One thing I noticed about flashlights and waterproof/weatherproof containers is that metals seems to be a bad choice for long term outdoors, even in your vehicle's glove box, because metal seems to conduct and absorb moisture and temperature moreso than plastic. I've had flashlights and containers have condensation and rust accumulate when they were sealed tight, killing batteries, or ruining contents. Same for the cold. The metal gets colder than plastic, shortening battery life. ...And I would recommend the Boker 'Strike'. Still sturdy, and solid, much more reliable and useful, yet smaller, possibly lighter too. Costs a little more. Taiwanese -not Chinese. Quality isn't cheap.
While the straw may have been a fail, I do like that during a pandemic all the EDC people out there went “wait! How many bits of extra kit can I roll into my EDC because of this?” 😂
I couldn’t agree more about Olight/proprietary batteries or charging systems. Over the past several years I have amassed a huge collection of Olights that I never even opened and have slowly been selling them off. The ones I use (occasionally) are fantastic but it’s a pain to need a separate cord when most devices now (including iPhone FINALLY) use usb C. I have also found that simple rovyvon key chain lights are super bright at 600 lumens, are now usb C and more than I ever really need. Carrying an olight Warrior mini is the largest I’m willing to pocket carry for something I almost never need.
I can’t say I really got any trash items this yr except one item. A Bushnell Flash light. Picked it up because it was on sale from $40 to $15. I honestly didn’t pay attention the packaging until I got home. Single mode. Dim as hell. The Olight i1R EOS key chain light performs 100% better.
the boker magnum is (intentionally) an incomplete knife by design(for legal reasons). i used to pack orders for a website that sells all necessary parts to build custom knives and holsters. all customers who bought a boker also knew to buy the proper drill bit and spring.
I dont have any trash equipment anymore. I went through everything you showed here except the wallet. The walket I use is a Browning wallet. I love it. When I started doing survival here in south central Louisiana I broke alot of equipment because of where I am.....you sleeping with the alligators and the snakes and at the time I didnt have a maintenence program in place to clean my eqipment. After 32 years I have 11 survival kits at varios locations. One stays with me to practice with in the woods every week and now everything is cleaned and resharpened when needed. Must be the military coming back out :) My wife will go before I let my survival kit go. Leaving in the morning for Baton Rouge to purchase some xtra equipment. Like a kid in a toy shop. Great video. Enjoyed. Very informative. Rangers clear the way Charles
05 lead is for technical drawing or fine lines for carpentry. switch to .09 and you can write well, and I recommend Pentel Twisterase 3. I install cabinets and can go through a stick of lead a day. They last forever, and if you lose it or break it it's not the end of the world
Most .5mm and .7mm lead for mechanical pencils are fragile, they can’t take very much pressure at all. Having spend many years on a drawing board doing tool & die design I broke a lot of this size lead. I found that I couldn’t have hardly any lead sticking out from the chuck holding it. Sometimes the edges of the chuck an be a bit sharp or uneven be holding the lead with the very edge causing a score mark on the lead. With the cost of the Tactile Turn I’d think there wouldn’t be any of these issues, but you’d never know.

Well you basically said it for me. Although I’m coming from a office/financial perspective using mechanical pencils. I’d say try different lead as this is a huge shame with such a beautiful Tactile Turn work of art!!! Just my 2 cents 🤷♀️
I used to carry a Boker Magnum years ago as my main edc knife. It was never anything special but it was reliable for general purposes. Sad to see the quality has slipped that much.
Q; just a thought, why not have a 2022 channel “trash” giveaway. I’m sure the the viewers would appreciate the item and could add any comments they may have.
I don't prefer the Olight with the magnet, it gets in the way of pulling other tools unintentionally, either on a surface or out of pocket. That Gerber lockdown drive tool, the thumb studs get in the way of the tools usuage, I wouldn't consider it. I have a Griffin pry tool that bent on me with repeated use. Thanks for your true opinion of these products.
Great video. A bit surprised on the spyderco though. I never saw a use for those Gerber tools you trashed so they never made it on my list, in my edc pouch or pack. Regarding the carabiner. I would stay away from Amazon for those. Actual climbing stores are your best bet for them. Unless you have a PX or Navy/ Marine Exchange near by.

About the only tool I’ve liked by geber was the armbar drive slim, that and geber evo Jr which was probably my first daily carry knife so it’s more because of nostalgia.
Appreciate this level of detail and honesty, brother
Great job fam I got a straw too I’m loving mine Hate paper straws with a passion
I only buy light. Specifically because of the charger. It’s a lithium battery, what’s wrong with buying another one? They cost the same as any other. If you don’t like their color profile, that’s one thing. But they are by far the best flashlight company period.
I had a very nice tactical pen that my friend left in a rental car, he relaced it with the ANKAKA tactical pen. The only feature on this pen that works good is the bottle opener. The flashlight can get bumped while on a gear bag turn on and burn your bag, don't buy this either.
The tactile turn mech pencil is amazing. For sure get better lead, the lead breaking has nothing to do with the mechanism or the pencil....
Thanks for the heads-up!! Great video ++
Im a bit late to the party, but i really appreciate the "what not to buy" angle even more than the "what you should buy" angle. Thanks for this
appreciate the gear reviews like this.
The Magnum line of knives by Boker is their cheapest, budget line... basically a "gas station" knife. Don't confuse this with their other more premium lines of knives.

