The saddest part of this MV for me is the last 10 seconds. While we watched him let go…we didn’t actually see her let go too. So while he’s gone, the possibility of her still being hung up on him remains. Sad tbh.

This is about someone with avoidant attachment style that abruptly left the relationship. It's heartbreaking but IU is trying to remember him in the best light possible. It is an issue of attachment style - psychological issue. The scene of them both cutting cords for each other is literally spot on. That's what I just had to do with someone. Crazy she went through this at that age.

watching this now while also watching QOT this song and mv suits the drama so well… the mv looks like lovers’ memories slowly fading away just like Haein slowly forgeting hyunwoo

IU lyrics are always best 💛

IU is really an artist she can make people think so deep whether they are a common person or an artist too regardless if who you are she can make you realize things through her song and relate it to your own life. She basically just wrote about what she is going through with love, family, career and her feelings but it can touch your heart how honest those words are. Like when she wrote Graduation Day, Voicemail, Bad Day, 23, Pallet, 25 and the rest of her song it reflect who she is and what she felt in those years and situation she went through. I've been a fan for 7 years but she never fail to amaze me every-time i thought i already know everything about her. I'm looking forward on what she will do again. I don't like her to be pressured by the expectation of others for me as long as she stay true to herself and love what she does i will continue to support her no matter what will happen. IU will always be precious in my heart. She made me realize that music doesn't have boundaries.

This is just my interpretation of the mv (everyone can have different opinion this is just how i see the mv). So the numbers in the top left is the days of their story. The first scene and the scene when they watched their story is them reminiscing their past relationship. When they first met its day 1 so its CH01. The numbers kept going upwards because its the days of their relationship. It also rewinds and shows what soo hyun says. It means that that is what soo hyun was feeling/thinking. They dated and went through all of that together. The part where they cut the strings (like a puppet) is them trying to forget each other and kept growing apart. Their relationship ended and all they have is memories. But the memories are painful and are tied to themselves thats why they're cutting the strings (to be free from pain). At the end soo hyun cut the last string before iu means that he is freeing himself from their painful memories. It ends with iu who also wants to free herself from their painful memories. This is just my opinion tho no bashing 😂😂

I just want to give IU a proper credits for the song and the music video. She just executes everything perfectly. I would say that during a break up, no song can ever describe how you truly feels but IU made it in this video. From the warm beginning, the conversation, the flashback of the break up, the words that the guy said, to the very end. Break up is like this. You basically cut off each others string in order to be happy, to just let go once you know it is not meant to be, again - this is not easy. The metaphor of the strings describes the attachment of being in a relationship. We cut off the strings, but - we have to cut off our own string in order to completely let go and move on. IU describes it painfully beautiful.

악ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ지은언니 표정도 압권이고 이걸 김수현이랑 찍다니 진짜 더 미치고 여운 어쩜좋아.... 마지막에 가위로 끈들을 하나씩 하나씩 자르며 떨어지고ㅠㅠㅜㅜ또 자르다 하나가 남았는데 못자르고 남겨두다.. 결국 자르나 싶더니 거기서 끝 언뜻보면 끝내 잘러버린듯하기도하지만 결국 잘랐는지 못잘랐는지 열린 결말 보는 사람이 해석할 수 있게 연출한 거 같기도한데 그러나 열어버린 가위날 사이에 끈을 끼우고선 그걸 결국엔 닫지못했을 것 같다..ㅠㅠㅠㅠ뮤비도 보면 더 짙게 남는 여운에 눈이 감기질않을듯하다

IU will never attend Mama for the rest of her life because she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from it back in 2014, instead of the Grand Prize which had been promised. Since all of her career had been inventoried and accounted for when she was 21, Mama will never give an award to her for the rest of her life, and she will never attend Mama.

번역 좋다는 댓글이 꽤 보여서 영어 자막 틀어봤는데 “어떤 마음을 준 건지 너는 모를 거야” 부분이 상대방이 나에게 어떤 슬픔을 느끼게 한 건지 쪽으로 번역되었네요. 그동안 “내가 너에게 어떤 마음(사랑)을 줘왔던 건지 넌 모를 거야” 쪽으로 들어왔었는데 이것도 중의적으로 들을 수 있는 가사였던 거겠죠… 새롭게 아름답다…

from my experience i don't think it shows affection but yes it hurts even more,way more. he said exactly this to me when I decided to break up with him. I was angry that he doubted my choice to be with him coz he was supposed to be the "better one". I chose him. then I knew I was completely wrong right at the moment he said this to me. It hurt so much when it came from a person you loved. I realised he didn't love me enough to say anything better than that, to save our relationship. It hurt but also I knew I made the right choice, I really deserve better.

In the end the handsome alien went back to his own planet XD

I have had this song in my heart for forever. So, here it is. The moment where this song has truly resonated with me. This song perfectly depicts a breakup that ended on good terms. You cannot hate them, yet you want to. Your heart will forever reside them as they have already let you go. You cannot let them go at all, but you know you have to. This is true heartbreak. I will forever treasure this song in my heart.

IU was the first K-pop Idol that I listened to and became a fan of. Her overflowing talents and Goddess-like visuals, plus her masterpieces really make her my ultimate bias.
