Thats cause the IW engine was optimized specifically for that game. I think with the new direction with COD HQ they had to build new tools and streamline the engine for future titles so it was easier to use. It's why the textures and lighting are lot more simplified in the newer games. Plus the Cross gen aspect holding them back.

Mw2019 is for sure the most photorealistic of the 3 and the guns have a lot more visual recoil. Wether that improves or worsens the gameplay is up to you lol

I think MW19 was the only game that used Photogrammetry/PBR which also helped the visuals. Something tells me they had to simplify the textures to save on time and streamline the map tools so they can make maps faster.

No, developers ruined everything. With the new engine (adopted from MW2 to this day) they decided to downgrade everything in order to recycle assets more easily from game to game. Even Warzone Mobile uses this engine and this is the reason they need to keep everything light and ugly.

I think another reason why the newer games look less good is because they don't use photogrammetry/photo based rendering besides on specific character models and campaign assets. It's why the environments look flatter.

@@zedus4042 it's more speculative, but you clearly tell the textures are not as interesting or detailed like MW19s. There's a clear lack of PBR because lighting reacts to character models very shallow like, where it's just a white sheen that obscures the material of clothes. There's even sheen on clothes in darker areas. Back then, the lighting would show the threating more convincingly and also the softness of certain fabric. Rock and dirt textures look very simplistic. Regardless of the lighting being better, the textures are mostly homogenous colors based on the material it's supposed to be. Even the guns have less details and react to lighting very oddly. Check Digital Foundry's video on the first Halo Infinite reveal gameplay. They go over lighting and physics based rendering and how effective it is if used correctly. There are somethings MW22/23 are doing with their visuals that feel similar to Halo Infinites early build. It just overall looks less crisp than the first installment. Nkt that it looks bad at all, in fact, it's still good looking games, but the regression is there

MW2019 looks amazing, MWII looks good, MWIII looks ridiculous.

I think the reason the newer MW games look "worse" is because they rewrote the engine for CoD HQ to streamline the content and assets between games. Because of that, a lot of the textures are more simplified compared to MW19 whete everything felt specifically built for that game. It's probably for the developers to gave an easier time using it because Treyarch and SHG had a lot of issues working with it which is why Cold War used the BO3 engine and SHG barely had content. And as for the lighting, I think the lighitng was always kind of outdated or less versatile even in MW19, but they optimized it for that game's aesthetic. But that came with it's own issues like way too dark shadows and over use of ambient occlusion which made visibility bad. They barely had time to adjust it and decided to use less direct sunlight or soft lighting so the shadows were gone or softer. TLDR The IW engine was optimized for MW19, but didn't transition well for the next two games. The only major upgrade I've seen is vegetation and water.

Yes the new engine “IW9” was made to be universally used by each and every game, now even Warzone Mobile uses it. This way they can recycle content more easily, but what we got is a way inferior product and we also needed to upgrade our PCs to get a decent performance. They went full cheap mode and say fuck it, we dont care about the game looking like shit, we only need to recycle content and make new money every year.

The games somehow look worse every year edit: it's really nice that the view model is actually effected by FOV again, however

It isn't lol, that viewmodel fov in MWIII is just a bug which I'm pretty sure happens only on PS5, though you can chose between 3 different viewmodel fov presets but none is that ridiculously wide, the viewmodel fov of MWIII with that bug is like 140 lol...

well probably not the best one lol but it was definitely a very good game and it did revolutionize cod in a lot of ways especially when it comes to gunplay and sound design.

Why couldnt they just copy and paste the arms at least from MW2019 to MW2 and 3 lol. The arms and guns in MW2019 just looked perfect to me, I cant get past those in MW2 and MW3 enough to even consider the rest of the graphics in the game.

Flat? MW2019 looks least flat out of the MW trilogy due to its lighting and color pallet having a lot of contrast and exposure but I agree on it having too little 3D models on the ground, especially when it comes to grass and dirt, there isn't a lot if at all of tessellation to give 3D effect to dirt and when it comes to grass there is too little 2D grass models to cover the flat grass textures.

@@keef4049 yeah probably true, Cold War and even BO3 and 4 had a lot more dense and filled grass and ground tessellation, though MW2019 has very realistic color pallet and lighting which makes it look very natural which I personally like the most. The next CoD is going to be primarily made by Treyarch and it's also going to be CoD with longest development time besides 2019 which could be pretty good.

@@kevinsteelflex7371 I meant the other way around Cold War has higher quality models and textures than MW engine but the PBR and the lighting is atrocious The MW engine has slightly uglier, textures and less complex geometry on the ground, but has way better PBR and lightning than Cold War

MW2019 is the best in terms of universe, aesthetics, movement, customization and gunplay. MWIII is the best in terms of gameplay (mini map, ninja perk etc.)

Modern warfare trilogy suck. Both the reboot and original. Mwll is the best one. mw19 is the worst one. I can’t say anything about mwlll because I haven’t played the beta or the full game. Once it goes on sale then I’ll give you my full opinion on it
