    When you are a passenger you really can't tell when it transitions it is pretty gradual you start by hovering, then you move forward like a helicopter then the next thing you know you are flying like a plane.

    Had to COD onto a Carrier a couple of months ago on an Osprey. On the attempt to land, who knows what happened, but the thing almost went upside down, you could see the horizon turn sideways. Even the flight crew looked spooked. Spoke to some people after, supposedly that's normal. Impressive machines, but the flight onboard is unsettling.

    I always thought it would have to pick up a lot of forward speed in helicopter mode to allow to wings to lift it before it tilted the rotors forward, but it doesn’t take very long, it basically just tilts them forward and floors it and it just moves. The rotors are so big and powerful they can grab air and move at will

  • @Rene-uz3eb
    @Rene-uz3eb4 ай бұрын

    I'm not sure why they can't do that with a regular chopper but fixed wings rotated at 90 degrees. Just need some special seats so you can fly horizontal and vertical, much less chance for mechanical failure. In any case this seems like a dangerous boondoggle of a design. Moving parts at the highest level of stress. The sikorsky x2 is as fast as the osprey.

    @@autisticandashamed2486 not necessarily, as long as a plane is going fast enough it can glide to an emergency landing with the momentum it has since the wing shape is what creates lift when it is moving fast. Helicopters and tiltrotors require the rotors to create lift or else they will fall out of the sky, and if even just the tailrotor fails in a helicopter you are probably screwed.
