    I miss this type of basketball. Great defense, passing, rebounding, offensively fundamental. So many games in the playoffs now are being won by blowouts. Games being decided in the last two minutes are becoming more rare every year. It makes for a weakened product. I was blessed to see Jordan in his prime, among so many other greats. The competitiveness of the 80’s-2010’s was amazing.

    How? KG better shooter, more range, better handles, better face-up off the dribble game and better passer... Duncan was just stronger and wider which allowed him to play with his back to the basket and absord contact better around the paint, but i don't know how that made his game more 'polished'...

  • @ArcadianGenesis

  • @zennihilator3724

    @zennihilator3724

    10 ай бұрын

    @@ArcadianGenesis Perhaps, but to me the key factor was that Duncan simply had more mass, which is an essential component in being able to establish beneficial position down low and finish through bumps and contact... Garnett was simply too skinny to pound down low which was the meta game in the late 90s and early 2000s when KG was at his peak... He was probably 25 pounds lighter than Duncan and generally built like a SF... Hence why a lot of KG's arsenal of post moves featured various set-ups that ended in a tournaround jump shot... His ability to use footwork and spin over either shoulder and shoot effecitvely over the defense was better than Duncan... But he didn't get nearly as many easy opportunites to score down low like Duncan could with his mass, which is why ultimately Duncan was able to be more efficient. It was not necessairly because he was more 'skilled', it's just he was better built for the inside game and developed the post moves and hooks shots to complement it, which Garnett couldn't because he couldn't get in deep enough positions to use hook shots etc. I think if Garnett was in his prime in like the mid 2010's, when the game moved away from a slow-paced post-centric offense with 2 Big man on the court, to a game with more space, more pace we'd seen an even better version of him... Which is scary to think, because this dude won the MVP in 2004 playing a brand of basketball on offense that left a lot on the table for a guy with his skillset.

    IIRC, the Timberwolves and the Spurs tied their regular season faceoff (2-2). This fourth and final meeting ends San Antonio's mini-winning streak and one of few taints of that strong run into catching Dallas with the league's best record. The Wolves had a brief lead over the Lakers in the first round (2-1). That would be "alarming" if not David Stern announced few days before the start of postseason first round has also become a best-of-seven affair. That series concluded as KG's seventh consecutive first round exit. San Antonio dealt with Phoenix, a Spur headcase (Suns winning regular season match 3-1), with a hard-earned 4-2 series win (first round), then dethroned the Lakers all the way to franchise's 2nd "Larry".

    KG was the first #1 option big, I literally saw play and guard all 5 positions and literally did everything for his team. There's a reason why he was known as the "Big Ticket" in his Minnesota days.

If they zone giannis he will have a hard time to score to the basket. today you cant do zone defense perfectly because of defensive 3 sec. violation.

    As a long time Wolves fan, I always wonder if Marbury had never wanted out or if we had drafted Ray Allen instead. KG never had that bonafide 2nd star. It also doesn't help that David Stern hated the Wolves and stripped 5 FRP's for the Joe Smith scandal.
