Something everyone agrees on: Sunmi is an icon

I love the idea that Sunmi is a siren that's singing. We hear her humming throughout the song and the way she's also singing in the choruses like how she's singing the lalalas is so trancing. I also love that there are sirens that play throughout the song and the mv. It gives the mv a nice touch. I also love that in the mv, we see the Sunmi who is clothed in red and the Sunmi who is clothed in blue, The same colors of the sirens, that's a really nice touch. I've always loved how retro not only the songs are but even the music videos. The concept and the way it's portrayed in here is so retro. The different sirens in her room and the one room where it's underwater, even the beginning of the mv where Sunmi is in a bathtub, and the multiple Sunmis is such a fun oldschool way of doing an mv

Ok does anyone else see the Gashina references? She first comes out of her bathtub, and if you remember she went into her bathtub to go to this flowery place. The hallway she walks down is the same one she walked down in Gashina, after she came back out. Gashina is a metaphor with a rose’s thorns. She is now playing with the rose, and it is now caged. Correct me if I’m wrong but this is what I saw. Edit: I wanted to add something about how the lyrics and tone of the song resemble Heroine, a song about how she doesn’t need him, she’s her own hero. “Get away, get out of my face boy”(thanks Baby peach!) Edit 2: I feel like the sneeze means something but idk what. Edit 3: I’m noticing something else. In Gashina she sung about how he would regret this, and had lingering, toxic feelings. In Heroine she felt indifferent in a way to him. Now he’s come back and she’s basically telling him “I told you so,” and telling him to go away.

MY THEORY: I think the title is both a play on the word siren meaning alarm but also siren as in the mythical mermaid creature that can lure men at sea to death by distracting them with their beauty and singing voices to crash their ships. At the beginning of the MV it looks like Sunmi is getting ready for a date, when she sneezes she checks to make sure her makeup is still perfect as she wants to look good to impress her date. This action sets of the red alarm which awakens the Sunmi in red from the bathtub. I think the red Sunmi represents her in the past having experienced a bad relationship/break up and so she tries to chase down the Sunmi in blue to warn her to not be so naive and to be colder in relationships so that she will not be hurt again. The Sunmi in blue is horrified with this colder version of herself and runs down the hall in order to escape however as she opens the doors she sees other versions of herself staring blankly back at her. These versions could represent how Sunmi has had multiple negative relationship experiences in the past however she doesn't want to face these memories which is why she shuts the doors and runs away. When she gets to the kitchen Sunmi stares longingly at some roses in a cage. Roses symbolize love which represents how Sunmi wants to open herself up to love again however something is in her way. As Sunmi reaches out to touch one of the petals the alarm goes off and the red Sunmi from earlier appears again and the Sunmi in blue considers what she has to say this time. We then see the two personalities fight for dominance inside the giant cage as the blue Sunmi embraces and accepts her colder and more dangerous side she says: "I ain't cry no more" and then dances outside the cage which shows she feels more freedom now. When she walks into the room at the end she is no longer startled by the red alarm light, she is the one who turns it on which shows that she is now in control. She accepts her past but is now ready to accept new relationships but she will learn from the past and be more cautious. This is just my interpretation it could be something completely different ^ ^;;

To me the meaning of the music video is very simple. Self empowerment. If this fits the Gashina-Heroine narrative. It's about embracing your inner siren after the heartbreak to move on. Also another hint where she wore the headband "priority" shows that it's time to put herself first. Her being a demure person in general, she seems to be disgusted her own Siren, Queen, Princess (s) and Mermaid(s)? But they are always there to let her know she's more powerful than she think she is. The roses/her cage is also a symbolism of her needing to breakout. She doesn't need to be afraid because she has herself. It's about owning your inner Goddesses!

This song is actually has a deep massage. "The beautiful me in your fantasy doesn't exist" refers to sunmi's struggle about her body shame from people (cmiiw). It's hits different when you learned about the lyrics.

yeah, it does have a deep meaning. Like the name of the song "siren".She constantly references being beautiful yet dangerous and that she is also pretty but will hurt him.And her first line of the chorus "getaway out of my face", really shows the meaning of the album(warning).

sunmi is so under appreciated. yes i know she’s really popular in korea and among kpop stans but she deserves so much more exposure, like ariana grande level of fame. she needs to be promoted in US for sure, i know everybody will be obsessed with her once they get introduced to her art.

Yes ! This definitely ties in with wanting to be loved but fear of abandonment and splitting self sabotages relationships as you get intimate . For some people with BPD they will cling and for others they will get involved but leave before being left .

Idols like Sunmi are really rare in the kpop industry, and that's a sad thing actually. Kpop's strong in terms of delivering killer multi-range concepts but some companies don't encourage individuality of the artist. Sunmi has always been a goof ball even since in JYP. The current company let her to do her own concept and that's get delivered very well since this is the proof along with Gashina and Heroine. She's not afraid to be herself and as a result, she's more likeable not only because of talent but as an individual idol.
