My #1 tip for autoimmune fatigue (from rheumatoid arthritis)

I’ve partnered with Smart Sharps Bin to provide some helpful educational content this month! #sponsored
I wouldn’t apologize for needing food or water, so I don’t apologize for needing sleep and rest! During the busy holiday season I channel my inner “sleep diva” to help me plan ahead and prioritize sleep to manage autoimmune fatigue from rheumatoid arthritis.
What about you, what are your best tips for managing autoimmune fatigue during the holidays?

I greatly appreciate this. I’m in NY and we are having awful weather which seems to be a trigger for me. I feel guilty for spending the day in bed but I feel awful. It’s hard to know when I should push myself and when I should allow myself to rest

I relate to that struggle - sometimes you just have to take your best guess! Rest is often a good idea but sometimes it also ends up working out to push through the fatigue

Yep. In the past I would push past fatigue when i felt that people expected me to “suck it up and drive on” I no longer have those people in my life. I eat what is right for me, i sleep, nap, doze in my chair when my body tells me. I do one, maybe two things a day such as groceries & clearing out the fridge, zero turn the yard, sweep and mop, laundry and dishes. Some days, coffee followed by a nap. Its ok, i have accepted it.

Agree with you about this so much. Does anyone else get weepy when overstretched? Or is that just me? It’s okay if so, just curious.

Absolutely, my emotions are so much more difficult to cope with when I'm tired!

I was really struggling about what to eat for putting symptoms into remission and whether to go plant based or Autoimmune paleo and I’m going to go autoimmune paleo to see how it goes!! If anyone else has done this eating plan or has done both and found that vegan is better, let us all know! What do you recommend?❤

I recommend working with a Registered Dietitian (someone with a full degree, not a "nutritionist" or "health coach") to develop a plan that works for you. There is no one size fits all for autoimmune conditions unfortunately! The best evidence *overall* for the population of people with rheumatoid arthritis is for a plant focused, mediterranean style diet but again, it might not be the best for you specifically. There is no high quality evidence for the autoimmune protocol but it could work for you. The medications are by FAR the most likely thing to put your disease into remission but nutrition can help as an adjunct.

Its awful. I feel so guilty being tired. The tiredness can be 24 hours continuous. Sometimes I just have to nap during the day and it makes me feel lazy and useless.

Our kids are 15, almost 16, 14, and 9 and I still just can't shake the mom guilt. I go until I can't stand anymore and pass out sitting up on the couch 😭

@@ArthritisLife Thank you so much, I really needed to hear that from you. I will be doing better when my body says it needs rest. I finally have an appointment with a rheumatologist on July 26th. I feel super blessed to be able to see her because I have heard nothing but really great things about her.

In the beginning I was a sleep diva, but then my kids father started calling me lazy. He even got my two kids in on it. I haven’t truly taken care of myself in about a decade. I’m really trying to change, but it’s really hard.

My ex was like that and my mother still is like that. But self care is a necessity. Recharging means you DO care about your kids!
