottingham I honestly wouldn't have had a clue where to start, but, a very kind individual had posted a '3D file' online that I was able to use, and the company I used provided some of the best customer service I have ever received. 👍
Sounds well for a bike of that age. Well done 🤓

Beautiful bike. You really have an enthusiast taste in motorcycles. Do you still have your RD400. ? I had an RD 350 back in the day and I still miss it. ☺️ Thanks for the upload.

I had the RD350F2 YPVS. Sold that last year. Only 2 stroke I have now apart from the 50. Mopeds is the RD250LC..
I think a lot of people change these components unnecessarily. My standard CX500 has 90k miles on the original stator. Cam chains yes, 40k miles probably best to change at. Regardless, lovely machine you have there! Would love a turbo one day!

Generally I'll replace things when they're ready but in this case, for the cost of the parts it's just so much easier and now, hopefully I'll never do that many miles to need it again. ☺
@Blurredman
Жыл бұрын
@@RoadcraftNottingham I must admit, I am a miser. But obviously in your case you had reason to - I agree with your conclusion based on the facts you found. But those who replace a component when it still realistically has many years/miles in it seems a waste. Also: never do that many miles? That sounds like a sad thing to profess when on such a nice bike! :P

@@Blurredman I use it whenever I get the chance and a typical ride is about 70 miles
I see you have the taller screen on it. I knew a rider who bought one of the few early ones in the UK, It was so quick it scared him and I don't know how long he kept it. By that time I was no longer riding motor bikes.

Yes, the taller screen doesn't look as good but makes a difference
Typical Honda alternator, my VFR800 was plagued by the same problems over the 40k miles I had it, until the alternator cover was modified to provide better lubrication.
@RoadcraftNottingham

Yep. I think the stator is just under the side cover though fortunately so no engine out if I'm right?
My 1981 CX500B is still on the original stator at around 60k....the reason the stator burns out is down to a faulty regulator not hot oil.
@RoadcraftNottingham

Interesting, I'd read my info on the turbo owner's club. Have had reg recs pack up many times on different bikes in the past and none ever damaged the stator only the battery... Will have to keep my eyes open. Thanks.
Im watching hoping to buy a cheap gl500 and build a cx650 turbo out of it.
was the Suzuki manifold sensor a simple drop in replacement or was there some modding to get it to fit.
I would have added an oil intercooler onto it.
Hi by any chance would you know where I could get a muffler left side for a 500 turbo?

No, sorry. If a mint one came up I'd have one
I never understood these bikes when they came out as they were as expensive to buy as a four cylinder 1000cc. I never fully appreciated the CX range for the great bikes that they were.
@RoadcraftNottingham

They were about the fastest bike out there at the time.. 100BHP from a 650 twin, unheard of. ☺
