This was my Grandfather's last car. He was a HUGE British car guy. You could not GIVE him a BMW. Ironically he was an American of GERMAN descent. (But still, quite the Anglophile.) I agree this IS a beautiful car. Yeah sure, Benzes and Bimmers are "nice", But SOMEHOW did not exude the almost ethereal level of class like a "Jag" or (then) A Rolls. (modern Rollers don't do it for me..).

@MachtNixPasstSo it is an American video with mostly American audience, so American terminology is used. I am a relative Anglophile, and I know the British call it a boot. I gear my comments/conversations for their respective audiences.

I think it's humorous that an American reviewer thinks a luxury sedan on a 113" wheelbase is "big"🤔. It IS today, Sure. But this was taped in 1981. In 1981 I had a Cadillac that rode a 133" wheelbase! The Cadillac Fleetwood retained that dimension until 1976, only FIVE years prior to this review! 😳

How it gets to 85 mph in 19secs?, unless the 0-30 is slow..

80s cars were slow AF. Family sedans did 0-60 in 13 seconds, which was considered acceptable.

@@jaymum23 Still not getting it, the trap speed doesn't match the 1/4 time, the Jag should have been going around 75 mph or so with that time, unless the gearing is odd and only setup for high speed cruising...

That is very high mph for a 19 second car in the quarter mile, most cars can do the same mph in 17 seconds.

I noticed that too,The 3 speed automatic and the Super tall gearing would make it very slow from a standing start until the car got moving.

Malaise-era gearing doesn't help. It was able to do 55 in 1st gear and 91 in 2nd. In a modern car, those would be 2nd and 4th gears, respectively. The 5-speed that came in Euro models has much better gearing, with 1st capable of 42 and 2nd of 67. That allowed far better off-the-line grunt and more time in the meat of the powerband. Something like a 3.55 rear end (and a 4 or 6-speed auto) would make a world of difference in acceleration.

EVERYONE here (In the US...) pronounces it wrong...Well Except my grandfather. An American Anglophile who had had several Jaguars AND MGs over the years! Bu, TBF, this reviewer also pronounces an American brand wrong: He says the name "Oldsmobile" as "Ohzmobile"! 😂