I dare say even gas station knives are better than magnum knives. They're overpriced junk with horrid quality control.
I can understand the gripe about the mechanism in the pen, if that's not working properly, but the one about the way it writes is a non-issue,. IMO, unless a pen uses proprietary refills. Otherwise, you just need to find one you like that fits in the pen. It's not like it's a fountain pen where the nib and filling mechanism are part of the pen.
Can you recommend any garter belt holsters? My husband wants something he can wear with heels and a little black dress he borrows from me sometimes.
I’d try different lead in the Tactile Turn mechanical pencil. It would be too much of a shame for such a beautiful work of art not to give it every possible chance 🤷♀️ #Battalion

As a 0.5 lead connoisseur I would say use some Pentel lead and when you dispense it only let it BARELY poke out. 0.5 lead is fragile and you need to keep it very short or it will break no matter the quality.
“I would recommend this if you’re left or right handed” 😂
Man I have this cool little Sog multi tool as a gift from a brother but when you use the driver bits they just spin big bummer, now I have to find a functional replacement that fits in my Wps Ankle ifak. Any suggestions on a quality multi tool w/driver bits? Oh the Sog rusts quite a bit as well even though it have a coating, brand used to be nicer a couple decades ago.
Really enjoying your vids talking about what NOT to get.
I love your honest reviews!
I had that same exact Everyman pen, after a few days of use, the ink was leaking and the top fell apart , so I returned it!
My favorite Olight is the MX-1 Striker. It uses CR123 batteries
Always great to see what not to buy from big name companies. Great video !
Thanks for info. We buy survival gear to last. This stuff no good. please do more videos keep us posted. . .
if you dont mind a bigger flashlight, i really like my nitecore mh11, usb c rechargeable, 18650 for really long run time and powerful output, clip that doubles as a hat brim clip in a pinch, and just kinda does everything (except strobe) for $50
Try the 0.7 mm lead, on their website they sell the inner mechanism for 0.5 and 0.7 lead under spare parts
Just discovered your channel, great content.. Just subbed! I use a cheap civivi elementum for the airplane. At least it's a flipper, cheap D2 model, don't care if it gets taken
Im with you on the proprietary chargers for flashlights, my only difference of opinion is micro-USB. I guess Im just a pack rat and have tons of older USB cords, I dont mind micro-USB vs USB-C.
the olight buton has a wall charger AND a type C charging case lol
One use of the edc straw is to be able to add air to a tender pile from a distance. Perhaps it would be useful in that regard?

I use that straw and find that it works well. Once the bladder inside the straw had a kink in it but I twisted the sections around and have it straightened out. I just find that I have very few scenarios where I need a staw

I have telescoping tubes for that. They're pretty much made the same way as old-school car antennas. I haven't tried to drink through one, though. I should try it.
Delica is a great knife for a new pocket knife user
I’ll take the Gerber lockdown drive off your hands 🙌
Proprietary chargers really get on my nerves. There’s so many great flashlights that could be so much better if they used USB C. The Olight WM2 is great but I hate having to carry another charger. The i5r proves Olight can make USB C rechargeable batteries. It’s not only Olight that who are ‘guilty’ of this shit.
You lost keys using the rhino thing but you still gave it a pass? Wow!

Thanks much! Icon ➡️ Mix Pre3 II (with there awesome noise assist) ➡️ Gain bump and limiter in post.
I had high expectations for my Everyman pen. It started out as the most expensive but worst performing pen I had. Fortunately though, after an ink cartridge refill change it now performs flawlessly.

@@alocasio5896 I got the Grafton metal ink refills from Everyman.
I agree about Olight and their proprietary batteries. That's a damn shame too, because their quality and customer service are both outstanding. Another thing for the battalion to skip is EBL-branded NiMH batteries; they're really overrated; stick to Eneloop.
TRASH GEAR!!! wathing intently lol
Love it, it seemed like a good idea “it briefed well” the execution sucked…Great seeing the opposing side of EDC, shit that didn’t work well. Well done Sir!
NOT including the price of the flashlights... $750.00 worth of fail. If you took that $1000.00 per year and applied it to the mortgage principal, you would save $17,289.00 in interest over a 25 year mortgage.

Yeah I don't need investment advice. My money is long
Fisher Space pen is the best edc pen
The delica is $70 which is obscene for VG10 in 2022, when I can get a ganzo clone for $15 in 440C..yea no..
We are straight 🤓 nerds dude.
Always thought the VSSL was a gimmick.
Benchmade mini freek. Spring broke after 11 days of ownership 🗑.
that vssl kit was so gimmicky from the start, good survival gear typically isnt small like that except for your "possibilities kit" with the odds and ends. if you need a "possibilities kit" the bestglide ase tins are the best ive seen and affordable
you should have known the straw was gonna fail. you can't have a vacuum if you have 3 points of separation. I mean you can but then the gaskets would have to be so tight that it's a bitch to pull apart, which would end up being the first thing users complain about.

Hi a belt
When are you going to review/buy a decent flashlight? Olight is trash. Try some Merican made products.
Not a fan of the blurry video 😖 it made my eyes itch 🥴

Gerber make some truly rubbish gear.
Man you bought a 39.99 boker and should of known better lol.
Did anyone really think that VSSL gimmick thing was going to work 🤣 Just buy a regular pen and pencil. It must be nice you can afford to loose a $80 knife. AA or AAA flashlights are the only way. Who the F√€£ carries a edc straw. The gearqueer runs strong on KZread
