MUTINY PART 4 with Vijay Prashad

“For the first time in years, the [Global] South is saying: our agenda should define the world’s agenda.”
In May 2023, for the first time in centuries, countries in the Global South had a greater share in the world economy than that of the Global North. Vijay Prashad calls this changing power balance, where the United States can no longer impose its will on countries, a “new mood.” Washington calls it a “mutiny.”
In this episode, Peter Mertens travels to the conference of the International People’s Assembly in Johannesburg and talks with historian and Director of the Tricontinental Institute for Social Research Vijay Prashad about the connections between conflicts and movements in the Global North and Global South under capitalism.
